Well in Europe, the former monarchies do want to keep their influence and wealth by hedging their historical status.
I have some British friends who call the Royal Family England's most televised family drama.
I think it's a bit different in countries like China where the Emperor lost power to the people who would take leadership but some courtesy is given since the title is a national symbol.
Not an expert though.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"Lore about Frontiers development.
The Ancients were pitched by Sonic Team. Space origins and the Chaos Emeralds, all of that. Flynn proposed them to be relatives to Chaos and the Chao, and this got approved.
Chaos is still a mutant Chao, that wasn't retconned.
The Pinball mini-game came later, although he doesn't remember well. He knows he wrote the lampshade.
Other observations:
He doubts Gerald Robotnik was ever aware of the Ancients or their enemy. He only created the Artificial Chaos based on his studies on Chao.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.It would have, if the series ever actually treated such things with any kind of importance or...longevity.
Like if he didn't want to establish more blatant continuity, it would've just been another story with a one-off species that doesn't come back with vague connections to the Emeralds.
No problem there.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I just hope not every civilization in the world were the Ancients, that would be equally excesive.
The Encyclospeedia suggests that the ruins of South Island were made by the Ancients. Honestly I'm not fond of that, I prefer it to be a random civilization that was destroyed by their greed.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Just a quick mention in the Marble Zone section.
"Relief - An arrow-spitting face. Were these built by Dr. Eggman or the Ancients?"
Of course, it could mean the Ancients from Starfall Island, or the ancient inhabitants of South Island. It could be whatever.
EDIT: Just now I realized the Relief is from Angel Island. Oops, my bad.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Theory: The Black Arms worship The End as a God of Evil.
Would make their MO a sadistic version of sowing death wherever they go.
Cool. Thanks devs.
Well it doesn't matter anyway because I finally 100%'d every island in the game.
EDIT: ...so. That was the boss fight they were hiding from me on normal mode? The bullet hell minigame from Tails' quests?

i'm tired, my friendAmazing. 10/10. Best boss fight in gaming.
Seriously, that's just embarrassing.
And why does "Dear Father" sound like Sage wrote it herself?
i'm tired, my friend

Yeah, but people in Europe are perfectly fine acknowledging the existence of their powerless figureheads.
