Yeah, I don't think I've ever had any strong opinions on who voices Sonic. I might vaguely say that I think Smith's delivery matches the character's personality best, but he's always been pretty well acted.
It's not like, say, Tails where you can point to Colleen o'Shaughnessey as the best VA he's ever had, or Knuckles who's been swinging wildly between good voicing decisions and weird voicing decisions for decades.

As a kid, I thought Ryan Drummond
was the brother of another voice actor, Brian Drummond.
Now you may think, "Just because they have the same last name?" Well, it's not just that. See, there's a group of three brothers, Paul Dobson,
Michel Dobson
& Brian Dobson,
who are all voice actors. Because all three of them became voice actors, I though that if someone became a voice actor, their siblings were also likely to enter into the same profession, and that's what happened with Ryan and Brian.
I've been fine with most of the Sonic voices, but this new guy they've got for Knuckles... I'm just not feeling it. Travis Willingham
was great though.

Apparently I didn't like the English voice acting in TSR, because I distinctly remember changing the voices to Italian despite having no familiarity with the language. Is anyone here familiar with the other dubs, and if so, how do they measure up to the English and Japanese voices?

I think for me, as far as English voices go, my preferences are as follows:
Sonic: Jason Griffith (Though Roger getting better material and direction to work with could tip the scales later down the line)
Tails: Colleen (It's the first voice I felt fits the little brother image he's meant to portray.)
Knuckles: Scott Drier (I feel he did the best job of balancing the lonely warrior and occasional goofball spirit of the character.)
Eggman: Mike Pollock (Does it even need to be said?)
Shadow: Jason Griffith (Kirk's not a bad VA, but he's just not the right fit for Shadow after trying a few different directions for him. Jason's Shadow is timeless)
Amy: Cindy Robinson (Once they started directing her away from the Minnie Mouse sounding inflections she's been killing it in the role)
Rouge: The Prime VA (I've only seen a little bit of her, but so far, she sounds like the best one we've ever gotten for her. Actually has the right amount of smoothness in her inflections and sounds more her age.)
Omega: Jon St. John (Are you...the original? Yes, yes you are.)
Vector: Marc Biagi (They really did just cast this correctly the first time and then never used him again. Keith's pretty good, but I feel like he's being directed to still mimic the 4kids voice a bit.)
Espio: David Wills (The preferable Espio to me is he soft-spoken serious guy who just happens to enjoy his small team of goofballs, and so the 4kids actor handled that the best.)
Charmy: Doesn't matter (It's Charmy, not too hard to do an exciteable kid voice)
Cream: Sarah Wulfeck (Now this is more important, because the wrong type of voice can run the risk of sounding too ear-grating...Not that Cream has had very many voice roles to begin with, but I feel the original balanced the pitch the best.)
Big the Cat: Kyle Hebert (The biggest thing of importance between Kyle and Jon is that Kyle makes Big sounds more respectable and not as stupid as Jon's take did.)
Silver: Pete Capella (Hot take here, but I do think Silver was cast right the first time, really selling that naive but optimistic attitude Silver is known for. I do think Bryce can do a good job in the future, but he needs more time.)
Blaze: Erica Schroeder (Honestly the best argument I can give for this is Black Knight. Erica Lindbeck will definitely grow into the role though given the chance.)
Not really anyone else recurring enough to judge.
Personally my favourite Tails is Kate Higgins. Anyone remember when she all-too-briefly voiced Tails? I think she did great.
Are explosions science?I think the 2010's is the only time Tails has ever sounded good. In hindsight I really don't like any of Tails voice actors between Adventure to Black Knight. And Colleen is just the best one because of both Boom and the movies.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. The Sonic Heroes voice sounded fine...in "Idle Chatter".
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. His worst voice would be...by default...Sonic Underground.
Naturally, even with the default classifier, he just sounds really basic.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The Prime voice actor?
I think he is fine. He is not Pollock, and the way he plays Eggman doesn't make him sound like, say, a gentleman like he was in Sonic X and Boom. You know, Eggman, the funny egg man. If anything, I say he sounds more like a modern Bristow, where Eggman sounds more "threatening".
Btw Yakuzu, I actually found some info on Pariah. He did some rants on the Sonic Reddit a year ago. So here are some "spoilers" to how he will feel about some future titles:
- Sonic Colors: Midly positive. No opinion on the story, presumably negative.
- Generations: positive. No opinion on the story, presumably negative.
- Sonic and the Black Knight: he finds the game to be much worse than Forces. No opinion on the story.
- Sonic Lost World: He considers it much worse than Forces too. No surprise here. He didn't offer an opinion on the story, but I imagine it will be negative. Since Pariah is someone who enjoys mods, I wonder if there are Lost World mods.
- Forces: He finds the game to be mediocre, and he is baffled a part of the community is willing to call it the coming of Satan and be forgiving towards 06. He said the story was garbage.
However, Pariah doesn't play the fandom's game to blame Pontac and Graff for the bad stories. He blames Sonic Team themselves, and told the subreddit to cut them some slack. The stories do suck, but ultimately Sonic Team approved of them. He, however, has called the trend of giving Eggman bumbling lackeys something from "hack-writers". A bit harsh.
So there you go. I'll keep gossiping a bit, for I enjoy his rants.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Yea, I can understand all of that lol.
I liked Colors, Generations is still the GOAT, Lost World.....eeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh, and yea Forces is just painfully mediocre, but I always found it weird how everyone treats it like another 06 when its nowhere near that bad.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I thought Forces had some fun looking set pieces. Especially when Fist Bump plays.
One Strip! One Strip! The way he talks about Amy is kind of amusing to me, because I had a bad experience with an Amy stan. The stan was very defensive of Amy, saying how she should be the new power type of Team Sonic, how she can be Sonic's sidekick like Tails, and yada yada. The stan even went so far to call Flynn "brain-dead" for suggesting otherwise.
The fact Pariah intensely disagrees with the notions, as he feels Amy works better as a "normal person" that contrasts with Sonic.
The fact since Boom Amy has been consistently an action hero character is gonna be funny. It's the Broken Base of the community. I personally like her as an action hero myself, mostly because it's too late to turn her back into the "everywoman" character again.

