I feel like because a lot of people want to focus on all the negative aspects of this franchise, they keep missing out on some really good content that this franchise has to offer. Like for both the Archie Sonic Comics and the IDW Comics, when not focusing on the controversies that both comics went through, they are for the most part, very well written and they are some of the few times where we can see the Sonic franchise have stories that are much more fleshed out.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Oh absolutely.
To boost the positivity a little bit, Sega talks about Sonic Frontiers' current plans stales satergy

I mean, if you want my perspective the reason people tend to focus more on Sonic's negatives is because the series has yet to truly break out.
The stuff people usually cite as positives are seen as So OK, It's Average outside of the bubble of the fanbase. Frontiers currently sits at a 71 on Metacritic, and the Sonic movies sit at 63% and 69% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you compare that to the likes of Super Mario Odyssey or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then Sonic looks lacking by comparison.
You have to put these things into perspective to understand the contexts.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I'd say it's good all things considered, where it's almost 3 million units sold in the span of two months-ish.
Not to mention the amount of steep competition that released around the same time like God of War, Pokemon, Bayonetta, and Mario + Rabbids.
Granted, I'll acknowledge it's not entirely blockbuster numbers like what Pokemon sold in a few weeks.

The user score is in the 80's, the critic score is 71
And yes, thr critic scores do matter for a consensus outside of the scope of Sonic fans (Who are already predisposed to liking Sonic anyway)
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. It's still higher than Sonic Forces you know, and the fact the execs seem pleased with sales show they may have found a way, and even so, most non-fans I've seen say positive things about Sonic Frontiers.
"Cynicism is not realistic and tough. It's unrealistic and kind of cowardly because it means you don't have to try."Its only 14 points higher, which isn't really a lot considering its still in the average range.
It is improvement but its not like it's a huge jump in quality either.
It is selling well though, so that's a positive. But remember that the devs said they were specifically aiming for higher review scores and they didn't really manage that. So take that as what you will.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I don't see how critic scores matter at all. That just means some people who are paid to play video games didn't like it so much. The user score is representative of anyone who felt like entering a score for the game into the site, regardless of if they're a hardcore Sonic fan or not, just so long as they're not being paid to do it.
User scores do tend to be skewed by a tendency to rate either 10/10 or 0/10, which is a problem. But then, I've long found critic scores useless for anything other than glaring technical problems that were hidden from trailers.
My musician pageThat's really not much of a reason to discount critics beyond personal bias.
But not for nothing, the conversation about game critics always changes depending on how well the game does or not. If it does well, fans will praise the game critics and if it doesn't, suddenly their opinions "don't matter".
This too. User scores are just as unreliable as professional critics due to the nature of review bombing, positively or negatively.
Literally saw people giving Frontiers 10/10'a for no other reason than to inflate the score, even id they didn't even touch the game. How is that more reliable than the "main" critics?

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I think IGN's recent review of the new Harry Potter game sums up the worth of critics: "This game is heavily flawed on a technical and creative level. But it's Harry Potter. 9/10"
Most aren't that blatant, but I have no reason to believe they have more integrity.
My musician pageBasically, either all scores, user or professional, don't matter or they do.
But I'm not really fond of how fans will pick and choose depending on their mood because then the whole conversation is moot.
I don't even really give a fuck about the numbers, I was just using them to make a point about Frontiers.

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I've never cared about critic scores before nor know anyone who did, but I also don't look up user scores on sites like Metacritic either. Although I do always find it says something if the critic and user scores are heavily mismatched.
But trying to figure out how people feel about a video game based on a number is pretty dumb when you get down to it. To be honest, if I want to know what people seem to think of a game I unironically just read 4chan shitposting about it, or look at that Japanese wiki that collects the opinions of 2ch posters.

I mean yeah it is a good time to be a Sonic fan RN.
