I feel the DLC might be playable Amy, Tails and Knuckles in the game as it is now, and the story would be about Sage who may or may not be playable. I'd really like for each of them to get their own story though.
I'm interested in what abilities the other characters would have, and most curious about how Amy might play.

As far as the open zone platforming goes, it's mostly Tails' flight that would make it trivial. But then again, the open zone platforming actually isn't a huge part of the game, since anything you can obtain by it can be obtained easily by fishing or grilling.
...it's weird to think, but platforming isn't a particularly huge part of this game. It's more about story, then about combat, then about freedom.

Those things aren't a problem...
Neither of their abilities can actually skip difficult sections of any level.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I pointed out exactly what you were doing that was hypocritical. I don't know why you're assuming other people must be disingenuous, assuming your stance is the only valid one, or why you continue to keep trying to assign negative states of mind to other people, but I said I was done. Please stop making things personal, and move on.

Anyway
Sonic team has at least two tried and true formulas that places emphasis on using the extended cast in the form of SA 2 and Heroes. They're more than optimal jumpoff points for crafting a Sonic game going beyond the "core" cast. We all know writing in extra characters isn't a hassle.
There's honestly no excuse.
Certified, self-appointed Sonic VisionaryNo attachment whatsoever to the 90's comics and cartoons. First impression on them was, as somebody who played Mega Drive games at a young age, was playing the Advance games when a mate who had those let him, and had gotten Heroes when he first went into the internet, first impression on those were people being aggressively defensive of them, acting with disgust at the notion of "Earth", and, pretty much, being stuck on tie-ins that, well, didn't resemble neither the old videogames nor the current ones at the time. So, no love lost.
Anyway, Frontiers has something that you guys seem to be forgetting:
2.9 million sales as of December 2022. It had already outsold EVERYTHING but the original trilogy, the Adventures, and Generations, and was on par with Unleashed's lifetime sales. In 2 months, it sold TWENTY FIVE TIMES the ammount of Forces' lifetime sales.
So yeah, no need to wax lyrical about "it is getting a 7 out of 10" or that kind of self-defeating stuff. Game was a massive success.

basically, I'd mentioned those same numbers a couple of pages ago, and we collectively had discussed the "Sonic tax" on review scores seemingly being worse than what the actual perception of the game is (I also mentioned the IGN score not even agreeing with itself). Then we wrapped that up and talked about... other stuff.
So, umm... anyone else reading the IDW comics? I'm enjoying them. I got into them from Game Apologist's Sonic Speed Reading series, but I did actually buy the first two volumes for myself. The next volume will be released in a month or two. I wish the volumes weren't so far behind the issues they cover, but it is what it is.
Good: The art is pretty consistently good, it has some fun moments, and it doesn't require too much prior experience with the series.
Bad: Sonic is a naive holier-than-thou idiot but never gets any direct comeuppance because of plot armor, several of the new characters are either expies or originally conceptualized for Archie, and the world is more boring than the state of Ohio.
Why didn't they just continue with the post-reboot Archie characters and storyline? There's a lot more material to work with, and they own it all.

That, and creating a new jumping on point for new readers, as well as being able to sell it as being close to what game fans are already familiar with.

I suspect the lack of Archie elements has likely lays more in Sega/Sonic Team in Japan never being terribly enthused about them, and the Penders lawsuit and departure from Archie giving them an excuse to get the fresh start with core character focus with they had likely wanted for a long time.

I mean, I think I heard that Sega were the ones to veto Sally being killed off.
If I'm wrong, I'd be glad to hear it, but that's a strange decision to make if they were looking for excuses to get rid of the Freedom Fighters.
Hell, they could have let the comic end a long time ago and reboot things around the time of the original Adventure, but they didn't.
One Strip! One Strip!@Borne Again: Yeah, I can see that. The Archie cast got unbelievably bloated as time went by and while it makes for a fleshed out universe, when it's for a franchise named after somebody and a lot of the stories start being about everyone but that somebody, well, Sega would have to draw a line.
Are explosions science? Then they shouldn't have let the Archie series continue as it was for so long.
Like really, when the Adventure series started and the Japanese continuity started having more influence on things, they should have ended the Freedom Fighter era and gotten a fresh start then, instead of making all their mandates to change those versions of the characters to match their game counterparts.
<Shakes head in memory of poor Charmy>
But instead, they failed to keep their house in order, as it often the case with everything they do.
One Strip! One Strip!
