I've seen the complaint before that the design on the second island is lacking compared to the first, but I'm not really feeling that personally. I feel like they did try to do something different here, sort of having it split off into two seperate areas, a desert and a canyon/plateau area (a Wild Canyon, perhaps?) where before Fast Travel its not the easiest thing to travel from the former to the latter. It tries to come up with some different mini-boss ideas, too. Even the Cyberspace levels start taking from other games instead of just cutting chunks straight out of Generations levels (even if they are still using those same skins, and ultimately the elements are still just repurposed from other games. Still, I didn't expect a Radical Highway level, that was pretty cool. Although, not really balanced for Boost mechanics)
There are a few regulars in this thread who speak Japanese. Maybe they've seen some of that discourse.
My musician pageI'm curious what the final boss's speech is like in the Japanese version.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Picked up the cart version of the Switch port of Frontiers. Game came with a medallion/lanyard thingie, the medallion is a ring with a rotating Sonic emblem in the middle.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! The Japanese crowd might be thinking very highly, because over there, Sonic Frontiers just became the fastest-selling mainline Sonic game in a whopping 20 years!
We still winning!

Guess those changes worked ...even though it makes Sage's Image Song montage the more perplexing with how Eggman there treated her just as poorly as his other creations.
I wonder what it was about this one.
I didn't see a cuddly new companion (granted the Koco are more endearing to me than the Wisps), didn't see a new character, didn't see an obvious story thread beyond "Sonic running around a forest." Those were my shallow reasons.
We got a Modern Sonic title that tried something different and got praise for it.
Man hell really has frozen over.
That's another thing about Frontiers I forgot to gush about. I love the freaking Koco. They remind me of the robots from Nier Automata blended with the Nightopians from Nights.

When you say you didn't see a new character, you mean in some sense that doesn't apply to Sage?
What helps is that Frontiers is not really competing with any other platformer or game of its type at the moment, its gotten decently strong marketing for a release on a very dominant system in Japan (the Switch), and given Japan's preference for a more serious Sonic, it was selling itself on just that.

Looks pretty good. Pirate, Prehistoria, and not!SatAM is a nice variety of settings to start with. Pirate Girl Rouge is something I never knew I needed.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."

Does Sonic Generations have a OC port?
