The update appears to completely rewrite the last act of the game. If you felt the third act of Frontiers was underwhelming, well, the staff attempts to fix that.

At the time, there were people who thought that Sage would alter Eggman's character to make him a good person. It took Ian Flynn to say in the BK that no, if anything it will make him worse. He's just making sure the intent is clear with the update.
It reminds me a bit of a plot thread from Arkham City. In the background, it is suggested Harley was pregnant with Joker's baby, only for the DLC to shut down this idea with her pregnancy being a false positive.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Well it could be worse. It could be terrible screen crunch on top of slowdown so bad is makes 06 look playable in comparison. Am I right? Sonic Genesis GBA? Still, when your screencrunch is so bad it makes the very 1st boss in a game a contender for one of, if not the absolute, hardest boss in the series that's nothing to be proud of. Oh, and let's not forget one of the most "amusing" ways you can die to a boss. Pressing down!

No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!RE: Shadow rerailment:
In this case, its closer to an amalgam of 06 and Battle. Aggressive, short tempered but perceptive and likely the first to figure out the big picture.
Also trending towards bringing back the 06 Type 2.5 Anti-Hero.
I sure hope that's the case. Him being aggressive, short tempered but also perceptive and most likely to see the big picture does sound like a happy medium between the alleged "Vegeta clone" persona and the fan-favorite 06 persona. Now if only we can somehow sneak Ian Hanlin as Shadow in the games because he kinda runs circles over Kirk Thorton if I'm honest. (Probably not feasible, but let me dream.)
To be fair, I saw signs of what magnum12 is suggesting in the first season, when Shadow tries to warn Sonic about fighting Eggman (seeing the big picture) and when he whales on him at the last episode (aggressive), but yeah, let's stand by before making any overacting reaction vids on social media.
The blaster from Sonic Battle, the Cyclone from Adventure 2, and the fact that he carried a piece in the Sonic 2 movie makes me think he's more adept at firearms anyway.
How often has he had the dummy rings anyway? I recall him having them in Sonic Heroes and Sonic 06.
All in all, no complaints on the different gameplay methods for the three characters in Update 3. And brownie points for using Update 3 as an AST!
Speaking of the Cyclone, on a different subject, I wonder how long it'll take until we see LEGO MOCs of it now that LEGO Tails is a thing.

Shadow being a Hero Antagonist in Sonic Battle was because he was the first to see the true threat Emerl really was. ie “lots of innocent people are going to die if I don’t shut this down NOW”.
I like how the Prime season two trailer kept Shadow’s being tendencies from 06 of being very helpful when you do reason with him.
Examples: guiding Silver to the truth, being a reliable source of intel, trying to work with Emeril when he wanted to escape his fate of being an agent of death and destruction.
Tails also shows a scientific interest in fire arms during Shadow the Hedgehog. His view on guns is one of pragmatic necessity given his line of work.
I'm ngl, I get why, but it really annoys me how 06 is "the gold standard" for Shadow characterization. Because it literally means every version will be compared to a 15 year old game that most people probably haven't played at this point.
It reminds how annoying Spider-Man fans are when they say "Tobey Maquire is the gold standard of Peter Parker" and I'm like "Shut the fuck up...."
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does."Gold standards" mean nothing in long franchises, other than kneekack reactions. Pander to this view and you get a nothing arc like in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, where "hey, remember Super Saiyan 2?" is the name of the game.
Especially when, as mentioned, Tobey's characterization clashes heavily with what the source material by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee wrote. Tobey is his own thing.
Regarding Shadow - why is the game where everyone is out of character the gold standard for the character? Maybe he too was out of character in it, and people just pretended it wasn't.
Anyway, I've enjoyed Sonic Prime for what it is, so I hope Shadow is fine in the second season.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.In people's defense, 06 was the last time Shadow, actual Shadow, had major story prominence and had a story arc. He was basically a cameo in Generations, Boom was a divorced from the main series, and doesnt show up in Forces until the game is half over....and its also Forces. The only other games would be Shadow the hedgehog, which by its very nature means its characterization goes all over, or the Adventure games where he was supposed to die originally.
I feel like everyone is so used to Shadow being a major character any time he shows up, it feels weird when he's mostly just a supporting character nowadays.
So I guess it makes 06 is held to such a standard because it's last time Shadow was a Deuteragonist.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.06 Shadow is also one of the few games prior to the change in style that happened in Unleashed to Colours where Shadow has finished his 3 game arc that concluded with him leaving his past behind, and the game as a whole was co-written by Shadow's original creator as well.
So it serves as a peek into what kind of stories you could still tell with Shadow after his arc.
Of all the problems with 06, I don't see OOC-ness as one of them. Sonic isn't out-of-character there either, it's just that his part of the story is the least interesting.
I'm watching some match video for the newest Mortal Kombat game (bet you never thought I'd mention that game in this thread
). Anyway, there's a mirror match dialogue between two Kenshis that made think of this idea for two Silvers meeting due to time travel shenanigans.
Silver 1: If you meet a named Mephilles, kill him.
Silver 2: Why? Who is he?
Silver 1: Oh, now you ask questions.
Sonic isn't out of character in Nex Gen...he's just boring.
His story in that game is no different that the Sonic X episode with the handicap girl who marries Chris in the future after...10 years, but according to the spatial disparity between the 2 worlds only 6 months have passed in Sonic's world after the end of the 2nd season and for some reason this means Chris was de-aged by 10 years and he left his wife behind.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.So... I just got the Spindash (Really easy by the way, apparently switching to Easy Mode makes those missions easier) and... Sweet Solaris, this thing is busted as heck. In fact, in made me flashback to Lost World (It's been a while since I played it, so before I got the Spin Dash my memory was hazy) and then I realized this is basically a combination of that games's Spindash, the Adventure Spindash, the Drop Dash, and the boost all in one. It's much faster than the boost, especially in 2D, it's spammable, you can use it in midair, and you can stay in it as long as you want as long as you have boost.
I'm doing the Cyber Space rush mode and I beat 1-2 by at least 13 seconds. Not only that, I died at one point on 1-4, and I still got the S Rank by at least 35 seconds. Remember when I said getting all those S Ranks better be worth it (Although it turned out to be very easy in the end)? My answer? Absolutely.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!

So I saw the update leaks of the story of Frontiers.
I'm interested.
I will give you a free spoiler: Sage is sassier than in the original game. There is definitely an Author's Saving Throw happening since it clarifies she still wants to help his father conquer the world, so no ambiguity about her "changing Eggman to the side of good". No more spoilers from me.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.
