I just hate it when he's made into Dumb Muscle. I preferred Knuckles as a Genius Bruiser like in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity when he translated the inscriptions in the Gigan Rocks and even took charge when the group had to go there.
We all have to answer to the call of fate when it beckons us, even if it is not at a moment of our choosing.Knuckles very specific area of expertise just makes him more of a savant than a general genius...
And that's so specific it took them...10+ years to kinda/sorta revisit it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I like it when Knuckles is a less a person who can't think than a person who doesn't think. Like, when he's clearly smart and capable, but so impulsive and quick to leap that he's prone to jumping to conclusions and foolish mistakes.
Unrelated, but I love how even the April Fools game has a fire soundtrack.
I never would've thought "Sonic" and "Noir Synth" would go together so well, but here we are.
Now I kind of want more Sonic Noir content. Like, I dunno, we've had a lot of city stages but the last time we had a city at night was Speed Highway. Give us an Art Deco-inspired stage that takes place by moonlight or something.

10/10 Would play Sonic Noir. Especially if we can have Shadow in there, taking himself way too seriously and speaking exclusively in gritty detective monologues.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Just because Knuckles is clever in one area doesn't make him "a genius" it just means he isn't a complete fool.
Goku is a fighting genius, but is basically the poster child of an Idiot Hero outside of that frame.(flanderization aside, but we won't get into that).
That's kind of how I view Knuckles: He probably knows some specific knowledge and is of course, good at hitting things. But outside of that, tends to have very poor decision making skills.

I like that way of putting it. He can think through problems, but that's Plan B. Plan A is Punch.
I just can't fathom how could you call someone who killed 80% of his army off a plan that was thought up in two seconds, anything resembling smart.
That's the exact opposite of what a smart person would do.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. There's logic there...
And logic is the one thing you want from a leader.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. There are different kinds of "smart". Knux's critical thinking skills leave something to be desired and he has poor impulse control. He is, however, well-educated in the study of ancient cultures. Which makes sense given the particular nature of his life's mission.
- Knuckles is incredibly gullible and likes to punch first, ask questions later.
- Knuckles knows a lot about archaeology, especially as it pertains to the ancient languages and cultures of Angel Island.
These two statements do not contradict each other.

The latter just isn't very relevant all that often to matter so he just defaults to the former, which doesn't exactly help the perception that he's a meathead.
The writers really don't play to his strengths as a character very often and mostly play up his weaknesses and shortcomings.
Which makes Frontiers stand out as one of the few times they don't do that.
I would say just play on Knuckles' strengths as opposed to playing up his weaknesses.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Given the ever-presence of the Chaos Emeralds and how they relate to Angel Island and the Master Emerald, Knuckles could easily find a niche as the obscure Emerald lore guy when he's not needed to be the ancient culture lore guy.
With Shadow's arrival, they started to introduce the idea that there's more to these Emeralds than what we know and that we've barely scratched the surface of what the Emeralds are truly capable of. But that never got followed up on, so that plot point fizzled out into "Shadow just knows some unique Chaos tricks because fuck you, that's why."
It's no coincidence that Frontiers, the game that let Knux shine in his field of expertise, features both ancient Angel Island culture lore and obscure Emerald lore.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.And the funny part is that Knuckles has very little to do with that stuff.
Its like once the series stopped focusing on ancient cultures or the mystery of the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald, Knuckles just defaulted to generic strong but dumb guy....
Oh hey, that happened to MCU!Thor and Drax too once the asgardian stuff and got dropped.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. What's ironic is that there was a game where the Emeralds were pretty much the plot themselves for the most part, but Knuckles was nowhere to be seen. Then again, from what I've heard apparently Knuckles and Shadow were originally supposed to appear in Unleashed. Not that I actually care, love that game either way (Well, the HD version anyways), just something I thought I'd point out.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!

And this short from the second movie.
So hey, they got that aspect of his character down at least.
