Wait, Superstars just so happens to be the first 2D Sonic game with no Video-Game Lives, ala what Super Mario Odyssey had done?
This will be great for players new to this style of Sonic game who don't want to tear their hair out trying to get through Labyrinth Zone (or something idk).

"Some people are damaged. Some people are really damaged. And then some people... are broken."No more continues for...redoing...the level that you died on.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. So related subject, someone just added this to Characters.Sonic The Hedgehog One Shot Characters.
- The Bus Came Back: He makes a brief return appearance in Sonic Mania. While the version fought later on is an illusion by Heavy Magician, the one who throws a bomb at the Tornado is the real deal.
They did the same for Bean in their edit and in general insist the Hooligans from the comics are canon.
I'm very skeptical of this claim as Heavy Magician's theme music plays when "Bark", "Bean" and "Nack" appear. The "Bark" that destroys the Tornado is also riding one of Eggman's Badniks (the Armadiloid
), which would only make sense if it was actually Heavy Magician and not someone unrelated to Eggman.

OI man, I finally did it. I gotta say, they did Fang's comeback justice in this game. He's a menace. I love how the giant Mecha Fang shoots you with giant corks lol.
the key with the nets is to stay still when the targeting reticle is on screen, then jump and move forward as they're about to appear. You want to make sure they don't overlap each other. You can mash to get out if you're caught but it's unreliable.

Been playing the game. Enjoying it.
Gotta say, I like that Fang comes with new tricks but he sometimes feels like Metal Sonic.
My major complaint is that they fucked up his theme.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"While I value Flynn's work, he is the source of the trio being the real deal in only the opening of the level in Mania. It's a very shaky Word of Saint Paul (since Flynn had nothing to do with that game), and the game only suggests Heavy Magician is the only character in that level pretending to be the three.
Remember the Encyclo-speed-ia has some wrong statements about other games.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.i see. this is something i learned about from other edits on the related pages. (edit: fang's page specifically.
) i'm admittedly not super deep into the sonic comics, so i was mainly wanting to make sure the pages were consistent in the info presented. is there a consensus on whether to treat the encyclo-speed-ia as canon or not when it comes to stuff like this, or is it just generally Word of Saint Paul?
Edited by NoUsername on Oct 18th 2023 at 6:18:02 AM
There is no real consensus, but I imagine the website treats the information not available anywhere else as valid until something contradicts it.
The bio of Honey the Cat (she has nothing anywhere, only the Speed-ia), the fate of Infinite (who likewise has no information about what happened to him at the end of the game; the names of the Mecha Sonic models (before this, all of them were named the same outside of the Archie comics naming them Silver and Mecha), and the bios of the characters for the most part except King Sharyar and someone else I may be forgetting.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.okay! that's largely what i understood, yeah. in this case mania only really has silent implications to go on, is the main issue. i thought having a textual explanation superceded it, also going by the precedent of the other edit. i'm fine with keeping it like this.
other edits i made were ones in general related to the games pairing the trio up, which is a definite trend i've noticed (as someone who really loves sonic the fighters in particular LOL), but i hope i didn't come across as obsessive over it, so much as documenting info i believed to be notable. sorry for the trouble!
So, raises hands.
Do Superstars adding the Chaos Emeralds giving random powers a Retroactive Idiot Ball from the heroes part? I'm sure their powers could have been useful in, I dunno, Unleashed.
Or we will pretend is like Sonic never using Chaos Control powers despite knowing how to do so? Forgot About His Powers
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Stuff having certain powers, but only in specific situations, isn’t too uncommon for this series.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it was explained as being similar to the Super Emeralds’ thing of “yes, the Emeralds can do this, but only when brought to this place or when this thing is done to them.”
@The Encyclo-speed-ia:
Actually reading those, I’d say that reading “the real Bark and Bean were present alongside the illusions” out of those blurbs is a bit of a reach.
Thet seem to just be two sentence indications of the characters’ latest appearances.
The actual story of the games reveals those to be illusions, but that level of nicety is not what the encyclopedia is trying to explore. That the blurb doesn’t specify “but they turned out to be an illusion,” isn’t at all the same as the encyclopedia outright stating “but they were real, unlike the other illusions” because the encyclopedia isn’t trying to be a plot synopsis.

I know this is a Sonic discussion, but I just found out that Mario Wonder has a 94 on Metacritic. Now I'm not one to take review scores at heart, but with Sonic Superstars still being in the 70s I am quite curious. I mean, I was expecting higher scores than Superstars, but I was thinking it'd be probably in the 80s.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!Mario Wonder being critically acclaimed seemed like a sure bet to me. It's Mario, and not a cookie cutter rehash of the classics but a legit 2D reimagining. The Mario series probably has more mainline entries that are considered masterpieces than not.
Superstars is far more divisive in its reception. Personally, I'm about 2/3rds through a regular playthrough and I'm not feeling it. I'll wait until I'm done for my full thoughts, but even if Superstars was close to Mania level, it was probably going to fall short of Wonder's reception.
Some aspects of the game feel really cheap.
It's sad.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Bosses are definitely the weakest part, IMO. They start off easy, but when they get harder it’s compounded by either them getting extra long invincibility frames or retreating immediately upon getting hit and then taking a long time to drop their guard again. It drags the fight out, making it all the more likely you’ll slip up and making it all the more frustrating when you do because of how much time you lost.
My musician pageYeah, I've especially heard some not so pleasant things about Fang's mech at the end of Trip's story and that it may actually be one of the hardest bosses in not just the Classic games, but the series as a whole. And we just had an update to Frontiers that is already notoriously difficult, especially if you're not playing on Easy. Solaris forbid you do an Extreme run.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!Not enjoying the Metal Sonic boss fight. And not in a "this is too challenging" way, more in a "whose idea was it to make this basically a Luck-Based Mission?" sort of way.

Oh, something I keep forgetting to bring up: the enemy design.
The enemy design in this game is so good. This is some of the most interesting and cool assortment of new badniks the series has ever had. Most of them are new, and even the ones that fill familiar roles tend to have something new to them.
