I'll disagree just on the grounds of something as characterization, which is the consistent criticism of the show. Canonical facts are whatever, but if Sonic acts weird, people will notice.
And in my case it's less "he's out of character", and more "he's too overt and unsubtle", which is a criticism of writing I have.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.I see Sonic characters like I see TMNT characters. Their personalities are broad enough where different interpretations are inevitable and should be encouraged.
Every writer has their own ideas on how these characters should behave based on the broad traits they have.
Some fans (and I'm specifically gonna call Pariah out on this) see Sonic like series like One Piece, and think it's an ongoing story with an expanding narrative and I'm like "naw".
Even when they tried to have continuity, it was tenuous at best. Because unlike One Piece, Sonic does not, and never did, have one person calling the shots.
One Piece begins and ends with Eichiro Oda, but Sonic ran before Ian Flynn came onboard and it will continue to run after he's gone.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. The problem adapting Sonic to any form of media is there isn't much to work with. From the characters to the lore, everything is as bare-bones as possible. Which works for a bunch of standalone platformers, but it's harder to wring out anything more substantial without changing some things. Different mediums need approaches and they need to expand on what's there, even if that means some characters get altered in the process.
It's also why I give Archie, Fleetway and the rest so much slack because even if they're not the most faithful, they are solid and memorable pieces of media that stand on their own. Canon be damned.

Sonic X, the most canon-faithful adaptation, did absolutely nothing with Sonic's world, leaving everything to Chris's world which was basically "our world, but there is a space station".
They didn't even explain or explore what the hell rings were. Sonic has one, it gives him a boost in power. But what is that ring? Who knows. The Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald get their basic outline but that stupid ring is a fundamental part for Sonic winning the fights against Eggman but it has absolutely no backstory.
And for that matter are Shadow rings the same as that one ring Sonic has?
And for that matter, an episode establishes Chris's world has Chao. Retroactively, does that mean the Ancients travelled to another dimension? When the Metarex stole the life force of a planet, does that mean retroactively Light Gaia was killed for a while?
These questions don't let me sleep at night.

And Sonic Frontiers.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I have no problem with that, such questions are rarely ever answered in a satisfying way.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. One thing that I have found weird is that things from Sonic The Comic have coincidental appeared in the games. It is a case of strange minds thinking alike.
Such as Sonic being lost for six months, the threat of an artificial sun, an ancient Alien race connect to water with advance technology created the Chaos Emeralds and a member of the race transforming into Chaos. A Mobian enhanced by Robotnik's technology serving as a powerful soldier. The construction of a second Death Egg.
"May your heart be your guiding key"
There's nothing that says the ancients created the Chaos Emeralds in the games, only that they came from their planet. For that matter, Chaos is only indicated to be a descendant of the ancients, not one of them.
The way I see it, properly written Superman is meant to be a paragon of how Lawful Good should behave. The ideal of Superman is a great role model, despite his flaws and mistakes.
I like Shadow for the same reasons I like Batman. For all their flaws and psychological issues, their hearts are ultimately in the right place. It is possible to be pragmatic without compromising morality. Sometimes fighting dirty and being ruthless is the best way to protect the innocent.
Shadow’s flaws being his issues with trust (just like Batman) and wrathful disposistion (played up in Prime).
The addage Wrath is the most likely Seven Deadly Sins to be motivated by good intentions is something I came up when noticing a pattern with Person 5 and P 5 Strikers. The wrath dungeon (Strikers is the Temple of Wrath) having the most sympathetic target.
I mean there's a reason Superman is the Big Good of DC and not Batman.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Hard to tell with how much Supes has been underwhelming for years. But yes, he's the Big Good of DC.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Taken on its own Sonic Prime is fine for what it is. Its a more or less harmless action show for kids. I don't like the show, but I recognize that its not doing anything exceptionally wrong.
Its not a great adaptation of game Sonic, but I don't think its trying to be. Sonic the character is skewing far closer to the way he acts in the movies. But even then, this is clearly its own thing.
Personally, the only subplot in the show that I find interesting is the one surrounding Nine. I kinda hate most of the other characters and how they act.

I'm pretty sure that's most creators feelings on the topic...
But the only reason he seems to have said this thing that's pretty much irrelevant sentiment, is because something came up as a result of something he said about Sonic and Shadow.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That and it might have to do with him interacting with a shipping troll. The Twitterbase is dog piling on him for somehow "validating" this troll just for simply replying to them. His five-post thread details his position on shipping and that he's not going out of his way to vet every single Twitter account he wants to respond to.
Certified, self-appointed Sonic VisionaryThe troll in question is a blatant homophobe that attacks anyone for shipping Whisper and Tangle, this after Flynn had stated that Whisper and Tangle are not an Official Couple (on pride month no less) and people have the right to be nonplussed.

I don't think people understand how creatively stifling it is to adhere to every single canonical fact about the series for the sake of brand recognition.
Like I get it, products like Archie, SATAM, and STC veered too far away from the games and it contradicts what people know, but those products very much have their own identity even if its not aligned with the games.
I generally prefer most Sonic products to do their own thing as opposed slavishly adhering to canon, fanbase be damned.