Forces has the skeleton of a good game, but it just never came together.
Amy is a weird character. Because it constantly feels like she has to live up to a certaim standard otherwise she's not "acceptable".
Ita a similar feeling I have with how they're depicting Peach in the new Mario movie by making her way more competent and making Mario look more ineffectual to highlight that.
Crash 4 kind of does that with Crash and Coco too by making her the latter just as competent and making the former look stupid.
And it's like...I get it. I really do. But the execution of these things left some to be desired.

Isn't that something that can be said for most of the particularly bad Sonic games.
There was probably some potential, but damned if they failed to properly tap it.
At least Frontiers seems to have done well, and now it's a question of whether they can keep this up.
One Strip! One Strip!Forces was particularly frustrating to Adventure fans I think because in some ways its effectively wearing a skin made from the ideas from that time (seemingly serious story, dramatic stakes, even multiple playable characters) and ultimately failing to execute them properly. The one thing more aggravating than a game not to your preferred style is one that co-opts it and proceeds to screw it up.
Its almost like the actual game part of the video game is important or something :V
I kind of see where you're coming from a lot of the time Borne when it comes to your lack of enthusiasm for Sonic stories. I care about Sonic stories, but not to the extent where I feel like they matter more than the game itself.
And I feel like that's a thing where most Adventure fans fall; the story and characters matter more than the gameplay. So Forces is hated, not because the game itself is garbage but because it drops the ball on the narrative. Meanwhile 06 gets praised for it's "potential" because the story has a few decent moments...despite the game being put together like a piece of shit.
Its just one of those things where I'm never going to see eye to eye with the fanbase on. Sonic fanbase is very much a case of Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game and I'm just like "uuugh"
Pokemon has a similar problem within its fanbase where they're more enamored with the lore and world than the games themselves.

It is one of those things where I can understand the importance it holds to some fans even if its not something that I apply to Sonic much of the time. In the cases of franchises like MGS or Zelda narrative is something I have expectations for and have real disappointments when I feel they don't measure up to what I know they're capable of.
With Sonic, because my first exposure to the series was the minimalist Genesis titles, I suspect it built in an unconscious view that Sonic stories were like proverbial desserts, always nice to have when they were good, but not something that necessarily ruined the meal if they were bad.
My first game that got me into the series was Sonic Adventure 2. I loved the plot there and all, but when I played the older titles a few years later with Mega Collection, I couldn't put them down.
Ive always been a gameplay person first since ya know...they're video games. I can appreciate a good plot, especially if its really good, but I need something to engage me.
Its why I've never been particularly fond of how cinematic and less interactive gaming as a whole has been.

I don't think I've ever disliked any of the American voices so I don't have a horse in this race.
