x6 Sonic Team try not to introduce a character and them add them to the "funny cameo character pile" after a single game challenge
So two things:
- Thing 1: Since Rouge is probably going to need a new English VA because her most recent one might get the boot, it just hit me that Michelle Ruff might not be a bad pick if she uses her Fujiko Mine voice on Rouge. (Though it also hits me that having her as both Cream and Rouge would make for a weird case of whiplash, but whatever!)
- Thing 2: Anybody remember those commercials about Sonic and Knuckles with the elves from the North Pole? The other day, I found out that apparently those commercials were directed by Zack Snyder. As in, that Zack Snyder. Pretty crazy how things work out, right?
I was wondering: do you think that we will ever have another Sonic game that's like Sonic the Fighters? It would be nice to have a Sonic fighting game again in recent years.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!So like, Virtua Sonic the Fighting Vipers?
Jokes aside, I'd want to try out a Sonic the Fighters follow-up with the modern cast (Sonic Battle notwithstanding), and the cast is pretty big already that there's plenty of choices. Hell, some of the new IDW original characters like Tangle, Surge, and Kit could provide great movesets in a fighting game context
Sonic Smackdown is likely the closest successor to that (It even has SMBZ Mecha Sonic for Chaos' sake).
So instead of Two Worlds we get Two Different Forms of Entertainment?
Because by god, there is so much empahsis on Green Hill, they sure keep ignoring the ruins that's submerged in lava nearby. Or the giant bridge nearby.
Sonic: Green Hill is my favorite place to be.
Me: You mean South Island, right? Because that's the name of the location. Right? Green Hill is still just an area on South Island right? Because Eggman taking over an alternate Green Hill, a small place on an island suddenly doesn't feel like a big deal after Forces.
Or why would Rouge stay in Green Hill? There was no indication that she lived their during the games.
The less said on Knuckles being there, the better lol
Or even Shadow lol lol
Also WHEN is Prime suppose to take place? It can't be after Frontiers, Prime!Sonic is still more childish. Can't be after Forces, because Green Hill is looking a lot less like Sand Hill. Can't even be before Forces as Shadow has his post Forces personality where he has a chip on his shoulders.
He may be my least liked of the IDW characters, but I could absolutely see Clutch the Opossum hosting an illicit fighting tournament(s) for the Chaos Emeralds. He'd also give a new potentially recurring antagonist who presents a different type of challenge to Sonic and friends. And he'd make a good talking animal villain, and a villain without direct connection to Eggman, which is rare outside of the Zeti. Plus he'd bring back the idea of Eggman selling his badniks to various buyers to fund his operations, which I think was last mentioned in Sonic Battle.
IIRC, part of the reason Sonic the Fighters existed was because they already had the engine up and made from another game (Fighting Vipers, I think?) and it wasn't too much of a hassle to put Sonic characters into it.
The primary way I'd see Sega making a Sonic fighting game nowadays is if it were collaboration with another company. Like a Sega vs Capcom, or if they got Arcsys to make them a Sega fighting game or something.
If SEGA and Capcom cross over again, I'd like to see a Sonic and Mega Man platformer, honestly.
As far as SEGA fighting games goes, the last Virtua Fighter game to come out was VF 5, 17 years ago. But it did get a PS 4/5 remaster 2 years ago
, that was free even, and is currently on sale with Tekken 7 related DLC for $10. The Eternal Champions franchise was killed off decades ago, not that it would be fitting here. Fighting Vipers had a sequel and I think that's it. I'm pretty sure the Mega Ten/Persona universe has some spinoff fighting games, and I think that's pretty much it.

I think Sonic Battle could've easily evolved into something like Power Stone if on a more powerful hardware. Power ups would've come from item boxes like the elemental shields back then, but nowadays, they could also include wisps.
I wonder, does anyone have any suggestions for different stages that could've been used for Generations?
- Console
- Classic Era: Master System through 32X games
- Adventure Era: Saturn through 6th Gen (ending with Shadow the Hedgehog)
- Boost Era: 7th Gen (06 through Colors)
- Handheld
- Classic Era: Game Gear games
- Adventure Era: Advance games, Battle, Pinball Party
- Boost Era: Rush games, Rivals games, Colors
I think a lot about "if they made a new Sonic Generations, what would I want / what should be represented."
For one, I would want them to axe the "the sequence of levels is strictly chronological," because it meant that that Classic-era stages got remanded ot the easy stages. If we get Generations 2, stages should be shuffled around so you're getting some Modern stages early, some Classic stages later, etc. This, plus more bosses in general, to ensure Classic had more bosses outside of the first few levels, and/or to have Modern fight some Classic bosses and Classic fight some Modern bosses.
He probably listed it that way because Generations listed it that way. Generations put 06 in the "Modern" era, mostly because they chose to limit themselves to just three "main line" stages per era, which meant they had one too many from the Adventure era and one too few from the Modern era.
They wouldn't have to do that now (since there's a lot more Modern era games now), but imo they should've had more stages represented per era anyway.

I put 06 where it was in part because of where it is in Generations, and in part because the console placement it was made the divide easier.

You can easily tell which game goes where by glancing at it's wikipedia page, or based on what's around it.
My question was regarding Generations as it was back then. A different Generations game now would of course be very different. Though that does make me wonder, if Cyberspace ported level maps over including their original themes, are there any levels that you all wish had made it that didn't?
In a bit, I'll edit my above post to say which stages I'd have put where.

A lot of the Cyberspace levels are based on areas from older games (IE, there's levels based on bits from Unleashed, bits from Lost World, bits from Adventure 1 and 2, etc), just reskinned with the assets they had access to, so I'd just want them to have those levels visually match.
