Continuity isn't canon...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. We had this conversation about Classic Sonic in Forces a couple months ago. I'm just gonna look up and copypaste what I said back then.
It wasn't something made by the English dub in this case, both sides were being weird about what Classic Sonic was supposed to be and fans on both sides were confused and annoyed by it.
Oh! You're that Sonic from another dimension, aren't you!
Right, right, right, that makes sense, I think. Do you know how you got here?
Maybe the power that Eggman is using is somehow affecting other dimensions.
And here's what he says in Japanese, with a really direct translation that isn't trying to sound natural.
You're... You're another world's Sonic! ...Right?
Whaaat, so that's how it is... But, huh? How did [you come] here?
Perhaps, that mysterious power of Eggman's is making the dimensional boundaries strange...?
Take it as you will. But also it should be remembered that Forces has a weird double localization thing going on where it was written in Japanese first, rewritten and animated in English, and then rewritten in Japanese again for the Japanese version. So these English lines aren't translated from the Japanese lines, the Japanese lines were translated from the English lines which were translated and rewritten from the first Japanese script that we don't publicly have access to to know what exactly it said originally.

Are you talking about the leaks about the trailer before Summer Game Fest or the general presence of Sonic x Shadow? Cause Sonic X Shadow was announced back at January Play Station State of Play
It's Sonic's equivalent to Mario's "Bowser's Fury"...
A short extra campaign attached to a mostly untouched port.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Pretty extensive interview with VGC and Iizuka
Some key points:
- No, there is no Chao Garden in Sonadow Generations - I jumped the gun on that, but Iizuka is saying that they are considering on bringing it back since they hear it and everybody wants it
- There's no 3DS gameplay (he was asked about levels so I'm going to take this as a no 3DS levels)
- Shadow takes a gun because he is resourceful, but Shadow is also extremely powerful on his own - he is a weapon. Basically - no guns in Shadow Generations.
- The game is developed in Japan by Sonic Team, and one of the original designers of the game, Katsuyuki Shigihara is directing the game. A bunch of old staff who worked on the original are back for this game too.
- Despite Superstars' reception, Iizuka found it fun to work with Arzest and Oshima and want to try working on something else in the future
I am really skeptical of a sequel to Superstars being made by Arzest, if that's on the cards. Though to be fair, I don't know if their horrible track record is their fault or bad luck since Balan Wonderworld was rushed out the door and Superstars was developed in like two years and it clearly shows in the final product. I hope that Sega at least gives Arzest more time if they do and Arzest gives it more focus and polish. I really, really wanted to like Superstars but I hated it.

Once Upon A Time.Arzest/Artoon is known for making middling games at best, with the music probably being their biggest point of contention but also far too many Fake Difficulty moments.
The Protomen enhanced my life.So I played through Superstars as Sonic, and my final review is that the boss fights get a ranking of Bad/10, while everything else (and by extension, the entire game) gets a ranking of Videogame/10.
Groundbreaking take, I know.
Your melody still remains in this room and it ringsDo you get an instant game over if you say the word "melon"?
Ahem. I might experiment with Trip, but I'm only borrowing the copy of the game I have, so it depends on how much more time I can get with it.
Your melody still remains in this room and it ringsNo, but Trip's final boss had a one-hit-kill move that's very hard to dodge.
The Protomen enhanced my life.

Minor, miss-able audio-only references that could be removed from the game entirely and not change the plot. Nice to have, but not essential either.
SEGA doesn't have to follow up on any of them, and then people will be angry because they thought those continuity nods were proof that "canon matters" when it never really did. It's a nasty psychological gambit that elevates nostalgia over the franchise's actual narrative patterns.
It's been the same thing since "Two Worlds" became a thing. Everybody got worked up over it, as if it reduced the storytelling ability of this franchise (while totally accepting Baldy Mcnosehairs as a Sonic-ism and Eggman being reduced to Dr. Doofenschmirtz levels of villainy) when all it really amounted to was Fang, Mighty, Bark, and Classic versions of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Robotnik not appearing in the Modern games which weren't likely to incorporate them anyway.
