Ian Flynn clarified
his own intentions with Sage post-Frontiers; while Sega may do something different with her down the line, his intention is that, while she respects Sonic and understands his bonds of friendship and even envies it, Sonic and co. are still the enemy, she's 100% loyal to Eggman, and she won't hesitate to put them down because they are the enemy and she fight for Eggman quite gleefully.
That’s what I figured they would do: she’s basically Eggman’s new Dragon, and while she’s a Friendly Enemy she’s still an enemy.
I guess he had to clarify that because a lot of people were assuming she would be Eggman’s Token Good Teammate?

Yeah, and she went from red and black colors to blue and white colors when thinking about love and happy things.
The Protomen enhanced my life.![]()
She’s not malicious, but she is consistently hostile on Eggman’s behalf (she’s the one controlling all the enemies and bosses until the finale). She only stops once it becomes evident fighting each other instead of the bigger threat isn’t in Eggman’s best interest any more.
I think it has more to do with
that: that audiences generally aren’t used to evil characters who are capable of things like love and positive relationships, and tend to figure a character showing those things is a sign they’re going to turn good.
I had feeling that might be case, I had the same idea too after I played Frontiers and had an idea of a potential boss encounter with her. She's a friendly enemy who has entertaining boss banter with Sonic, they find each other as worthy opponents, Sonic has fun and goes to stop Eggman after taking her down, no ill will against her, just her dad.

Friendly enemy is exactly what I was hoping for from her. Sonic has more than enough nemesis-turned-besties, but Eggman's had a vacancy for interesting and engaging minions for... basically ever? Like. They were trying to make Orbot and Cubot happen for a while. But Geometric Team Rocket just wasn't landing.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Probably because both of them are a Flat Character duo who exist solely to provide humor, and lack any depth beyond that.
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."I wouldn’t say that. Being geared more for humor doesn’t mean a character is incapable of depth or popularity. Those things come more from characters being used, and the big difference with Sage is that she actually got to do things, emote, and generally interact with other characters outside of Eggman, whereas Orbot and Cubot are emphatically Satellite Characters to Eggman and barely do anything that isn’t riffing on Eggman’s lines or grousing about Eggman’s behavior.
Sonic Boom, which did things like give them their own episode and such, generally got better use out of them iirc.
Yeah, now that I think about it, Satellite Character describes them better.
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."Though honestly, now with Sage in the mix, this could liven up Orbot and Cubot's dynamic a bit.
Really, I'm just interested to see her spend time with Metal Sonic. Like, will she treat him respectfully out of seeing him as a reflection of the real Sonic, which would annoy him?
Would she see him as his own person, and support him to be better than Sonic on his own merits?
Or would he be cautious around him, citing the memory logs of the Metal Overlord incident as a reason to keep him from getting too strong.
There's a lot of angles you can tackle their relationship that would all make sense from where Sage's character has gone already.
Personally, I'd like to see the second option happen.
I would highly enjoy Metal Sonic getting a time to shine.
"That we continue to persist at all is a testament to our faith in one another."I'll be honest, any time I write fun Sonic stuff, instead of Orbot and Cubot, I use Scratch and Grounder, irrespective of the Robotnik I use. Hard for me to beat some of the classic bumbling villainous goons.
Sage will make for a nice contrast, for certain.
Self-professed Wild Card who thinks cynicism isn't so bad.Now that I think about it, perhaps Sage could either fuse with Metal Sonic to make him stronger or the two engage in a Fusion Dance that makes use of both their powers, and melds their personalities into a single volatile package.
"Punishment is not the answer. Punishment is easy. It's lazy. Redemption is hard. Redemption makes you work."-Skulduggery PleasantI know people like their wholesome Egg-Family stuff, but I'm hoping that Sage will instead take Metal Sonic's role entirely so he can go back to doing his own thing.
I never really bought Metal Sonic as anything more than an extension of Eggman's ego, and so I'm waiting for them to let him strike out on his own again.
Metal Sonic's role?
You want her to barely appear...only to get rag-dolled as an elite mook?

And it had a playable Shadow, yeah.
