I don't think Sonic team likes ideas they did not originate, which means ideas that are exclusive to purely Western media (the DIC shows, Archie by extension, Chronicles by plagiarism) and X and the OVA by coincidence.
The IDW and Boom stuff can appear because they are more directly involved, yet even they seem like long shots. Prime notably ended in a way similar to 06, making it likely that Sonic Team was not involved with its development at all and therefore did not originally any ideas regarding the Shatterspaces and would therefore not be inclined towards using those concepts.
Not helping Sally's case is that she and her source material represented something that ST would oppose on principle, a Sonic the Hedgehog that isn't a free spirit, but a servant of government (and a monarchy at that, or at least a principality). With Princess Sally as an authoritative (not necessarily authoritarian tbc) leader of this force.
partial
Also, Penders likely furthered sowered them on using "Foreign" ideas even if they own the IP rights lock stock and barrel. If anything owning them would just give the right to patent troll use of these concepts and reminders of their existence in proximity of the ideas they had in mind for the blue blur.

The last piece of media Sally was in...was the most prominent thing she "first" appeared in.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.![]()
No...the comic came first.
There was a brief period where SEGA was interested in seeing if Sally would work on her own. Thats why Penders was commissioned to make the ill-fated Sally Acorn comic mini-series. The most that ever came from it, that I'm aware of, was a statue for SEGA World Sydney.

Wasn't it also Sega who veto'ed Sally being killed off way back in the day.
They even kept the Archie comics around even as they somewhat rebooted the franchise with Sonic Adventure....which I think was a big mistake on their part.
One Strip! One Strip! What's fucked too is that the Archie Sonic comics started with a perfectly good premise, that they of course couldn't be fucked to maintain: The setting and characters of Sonic SatAM, but the tone and comedy of AoStH. They had FULL REIGN to have the colorful characters we know and root for, opposing Robotnik in full on ecocide mode... but going the route of playing that shit for edgier gags. They were Freedom Fighters, sure, but they felt like they'd be right at home duking it out with the likes of Scratch and Grounder! That was perfect to roll with!
Self-professed Wild Card who thinks cynicism isn't so bad.I do miss the Freedom Fighters, but if they were ever gonna appear it'd be in Forces, and they didn't.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Yeah, Penders wanted to kill off Sally after his mini-series failed. SEGA nixed that.
I don't agree on the tone of the comics going wrong. The goofier comics were, in my opinion, largely forgettable. Penders took it too far in the other direction, but I have no complaints about Flynn's run.
Perhaps ironically, it looks more likely than ever that we may get comic characters in the games. Its just that, if we do, it'd be someone like Whisper, Tangle, Surge and Kit. The Freedom Fighters are long gone.

Sally Acorn originally came from the Stay Sonic book where she was Sonic's friend but not a princess. So they could introduce a version of Sally that isn't a princess if need be.
"May your heart be your guiding key"I also think the Freedom Fighters' main thing was that they were a supporting cast for a character who only seemed to have one friend, and Tails was really sidelined in SATAM and early Archie.
Once we leave the classic era the need for four wacky sidekicks diminishes greatly, because we get a new major character each year.
I honestly believed in that "Tails Doll" garbage when I first played Sonic R as part of "Sonic Gems Collection".
I just remembered that one of the "Sonic Says" segments had Scratch and Grounder drinking alcohol and getting utterly wasted, then many years later Futurama came out, which (aside from the first episode) stated that the robots in that universe REQUIRED alcohol to function.

Due to popular demand,
all physical pre-orders will have a reversible cover that features the Japanese art for the game!
Thanks, nagging!

is this seriously pre-order only? i hate this practice.
...but i suppose this is better than nothing. I LOVE YOU SEGA
"For you, nothing has changed." "Everything has changed, sir." "...Perhaps everything will change again."Folks, 06 is still an Old Shame. Nothing has changed, as 06 already had representation in the original Gens.
However, how embarrasing the game is depends on the region. Sega of America despises the game and mocks it any time they can; Sega of Japan seems to like it well enough, as Silver is the favorite character of many of the developers in the company.
And Sally Acorn hasn't been brought back mostly because she is not a creation of Sega of Japan, but of Sega of America. They own her, yes, but SOJ is apathetic to her.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Sega of America pokes at 06 because they poke at Sonic in general now. That's been the online vibe for awhile now, taking part in the memes themselves. I think it is vastly oversimplifying it to say that they "hate 06." They recognize it for what it it, for what we all recognize it as - A bad game with some cool stuff in it.
A theory since Shadow Generations takes place during OG Generations
, Shadow was underwhelmed a bit when he got hit by Infinite’s illusions in forces, since he’s done this song and dance already…retroactively at least.

Because that era of the Sonic Series probably is an Old Shame for Sega, weird though it might be to say out loud. Sega would have you believing that the Classic Sonic that we see in Sonic OVA, Sonic CD, and way later Sonic Mania, was always the specific image of Sonic back then, even though fans would like to point out AoStH and Sonic SatAM as just the quickest way to discredit that notion.
