The vocal half of the show was fucking legendary.
I wanted I'm Here, What I'm Made Of, Live and Learn, and since i brought the Shadow Saga Sonic Universe comic with me, I am All of Me.
And they did ALL OF THEM.
We also got to hear the Knuckles rap and Pumpkin hill. We even got the original version of His World too.
Since we had a sold out show, they did the final final song as an acoustic cover of One Way Dream too.
There was so much energy, I lost my voice — so much hype.
Funny thing happened, after one of the orchestra songs ended, one kid yelled out "i hate sonic!" which got a pretty big laugh from the crowd.
Oh, and the accompanying video for I am...All of me... had shot of Maria and shadow running from GUN, and was about to be shot
The crowd popped

I'm gonna have to be frank; at first I laughed at the prospect of Sonic fans cheering at Maria's demise in a theatric setting but after reading that anecdote about it for the Symphony... yeah I think I'm just gonna nix any plans of attending a show. And catching Sonic 3 on opening night, because that just sounds insufferable.
Maybe it's just me but I don't find the idea of a little girl getting shot to death much of a celebratory thing, no matter the context.
Certified, self-appointed Sonic VisionaryShot in the dark, but did anybody here watch a flash animation series called "Sonic Syythe World" when they were younger? It was a series about some ice-powered hedgehog named Scyythe who was sinking continents, and a team of hedgehogs who went to stop him, finding themselves in Antarctica and finding mysterious symbols that gave them stronger abilities.
It is a low-quality Sonic OC-filled mess but it makes me nostalgic. It used a bunch of sprites from Final Fantasy as generic monsters/bosses. Apparently there was some forum called Sonic Turbine based around it, but I think they kicked the creator of the series out and became something toxic/non-Sonic focused.
Then there was Sonic Quest for Power. Pretty much the non-problematic Super Mario Bros Z before Super Mario Bros Z - the animation used way too strobe effects, had a soundtrack made up of well likely not license-free but easily pirated video game music, and was a crossover with the Megaman games instead of the Mario games.
Then Arnas (the guy who made Sonic Syythe World) made another series called Sonic Cosmic Dimensions that was connected to Syythe World in Broad Strokes. This one was about some hedgehog called Exodus who, like Syythe, was assimilating/destroying parts of the world - then it got weird and space heroes and towns full of heroic hedgehogs started showing up to stop them.

I've been watching this, and I had no idea that the fanmade project to fix everything that was wrong with Sonic 06 had gotten so far along, and fixed a ton of gameplay problems!
The character momentum was very much fixed, there are choices to swap gameplay mechanics for their equivalents from other Sonic games, and a lot was changed. For example, Tails can now target enemies to throw his "dummy rings" at them. Levels were modified to sometimes make more sense and flow better. Rogue's key hunting level now has a radar and randomization to make it play more like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2! And Silver was totally overhauled in a really big way.
Just check it out. It's pretty interesting.

I'll be honest, I didn't play enough 2006 for any of the changes made in P-06 or the other 2006 "fixes" to stand out to me. Other than certain characters being in different levels. Stuff like Sonic carrying Elise through Tropical Jungle, that looks different. That Wave Ocean level with Shadow blowing up rock formations is neat.
Like yeah, watching that video they're deliberately pointed out, but there've been random showcases of P-06 like Sonic Overtime's
I'm sitting there going "...neat? I can only assume this runs better?
I'd really have to sit down with 2006 again to appreciate the QOL improvements and it's been years.
Good for people who care about the nuances I'm not picking up on I guess. It's cool that the Sonic fanbase is so driven to fix the game but like... guys, the game was just rushed. It's always going to have that stigma. Mods are only polishing the turd of the base game.
I'd like to see the people putting all this work/time into the modding scene genuinely apply to actual studios and become lead programmers. Fans are making stuff that rivals the actual games themselves - Ian Flynn and Christian Whitehead are the only two I've heard of turning it into a career.
I love Sonic Frontiers, but these both rival and exceed it in some capacity. Imagine that but official.

Also, not gonna lie, the only fan made Sonic games I've played were some of the RP Gs like Sonic RPG and Sonic Wave Warrior EXE and I think I actually prefer those. I don't know why, perhaps it's the stories, but every single time I look at the majority of the platformer fan games they just don't seem that interesting.
The Sonic Boom one though... Holy shit, just thinking about it haunts me. If you thought TFH and Superstars had steep difficulty spikes, you've seen nothing yet. That fan game looks like it was made with the intention to just piss off anyone who dares to play it. I'm so glad that's not the Sonic Boom I ended up playing.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!While most don't get hired on or contracted by SEGA, that doesn't diminish the quality of the fan projects. 16-Bit Triple Trouble was incredibly well done. Ring Racers is a genuinely good kart racer. Sonic Robo Blast 2 is fantastic. I don't really get into fangames and I can pull those out of my hat.

The last version of Sonic Robo Blast 2 I played it was when Egg Rock Zone was still new.
I remember being kind of salty because my favorite multiplayer map, Sapphire Falls Zone, had been changed to a Green Hill aesthetic. In the process, losing its genuinely fantastic remix of Sunset Park Zone from Sonic Triple Trouble. But obviously, outweighed by the plethora of new shit added. (Actually watched a playthrough of a more recent build recently, and a LOT of music has changed. Why!? The music is already good, stop tweaking that! )
...I still liked Mystic Realm better then the main fangame, though.

I tried Project 06's latest version, and the Sonic and the Secret Rings remake.
Both caused my computer to experience the same thing: a black screen, and inability to do anything. Alt-tab, Ctrl-alt-del, nothing worked.
I don't have a wimpy machine. I can handle games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales just fine. But both those Sonic fan games froze my computer. Wtf.

there is a clear difference here. Spider man is a game created by professionals. The fan games are by definition "amateur" passion projects from smaller groups.
That isn't to throw shade on either devs, moreso pointing out that there is a higher risk of computer-bricking game breaking bugs with fan games in general.

I'm really curious about Generations' Shadow story and any potential expansion of Sonic's!
The Protomen enhanced my life.
