Keep in the mind the Sonic fanbase has been devoted enough to recreate physics engines to put out new classic style games, produce audio dramas based on the Adventure era, make new episodes of an animated series that ended nearly 30 years ago, and are remaking one of the most infamously bad titles into a playable fan release.
Doing some few online votes is nothing.

Its also one of the oldest fanbases of all time. Sure, it may not be as popular as it used to be, but its still an iconic franchise from the 90's. So naturally it has quite a devoted fanbase.
Figures it would take a common cause for the fanbase to ban together like this. I'll take it though, a lot than Classic and Modern fans going at each other's throats for the umpteenth time.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Seems like Genshin has pulled ahead...
Also, the script that enables voting doesn't seem to work with any combination of device and browser I typically use.
My musician pageIf the game awards actually cared about reflecting the popularity, they'd disqualify Genshin for this. But as is, that makes this as meaningful as the rest of the awards anyway, so.
My musician pageBeat Sonic CD. I know this game was developed at the same time as Sonic 2 but was made to retain the first game's level design philosophy. It definitely showed while I played, but at the same time CD really was more fun to play since you didn't feel like the levels were designed to force you to stop running half the time.
I think the special stages are better here than Sonic 1's as well. Special Stage 5 sucked super balls but even still it was designed to reward learning the movement patterns of the UFO's you're trying to hit while managing your speed and time limit. The first game was a pinball course so it felt less like your failure to get emeralds was your fault and more random chance. I also admit that having played Manis first I assumed the special stages would be as hard as that games, but they luckily weren't. Still wouldn't have gotten all the Time Stones without Coins but at least I could get all the Time Stone at all.
With 1 exception bosses suck donkey balls though, and I didn't like how the only way the game could make up for that was Checkpoint Starvation. That being said, I after getting all the Time Stones and no longer needing to slow my pace for ring collection I appreciated the briefness of the rest of the game in addition to the bosses being easy personally.
That one exception to all bosses sucking? The race with Metal Sonic. For it's time it really was the best combination of challenging and fun. I lost a few times before beating him but unlike the Final Boss I enjoyed the losses because I was able to learn from my defeats in a n interesting way. To win, you need to learn the race track basically.
Positives and negatives in mind, I actually do see why people hold up Sonic CD after all these years now that I finally played it.
I'd say there are levels of power to encouragement, and being able to actually give something to voters is an unfair advantage.
My musician pageI mean... there's a reason buying votes is the easiest shorthand for a politician being corrupt across any media.
My musician pageDoes it matter if its a hollow "this video game is well-liked" award though?
I would condemn a politician buying votes because they're in an office/position of great importance. I wouldn't care much if a developer offered free ingame loot/currency for votes. If anything that's smart.
It's a symptom of a community that's already willingly subjected itself to, and is easily exploited for the sake of, artificial currency. People are already shelling out for virtual/digital accessories and "spend $20 more" editions of video games as is.
Heck, publishers send out early "review" copies to Youtubers.

Yuji Naka is arrested..... again
This time for alleged insider trading related to Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier.
When he gets arrested a third time for like.... something FFVII Rebirth related, Mc Donalds will split the intervention into two arrests that can be combined into a larger arrest lol

You underestimate the power of Sonic's fanbase.
