I actually really like the idea they went for in 06 of Elise having a love where whether it's unrequited or not is intentionally up to player interpretation.
It's just that the execution is flawed, in part due to the game's rushed development, and in part because they only reason they could come up with to have Sonic and Elise spending time together is getting Elise captured, due to just how much of a non-action character she is (and, presumably, not wanting to make almost every level one where Sonic carries Elise).
Sega is really not good at utilizing those "hub worlds" in the narrative...
Had they created an actual world, Sonic's story would've been lowkey...him and Elise would've just did things around Soleanna and Sonic would've just been keeping her safe from Eggman like Sand Oasis and Tropical Jungle.
At best she should've only been kidnapped twice...once in Sonic's story and once in Silver's for that Amy scene.
And again for the climax.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Vector could be a hyrbid of Kaito and Yagami, where his fighting style is more like Kaito's brutal physicality with Tank and Brawler, exploring the streets of...Central City(?) and is essentially kinda the face of the agency, going out and visiting each client and case while also being confronted by various thugs and neerdowells. He can also take out Vanilla the Rabbit on dates (it's okay though, most romances in LAD are non-canon anyways, so Sega won't have a problem with it).
Espio could be used during the tailing missions or segment, as he is the Ninja of the group. He can also be the fragile speedster, where he can use Yagami's crane style, mixed with Majima's Mad Dog style (cause knife and kunai).
Charmy can partake in drone segments or the drone races, along with playing the minigames.
I really like aspects of this, like how Vector and Espio can have varying combat styles, Espio doing the tailing missions, and Charmy being the one who does the minigames (even moreso if it's stuff from LAD 7 like kart-racing and staying awake while watching a movie).
My quibble is that I was envisioning that these guys stay together since they keep splitting up in the sports spin-offs. That's kinda why I kept fixating on it being similar to LAD 7. But then, maybe there's a way to marry the two angles.
Like, Vector can still have the brawler combat style and Espio having the agile combat style and Charmy being the de facto character for minigames, but they interact with the open world of Central City (and other locales?) as a unit.
Anyway, you guys know how Sega teased we'd be getting DLC updates for Sonic Frontiers?
Eagle eyed folks in the inter-webs have been noticing updates in Steam
and the Xbox Store
that seem to indicate we might be learning more about them sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to break them up either unless specifically for story mission purposes. Or like you said, have the other two Chaotix members follow behind who is leading or is the focus of the mission. Maybe some sort of merger between Sonic Heroes and Yakuza 0's switching of protagonists per chapters or the Yakuza "change protag at home base" kinda deal while having your companions follow you.
Also I can imagine like Charmy doing the same "Haruka's Requests" kinda deal now too, where Espio or Vector have to do a certain task to keep the hyperactive bee in check.
OOOOOoooooohhhhh baby here we go

I did once know a guy who was 90-something and was super-physically fit. You'd have never guessed he was older than 60 or 70.

Leviticus 19:34You know, I’ve been thinking about what characters that were introduced after Sonic 3 & Knuckles that were actually well received.
The only ones I can think of are Gamma, Shadow, Blaze, and Sage.
Also I kinda wanna see Sage meet Shadow as Shadow is technically Eggman’s uncle.
And also I just realized that Metal Sonic is Sage’s older brother.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Well how are we defining "well received" here? Because nobody except Shadow has really managed to become a Breakout Character.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.

BREAKING: We have our first look at Wave 13 of the Sonic The Hedgehog 4” line by JAKKS Pacific. New characters include Infinite & Cream, along side rereleases of Sonic & Metal Sonic.
It's the second time those two are paired. It's weird, the moment I get a third nickel I'll be scared.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.
