Usually, writers seem to find writing villains easy. The council are just there... when they aren't absent altogether.
My musician pageNot the biggest surprise, but interview with Iizuka seems to suggests more characters are likely on their way
So...instead of an actual drop dash, when she does it...she runs while swinging her hammer for a few seconds.
It's just a worse version of it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.@randomness4 I mean it's Sonic's trademark move, it's best she have SOME downgrades over it, even if I'd rather she just got a unique signature move of her own (besides a bare bones double jump in Superstars).
Really they had TONS of games to work off of with Amy, even if they didn't want to copy Advance 1. Why is this so derivative?

Here's the entire 4gamer interview with Iizuka if anyone is curious.
Iizuka: Sonic is broadly separated into the Classic and Modern series. Sonic Frontiers is Modern Sonic, and Sonic Superstars is a new game in Classic Sonic.
4Gamer: I see. It's the same Sonic, but it's a different line in the series.
Iizuka: Yeah. Modern Sonic achieved a great evolution with Sonic Frontiers, but Classic Sonic hasn't had much of a step up from being a side-scrolling game. And so, Sonic Superstars as a project started with the idea of giving the Classic series a huge jump up from pixel graphics.
4Gamer: I played a little Sonic Superstars, but I was relieved that the feel of it was just like the old in a good way.
Iizuka: That's right. This a project that aims to keep the touch & feel of the Mega Drive era Sonic while putting the graphics into 3D, so that is the intent. We're adding new elements onto to that base.
4Gamer: Those new elements are the Emerald Powers, right?
Iizuka: Exactly so.
4Gamer: We could use two types of Emerald Powers in the demo, but please tell us the details.
Iizuka: In the Classic series, when Sonic collects 7 Chaos Emeralds he is able to turn into Super Sonic, but there are many players that feel that collecting them all is a pain, and so we decided on a feature were collecting just 1 Emerald will develop a new power.
4Gamer: It's been made more casual.
Iizuka: Yeah. In the version we have presented, you can use the Avatar and Water Emerald Powers. Avatar fills the screen with an endless number of copies of yourself to defeat enemies for you. Water is a power that turns Sonic himself into water, allowing him to do things like climb waterfalls and swim.
4Gamer: It's been announced that there are 4 playable characters this time, but are there differences in the Emerald Powers between characters?
Iizuka: In this case, all characters are the same.
4Gamer: So, it can be thought that the difference between characters are the same as previous games?
Iizuka: That's right. So, while this may not need explaining to longtime players, Sonic is the fastest and can use the Drop Dash. Tails can fly by spinning his tails, and can pick up and carry one ally. Knuckles can glide through the air, and he can stick to and climb up walls. Amy has a hammer, unlike the other three she can attack enemies that would otherwise hurt you to touch using her hammer.
4Gamer: Are there perhaps other playable characters...?
Iizuka: For that, please way until later announcements. (laughs)
4Gamer: This title has only just been announced, so we'll wait eagerly. So then, please tell us about other new elements.
Iizuka: Well then, I'll explain the cooperative multiplayer. Actually, Sonic has never done co-op before, but we've taken the challenge this time.
4Gamer: I've never thought about it before, but I've held the impression that Sonic's gameplay isn't suited for co-op play.
Iizuka: Yeah, it's an action where you run fast, so I don't think it's suited for a game style where you move along with friends as a casual pace, but we went in like "Why don't we just it Sonic style anyway!". We aimed to realize a unique kind of co-op play you can't do in other action games.
4Gamer: Now that you say, it may have just been because what I was playing was a demo, but there wasn't any text saying multiplayer mode or anything.
Iizuka: That's right. It's actually not a dedicated mode. It's the type of style where someone can drop in at any time into a normal game being played alone.
4Gamer: I see. So you can suddenly enter and then suddenly leave.
Iizuka: You can do that as well. We've made it so you can casually try it out. That said, we plan to reveal more info about the 4 player co-op in the future, so please wait another time for more details.
4Gamer: Understood. So then, please tell us about how Sonic Superstars is being developed. To put out a new game in 2023 with the same feel as the Mega Drive era, I feel that would difficult if you didn't have people experienced with the past.
Iizuka: It has been 31 years since the release of the original Sonic. But we have a designer from the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Naoto Ohshima working with us. He's someone very familiar with Classic Sonic, as well someone I've worked with in the past, so he's been very creative and fun working with us.
4Gamer: When I actually played it it felt very natural, like it could always been in 3D.
Iizuka: We aimed for something that even old-time Sonic fans would accept.
4Gamer: It does seem however that it's difficult to value the fans while also adding in new elements.
Iizuka: Yeah, it's a constant challenge to keep what worked in the past while still finding new fun things to add in.
4Gamer: It seems there's much struggle.
Iizuka: Yeah, if we add in something too revolutionary then it becomes Modern Sonic. But as developers we always have the feeling of wanting to challange ourselves with something new... It's the constant struggle.
4Gamer: That said, the people who played Sonic on the Mega Drive are in their 40s by now. If you focus only on that demographic then you shrink the brand, right.
Iizuka: Yeah, it's natural to most value the core fans that have supported us for over 30 years, but we aim for the sort of gameplay that a father and his children could play together.
4Gamer: I see.
Iizuka: Actually, even before the current presentation we've done play-tests where we've given the game to regular people, and the reception from the family demographic has been good.
4Gamer: It would seem like the if core fans and the family demographic played the same game they would have very different impressions.
Iizuka: It's absolutely different. Core fans will excitedly play it without any explanations and cheer at the return of Classic. Kids of course don't even know what a Spin Dash is.
4Gamer: They might just walk forward and see what happens.
Iizuka: Yeah. When we see reactions like that we start to think, maybe we should add a tutorial here.
4Gamer: Sonic even had a movie released in 2022, it seems there are many kids familiar with the series.
Iizuka: If I may say, with the continued releases of things like Sonic Mania and Sonic Origins, Sonic is has spread quite far among children.
4Gamer: That's true, isn't is.
Iizuka: Additionally, thanks to the movies Sonic has spread further in Asia. Sonic Superstars will have a Chinese version at release for instance, I hope his fame will grow further.
4Gamer: I see. And lastly, please give a message to the readers.
Iizuka: Last year, the Modern series was evolved greatly by Sonic Frontiers. And now this time we've made Sonic Superstars with the hope that everyone will give another look at the Classic series. We've even prepared new elements such as Emerald Powers and 4-player co-op, so I wish families will have fun together. There is still information we've yet to reveal, so stay tuned for further news.
4Gamer: Thank you very much.

Wait is another season of Sonic Prime finally up? I've been waiting for a while...
The council were okay. They aren't my favorite incarnation of Eggman and shallow personality wise but they were amusing enough to work within the show. I do like the other characters better yeah.
Also Briar Rose was legit cool.

It's weird that they gave Amy a downgraded Drop dash because not only is it derivative, but...she can already spindash normally.
So it's just worse for the sake of it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.

Its impressive to ruin Eggman of all characters. He's usually the best part of any Sonic product.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.
