They both hate Eggman...it just makes sense doesn't it?
...no. There's not enough interaction in either game for that.
Outside of the fact that he's lived on the island his whole life, a lot of those traps are more mechanically involved than simple ingenuity.
Eggman obviously helped him...because they don't make sense being on the island naturally or they only work in the zones he uses them.
One of those traps is literally just turning off the lights.

Being reminded of this so much honestly makes me realize how little Knuckles shows up to deter Sonic.
And that only 2 of his traps are actually effective, destroying the bridge and pushing a giant boulder.

"What's your plan to eliminate Sonic, Knuckles?"
"That all?"
"It's a big rock."
...
I didn't say him having traps didn't make sense, I said that most of the traps only exist because they only relate to whatever Eggman's built in the level.
Like, turning out the lights in Carnival Night or activating one of those fans...that doesn't naturally exist on the Island. A lever that activates a huge gust of wind in Mushroom Hill to perfectly correlate with Eggman's weather machine. And Knuckles using 2 separate switches to destroy bridges that seem like pre-existing parts of the island.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I never actually considered that Eggman built those traps for Knuckles to use.
Not that I think he's (much of) an idiot, but using traps and indirect methods never struck me as fitting for Knuckles, even back in the Classic era.
His entire design screams "bruiser", so why isn't he scrappin... granted, when it comes time for the boss fight, he's a pushover so maybe that's why :P
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does....
Of all the characters in this series, that saying would apply to Knuckles the least.

was released. Amy is apparently a speedrunners' character.
Knuckles would work harder because it's the principle of the thing.
Shadow would also work harder. Out of spite. Because screw you. You're not the boss of him.
Which is why neither of them are the hero. Sonic is. And Sonic! ...Would work harder just to see if he could.
Tails over here facepalming at all three of them.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Knuckles would try and fail a lot, but would be trying out of dogged determination.
Sonic would keep going because he just finds the whole thing fun and entertaining.
Shadow would blow it up and call it a day because he doesn't have time for BS.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.It might be that Sonic The Comic's Knuckles influencing my view of game Knuckles.
Since he defeated the Stone Guardian guarding the Pyramid by luring it in to quicksand where as Sonic just attacked it. Knuckles was tricked by Robotnik into letting him get to the Chaos Emeralds, however he did have an insurance policy incase Robotnik betrayed him. Using the Grey Emerald that Knuckles had said was lost to remove the Chaos Emeralds power from Robotnik.

"May your heart be your guiding key"So basically back when comic authors had way more leeway with the series when things weren't as firmly established yet.
Needless to say, critical thinking and foresight aren't really skills Knuckles has in his modern interpretations.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I generally see Knuckles as the kind of guy who would be calmly involved in a planning process, listens to the plan, helps the other with plans, maybe even offers the occasional insight...
And then the moment he sees something else he wants to do he completely forgoes the plan and barrels straight into it, no matter whether or not it's a good idea, generally leading to disaster.
That's the gag of his I remember most from Adventure 2.

Had this series actually had any sense of long form storytelling or at least any consistent path for its character arcs...Frontiers was honestly was the perfect point for that development.
