She has "one" back spike, it works.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I wasn't talking about her head...
I was talking about her back, she has one on her back...which Modern Amy doesn't have.

Also, for obvious reasons...Amy turns into a ball when jumping, so that hammer spinning animation is just her version of the Insta-shield.
Probably how she gets rid of spikes too, if she can't just hammer them.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. They are semi-canon. If Sonic Tripe Trouble can introduce Fang the Sniper and make him return in Sonic Mania. Then it is semi-canon.
It does appear that Amy's a defensive oriented character, which makes sense given that Sonic/Ray have the speed, and Tails/Knuckles with the exploration. Her being that alongside Mighty nicely rounds out the triangle of character types in Classic Sonic.
I do selfishly want her added to Mania; with Ray and Mighty getting patched into Origins to boot.

Metal being a hidden unlockable in Origins Plus would be a nice surprise, especially given its his and Amy's 30th anniversary this year.
Something I just realized is that the reversible Genesis cover has all four characters holding what they debuted on: Sonic with the Genesis, Tails with the Game Gear (as Sonic 2 GG came out earlier than the home version), Amy with a CD, and Knuckles with the lock on cartridge combo of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

That feel when Amy makes Sonic 1 laughably easy because she can get rid of the spikes.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.
