At least Infinite isn't a Palette Swap of a superior character, IMO.

Also him staying loyal to Robotnik was also unique.

That reminds me, I find it weird how the fandom is always trying to soften Infinite, particularly in insisting he loved his squad (whom he treated poorly in their only interactions).

I feel like we don't get enough of Infinite's character to see if he was actually caring towards his team or not. That's why I'm hoping that SEGA allows his character to be brought back either through the IDW comics or through the games. There's a lot of potential for this character and there's just so much we don't know about this character.

I don't disagree that there's a lot of potential, but only because he's basically a blank canvas. Infinite, at least to me, was just a one note villain.

Yeah, the way he was portrayed in Sonic Forces didn't really add much to his character to me and they tried to make him threatening in that game, but there was just too much missing from his character that I wasn't fully convinced on his villainy.

To be fair, I'm not sure Infinite was meant to be sympathetic in the first place.

Yeah, it's really something when characters like Dr. Starline from the IDW comics had much more characterization going on with his character and a much clearer sense of villainy with his character than Infinite did.

The thing with Knuckles in IH is that he now glides like Spyro; requires planning out how he may handle, rather than turning in a dime.

Or, in other words, that's how you may balance Knuckles to not utterly break Sonic's levels; gliding is supposed to not be easy to handle.

Then again, Knuckles in Adventure 2 is one of the most agile and mobile characters in platformers, but due to that gameplay being in a Sonic game, with a highly vocal "gotta go fast" fandom, that got wasted... tongue

How, all of Knuckles levels are actually original to him and mostly contained.

And vertical.

Infinite is not sympathetic at all, but Amy takes pity on him in a level due how lonely his creation was

It's only a scene of Amy's character; Shadow and the rest of the cast saw him as a menace, Eggman as a nuisance, and Sonic as a loser. The character only has a complex relationship with the avatar, as both are mirror characters.

But on his own, Infinite is junk. I hope he stays dead, because I don't have hope Flynn can fix him.

Mephiles killing Sonic never stuck with me because it has nothing to do with anything else in the game. He just shows up and does it.

Imagine if instead of it being a big event, Doomsday just showed up and killed Superman after a fight with Lex. That's how it feels.

Infinite was apparently supposed to have an Anubis vibe going on but that is so not apparent in the final design. Forces just feels like a mess of ideas that were cool in concept but terrible in execution.

As a Mythology fan, that annoys me, as Anubis is not an evil god; he's a neutral god that takes care of the death, no different from Hades.

Anubis "father", Set, however, is an evil deity; he overthrew the throne by killing Osiris, and was defeated by Horus, the most important god in the pantheon after Ra. But Infinite only has the jackal motiff: scary dude.

At least Infinite would share more common traits with Set, as Set was the god of foreigners and chaos (riots and disorder), and Might Makes Right mindset (as he took over the kingdom by force).

Yeah I don't get Anubis at all from his design, it's hard to tell he's even supposed to be a Jackal. Still a cool design tbh he was just written kinda dumb. His voice is great though. I honestly don't think they should throw him away.

You know I've been playing Lies of P and fought one of the hardest bosses in the game last night which took me at least 2 hours and she STILL wasn't as frustrating as the king coco trial lol.

I do like Infinite's design though. He looks really threatening. I just wish that he was written better as a character.

[up][up] From what I'm reading, it seems Infinite's species was chosen based on Anubis. His design was based on a yokai, " His overall design motif was derived from the Namahage, a demon-like being in Japanese folklore, with focus on key words like "cruel", "clinging to power", and "not believing in bonds." Since Namahages look scary, they also made for a cool and catchy silhouette that Infinite came to possess. "

I didn't know one of Ben Hurst's attempts at convincing Hollywood to greenlight a Sonic SATAM movie was to first get them to greenlight a biopic about a professional fart artist.

There is that line from Sonic at the end of Forces where he's like "we live in the real world, with real friends, not made-up illusions" and it's like "wait, was THAT the message of the game this whole time? Was that supposed to be the takeaway?" because it felt like a really ham-fisted and arbitrary metaphor.

If they really wanted that to be the message of that game, they should have done something with it. Have Classic Sonic be a creation of the Phantom Ruby by Tails, have Infinite re-create the Jackal Squad and delude himself into thinking they're the real originals brought back to life. It felt like that message was stapled on to the end with no planning beforehand.

Frankly Jackal Squad illusions as bosses probably would've been less aggravating than Zavok and Big Metal Sonic.

[up] I can definitely see Infinite being one of those villains - the type who is so desperate regain their former power and prestige that they'll side with anyone who makes them feel like less of a failure.

I kinda had the idea of Infinite lingering on a vengeful spirit and Big Bad Wannabe. and working with Surge and Kit over slightly mutual internists, only for Starline's little legacy to betray the edgelord and use the phantom ruby to become the actual final boss. While Infinite ends up dead as a result.

For bonus points, the Ruby empowered Surge (let's call her Storm Surge) would on a dark violet hue as a nod to a certain other charterer's super form (assuming that isn't already the case), as she proves to be a much better wielder of the Ruby than Infinite.

Honestly I don't get why people dislike Infinite that much. Alot of the other new villains have just been oneshot Kaiju or just recolored Hedgehogs.

He does fit as an Evil Counterpart of the Avatar.

On a similar note, I don't get why so many say the Deadly Six don't fit the art-style of the series.

All the Sonic characters are cartoon-ish characters with rubber-hose limbs, if anything, they fit more than the realistic people and monsters.
