You know one thing I thought about with Sega being hands off with fan creations like mods and fan games is that it fosters a whole ocean of ideas that either Sonic Team never considered or ideas they envy. Kinda like with Roboblast or the pseudo Chao simulator. What are the chances that fan creations are stifling Sonic Team/Sega from innovating the Sonic franchise?
If there's one thing I learned from the fighting game community, it's that they'll find a way to break the games in ways the developers never considered or intended. I feel like the same thing happens when fan creations come about and captivates the fan base, when the mainline games fail to do so.
I think might've covered this before, but what if Amy's Super design is just the result of avoiding stamping on the toes of fan developers and creators. Or just avoiding the legality of canonizing someone else's idea into the franchise ala Ken Penders.
Certified, self-appointed Sonic VisionaryNo, that's not the reason.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. What else would it be though. Blaming laziness is too easy, I'm genuinely trying to find a reason not to rip on Sega and Sonic Team in this case, even if I'm enjoying the Twitterbase's total deflation from the leaks.
EDIT: There's also to consider when Sega felt obligated to mandate much of Sonic Boom's potential lore during early development. If the Boom series had been a fan project, its quality and outlook would've been different.

Certified, self-appointed Sonic VisionaryWhen in doubt, I always assume Executive Meddling. I’m amazed they were allowed to make a Super Amy at all.

My musician pageThe thing is however, there loopholes in this. A lot of Amy's gameplay in mods is taken from official games like Advance. And really Super Amy just being a brighter version of herself is how many mods do it anyway because.....that is pretty much every official super form besides Sonic.
I don't think fanworks are a good excuse for boycotting creavity since technically some of it wasn't creativity, it was just replicating the games that did put in the effort. You can't be sued for copying if they copied you first (though granted Penders got away it, if largely due to apathy).
Good point, well made.
But...what if we happened to ignore that little factoid in favor of giving Amy something that makes her unique?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I still think they had some leeway to give Amy a good moveset within that.
Like say she kept the 'insta shield' hammer attack, since that's sort of how her hammer attack worked before But holding down and jump gave her the downward slam she had in the Advance games, and up and jump gave her the double jump.
Maybe rather than having 'Drop Dash lite' her running hammer attack was her spin dash alternative, and depending on configuration, and up and jump while standing gave you the hammer jump.
Not to mention other nuances like hammering on springs for extra propulsion, or possibilities like using her attacks to enter Knuckles' routes. Some elements where she can exploit the environment like the other characters.
I dunno, even with that limitation, I think there was plenty they could have done with Amy. Ray and Mighty done okay after all.

I just found out that a few months ago Kishimoto (main director of the Sonic games since Colors) responded to a Tweet asking about the "only male hedgehogs can go super" rule by saying that he's never heard of such a rule and that whether a character can go super or not is dictated by gameplay.
I also saw a link to this thread on the Sonic Retro forum
where people tried to find a source for the supposed rule. It seems the idea originally came from a couple guys on different sites posting info about a Sonic Bible from circa 2010-2011, one of which said he could reveal that detail because Iizuka publicly said it, but no one could find any quote from Iizuka where he supposedly said this. Judging by what people posted there, it seems like the supposed rule was perhaps actually a statement of fact (like "only Sonic, Shadow, and Silver have canonically turned Super so far") taken out of context, or perhaps it was written as a rule like that but was just something for outsiders to look at as a style guide without Sonic Team being involved.
Until you see Sonic wearing pants, you shouldn't jump the gun so soon on that idea.

I wonder if Modern Amy does. XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.@Whowho I feel like giving her direction+jump combos could have worked out, like her down+jump downward slam in Advance and maybe tying her double jump to up+jump, as well as simply having her attacks respond to the actual level layout, like her hammer giving her extra propulsion on springs or letting her break into Knuckles' routes, giving her abilities more depth.
I get there's more limitations with the one button rule but they definitely could have done plenty more with her.
The hammer is ridiculous, but that's kind of why I like it. All the characters' signature abilities are cartoony and ridiculous, so it makes sense Amy improvises with a makeshift one of her own.
Isn't the hammer kinda based on a Tsundere running gag in old anime shows?

Oh yes ther are. There's an Amy mod for Sonic Mania that does far better for her, with whats basically a hammer long jump of sorts. And now that Mania's been fully decompiled we can add Amy to that roster without sacrificing another character.
Are explosions science?
