I sure did.
At her worst, she was as bad as Lois Lane in the Silver Age and that's saying something. Her whole sthick was 'SONICSONICSONIC!' with little else to her name. Her obsession with the blue blur was annoying as hell and straight-up unhealthy, and made any prospects of a relationship impossible to take seriously.

I don't have that much knowledge of Silver Age Lois Lane, outside a few.
I remember that one time Lois Lane was the leader of a Superman club of sorts, and tried to put traps to force him to marry her. There is this other story where Lana Lang moves to Metropolis, and then she and Lois do a contest of wacky situations to know who Superman is truly in love with.
Not gonna lie - those were amusing, but I grew with post 80's Lois, which was snarky, sure of herself, and despite being highly smart, she constantly misspelled words. So looking back on those previous versions, I am weirded out.
I did see Amy went through something similar - less wacky marriage proposals, but more like she was too in love with the idea of Sonic being her husband. She had an idealization of the concept. At least future stories would focus more on her caring side and idealism than, you know, wanting to have Sonic hold her hand.
I did like the scenarios with the Kocos in Frontiers.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Amy's changes feel rooted in a few things. Part of is the Western fanbase becoming less interested in the obsessively lovesick characterization she seemed to be at her worst. Some of it might be from Boom Amy generally being well received because of the wider personality the show gave her. Finally, if they are going for broader integration between the games and stuff like the IDW comic, then it makes sense to have Amy's depiction in both be close enough that there's not too much dissonance when comparing.
That's kind of what Adventure was setting as the base of her character to begin with...
It's kind of funny to see people who thought Amy could be better, complain about her being stuck with the personality she had...when she was created with that personality from the start and the series literally had no real narrative back then.
Amy's stagnation came from Sonic Team not knowing what to do with her after Sonic Adventure.
This goes for Tails and Knuckles as well, though unlike her...they weren't flanderized.

Amy Rose in Sonic Frontiers (the game) is just bland, there's not a lot of fire in her. She's got none of the energetic passion and Genki Girl traits that she's suppose to.
Though this could be blamed more on the tone of the game and voice direction.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Given the consistent attempt to keep Frontiers fairly somber, the serious performances do make sense. If there's a more varied tone in the next game and they're giving the same performance it would be odd, but between Boom and now this game, it does demonstrate the likes of Roger and Cindy have range.
I'm sure most people familiar with these actors know they have range, but this is for Sonic fans...of course.
Or just Sonic Boom.

It would be inaccurate to say anyone who had more than just one line only displayed "one emotion"...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. Why are you saying that?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. While I have seen a number of people who've had that opinion...
It wasn't what I said, I said Amy's lack of passion and energy is due to the tone of the game and voice direction.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Part of it is also where in the game she is. She's the first character in the story, and 80% of her screentime is dedicated to exposition about what the hell is going on or establishment for the new setting, whereas a lot of Knuckles and Tails' segments were dedicated to actually doing characterization stuff with them.
So she mostly just flatly reacts to whatever's going on and/or explains things at length to Sonic / the audience.
To rephrase what I said earlier: I liked her characterization in the Takeover and it reminds me a lot of Boom !Amy, and I can also see how her personality in the Takeover is meant to be an offshoot of her current characterization as we see in Frontiers - that is, that if future games intend to actually put Amy into more fun or robust situations we might need to get used to seeing her as akin to the Takeover more often.

Well, I care about Sonic because 1) He was a huge part of my childhood and 2) He's one of the rare video game characters that actually has an interesting personality and a pretty creative concept (blue speedy hedgehog who fights a mad scientist). I was actually planning on making a video about why I love Sonic the Hedgehog sometime down the line.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Mascot with attitude was really interesting...in the 90's.
The only thing that separates Sonic from others in his lane now is that he talks.
More.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I do think they've dialed down Amy's crush on Sonic TOO much.
Amy's a better character when she's open about having a crush on Sonic, when she doesn't see it as a silly or embarrassing thing, but is fully confident in having it be an open desire.
I think Unleashed was overall the sweet spot, despite the lack of her doing much in that story (mostly an optional NPC who keeps up on what Sonic's done throughout the game).
Thinking on it, while Amy's role in unleashed was small, it was still important because it showed that, deep down, Sonic wasn't different on the inside, and the people who loved him still loved him even if he was a monster on the outside, something he was struggling with in the early parts of the game.
Does Big's Achievements in Ignorance in Frontiers mean anything about his power level (IE Inexplicably Awesome) or is it just a case of Rule of Funny? XD

The Protomen enhanced my life.

Amy would do far better as Sonic's manager.
The current set up has Sonic be a good foil for Amy but Amy not really anything to Sonic
