"Freedom Fighters" is a pretty common name for a rebel militia, and considering the reach of that version of Robotnik, the parallel is fitting.

My musician pageI want to think Shadow is no longer a GUN agent because nobody wants to associate the most popular character of the series with the CIA, hence why Team Dark just go solo now at days.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.I actually enjoyed the Archie Comics when I was little and that was probably because I grew up watching Sonic Satam as a kid and I really enjoyed that show and I was hoping for some kind of continuation of that series after it was cancelled. Of course, now that I'm older, I realized that there were quite a bit of flaws in that series, especially with the fact that a lot of the earlier stories never got wrapped up neatly.
As for whether or not I want the Freedom Fighters back in the Sonic games, well, at the moment, I think it wouldn't work, because the Sonic games are so different from the comics that putting in the Freedom Fighters at this time wouldn't make any sense. I mean sure, they found a way to make the Freedom Fighters work well in the game universe after the comics had to go through a reboot. But as it stands, Sonic is not really a Freedom Fighter himself in the games.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I watched the SATAM cartoon a bunch. When I found out there were Sonic comics, I was ecstatic. I collected every issue from 38 all the way up to, er, whichever issue it was where Meal Sonic got a personality and tried to kill Sonic, but then ended up sacrificing himself to save Sonic and Tails. It was shortly after the Sonic Adventure adaptation. By that point I just wasn't feeling it anymore, and the Metal Sonic story seemed like a good place to bow out. End on a high note.
I watched SATAM the most out of the other sonic cartoons because it didn't only air early Saturday like Sonic Underground did, and I owned 1 tape of AOSTH with no other way of knowing how to see the rest.
So I got attached to Sally/Sonic and it's been the reason I never viewed Amy's crush on Sonic in a positive light. Nowadays Amy has better character writing BUT Sega will never allow for Sonic to be in a committed relationship, so Sally/Sonic will for me always be the best handled of Sonic's romantic relationships until someone comes along and makes Sonamy work in a cartoon or something.
Sonic/Blaze is the best handled relationship for me by far. No weird drama, just two badasses going from rivals to friends to Ship Tease.
Oissu!Nowadays Amy has had very inconsistent writing.
And she's been without "character", but I'm sure Sonic Prime did her justice.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Oh, Sonic Underground. Okay, so this was back in the days of cable TV. I had something like 38 channels. We kind of got channel 39, but it was in black and white and very staticy. No sound either, just static. BUT, if I hit the mute button, the sound would go off and subtitles would come on. That channel, I forget what it was called, it may have been Teletoon, but it had Sonic Underground go I would watch bits and pieces of it. Because I had n sound the voices I pictured the characters using were better than what I eventually found they sounded like. Funny that the version with all these hindrances allowed it to be better than the show actually was in many ways. Also, I was blown way when Knuckles got a visit from his great grandfather Athair, a character from the comics. It also had an episode where a chaos emerald broke in half and the energy spilling out of it was a massive natural disaster that threatened the planet. I think that train of thought made more sense than when, in the games, Knuckles shattered the Master Emerald twice, and there was no energy dispersal or anything.
Sonic Underground was my favorite of the Sonic snows growing up, but I loved the other two as well. It's kinda funny to think that we've had Sonic Boom and now Sonic Prime; I still get stuck on the 'three cartoons' mindset sometimes.
The Protomen enhanced my life. You know, this might be blasphemous to many various fan circles, but if there was a character in current (game/IDW) canon that could potentially work in joining a modern version of the Freedom Fighters (that was separate from the Restoration) and maybe having a romance with Sally... honestly it might be Shadow.
It would be a cause he could reasonably respect, the perceived weirdness of joining GUN wouldn't be present, the inconsistent rivalry/comparative status with Sonic would be avoided as they'd largely be in separate circles, his personality contrasts interestingly with much of the prominent members, and with some small writing adjustments, he and Sally could reasonably compliment each other. I mean Sega would sooner allow him in an actual romance than Sonic so if there's development possible there, why not? (Granted Shadow ever being allowed that himself has pretty low odds)
The idea is an admitted pipe dream that would be very out of step with how Sega views Archie elements, but if Shadow excels as the hero in his own story, then there might some value to just embracing that and effectively allowing him to have his "Venom in Los Angeles" narrative to Sonic's "Spider-Man in New York" counterpart.

That would cause so much rage and I'm all for it actually lmao.
That said, I can't image Shadow would ever emotionally open himself up like that to just anyone. But it would be interesting to see someone not put up with his own lone wolf bullshit, and yea, people would be comparitvely less upset about than Sonic.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I like the idea too. The downside is probably just that if Sonic Team isn’t willing to let Shadow emotionally connect to the characters he already has, they probably won’t let him do so to new characters either.
Still, I love the concept of Shadow continuing to have covert team side adventures adjacent to Sonic’s shenanigans.
For this month's Sonic Channel picture, we see Eggman, uhhh, materializing(?) some shoes for Sage as a Christmas present...because no way is he letting his perfect daughter creation go around barefoot!
Say it with me: AWWWWWWW!
And cool piece of Sonic lore: They're doing all this in a Cyber Space-created recreation of the Final Egg base from Sonic Adventure.

Archie!Sonic is a completely different individual from Game!Sonic; like 616!Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider Man. They may have similarities but they've led different lives.
But yea, once the games established Sonic as an independent person with no specific ties to anywhere and actvely challenged the military and other kingdoms, the novelty of SATAM was essentially dead in the water. Because now the idea of Sonic serving under anyone is seen as an inherently wrong idea for the character, context be damned.
Its also why introducing the Freedom Fighters into the main universe would effectvely mean their entire history with Sonic would have to change. They would no longer be part of Sonic's supportng cast (since those roles are occupied by Tails, Knuckles, and Amy) but just another group that exists within the world.
And as far as Sally is concerned, you would either have to rewrite her relationship wth Sonic from the ground up, or just say they used to be in a relationship but it fell apart since they both wanted different things.
