I think I saw that comment on Reddit of how "Amy's tarot cards are meant to make her mundane because that's a girly hobby" crap and I just told them to go to hell with their pretention.
Speaking of Amy, for the longest time I misunderstood the context of Amy's conversation with Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2. I thought that, instead of him sticking with Gerald's plan and being moved by Amy's words to help stop it, he said "It's all going according to plan. There's no reason for me to help them" cause he figured Sonic and company were on track to save the day without him and he was just being lazy.
The Protomen enhanced my life. That's an odd reading, but I'm glad that was cleared up, at least.
I don't think Amy's role in that story was appreciated at the time, by myself and others, since she wasn't playable. Arguably, she influenced the story more than Knuckles did. Really, him shattering the emerald was just to give him something to do and write it out as a plot coupon for a bit. Hell, it wasn't even Rouge's whole day, she just assembled her pieces as a side gig to her day job and double-agenting.
And that's another thing, Rouge herself had an amazing introduction as incredibly capable, and it took me a while to see it, too.
Hmm... in terms of size of contribution to saving the world in Adventure 2, I'd put it at:
- Sonic
- Tails
- Rouge
- Amy
- Knuckles
- Shadow
- Eggman
- GUN
The bottom three are there because they actively contributed to the problem in the first place. And GUN provided no help whatsoever.
Update is live! At least on Switch.

My musician pageI'm playing Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and I love how you play as Luigi and Tails for a lot of the story mode trying to save their brother/best friend, and nothing stands in their way.
The Protomen enhanced my life.On Ouranos Island, if you go to the map, you'll see something that wasn't there before (it's easier to use the shoulder keys to switch through different filters like usual). Somewhere on the island is a new portal to access the content, which comes with its own set of save slots. Its location is right behind where you start the island. Presumably so that someone starting the island for the first time has either option right off the bat.
They gave Amy more card abilities than hammer abilities. That's certainly... a choice. Also, it looks like the DLC is sequential, starting with Amy's story. Given what the trailer showed, and the music, I assume Tails' is second. Also, each character has their own skill tree and levels to increase their skills, like Sonic did in the base game.
I'll actually play through it later on. I'm going to get dinner now.
Also, there are new map challenges, and while some are nice to complete, it looks like the first one I found is one Amy can't do easily, if at all (chase down a midair ball of light while holding X, but it doesn't stay in her range long enough.
Ok, please tell me I am not the only one having really big trouble doing the challenge where you jump through square rings with Amy? Seriously, something about her jump feels very weird, not to mention for some reason I keep failing even though the timer doesn't run out.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!Ok, Amy is downright crazy when it comes to traversal. Normally the biggest weakness of her glide is it's somewhat slow (at least, that's how it feels sometimes), however after purchasing the Spin Dash in the Skill Tree that is no longer an issue. Just use the Spindash, press jump 3 times, and watch her fly. My lord, just imagine if they weren't limited to just Ouranos Island (assuming that's the case), the rails connecting the islands on Chaos Island wouldn't even be necessary.

No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!I wonder if we'll start seeing Amy's tarot card powers in the IDW comics soon?
One Strip! One Strip!Oof. Apparently they were spoiling us with Amy's hops. Traversal with Knuckles is painful.
I still don't know how the game actually intended up me to get up the top of the pyramid in that one mission of his. After about twenty minutes of trying to find a way up, I ended up having to cheat, Genshin Impact style: I noticed a distant challenge took me higher than the pyramid, so I did the challenge, went ot the peak and just glided all the way over to the map objective from above rather than figure out the intended traversal.
In addition to the answer already given earlier, as far as I can tell all three characters start directly in front of a challenge they can't actually complete until later.

Ok, so I just got Knuckles and... Sweet Solaris, calling his glide terrible would be a huge understatement, it's downright abysmal. You can barely turn and not even trying to turn around in midair out of the gliding state will help. I have no idea how they messed this up when, floatiness aside, Amy controls just fine in midair. Seriously, I'm not even sure getting his glide upgrade will be worth it, the only times I can see myself using his glide outside of the challenges is when I'm just going in a straight line. You know something went wrong when freaking Amy has an infinitely better glide, especially combined with her Spindash. I was planning on getting all the collectibles in TFH, but I change my mind. I swear, Tails better be fun.

No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!Yeah, Knuckles' traversal is godawful. Not only could I swear his jumps are shorter than everyone else's, but his glide is basically a mid-air superboost, which makes it basically useless for most of the things you'll actually be doing in the air in this game.
Tails is a little better, but he doesn't have a homing attack which a lot of the game's platforming is built around (ironically, Tails ended up being the more combat focused character, possibly unintentionally). Both of them suffer from there being things they just... can't do that the other characters can easily.
Ironically, Amy has the best traversal of the three. A triple jump plus a float will get you anything you want in this game. It's the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 effect all over again: all the fancy flying mechanics you want are no match for a good, simple extra jump.

Amy is good at something?
This is like the opposite of Sonic Adventure.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. For the record, Knuckles first joined the series with a lower jump height, and part of the gliding mechanic was that you had to find a higher point if you wanted to go far with it. I haven't gotten there yet, but from the sound of things they took this too literally?
Tails not having a homing attack is weird. Ever since the attack was first introduced, he has been the next in line to get it after Sonic in the 2D games, when no one else could. Again it seems like they're leaning too much into the Adventure 2 influence for my liking, but I'm hoping I'll have fun with him regardless.

You know, I love how I'd been arguing for Amy to be a definitive Magical Girl (for years, I should add), only for that to be dismissed with an argument along the lines of "Amy's 'niche' is to be the normal, mundane character in the cast. Having her possess actual magic would ruin her".
Now Frontiers is finally having Amy use magic in her movesets, and it's being celebrated!
