Both the short answer and the long answer are spoilers, but yes, there is an explanation.

They didn't skip anything, they footage was unusable because they lost the audio.
I had a feeling! Thanks! Now to find a playthrough that really gets to the nitty-gritty!
In other news, remember that position Sega had about an Associate Manager in Sonic Lore?
Katie elaborated on it in detail.
In the past few years, we've been looking at the entire universe of Sonic and how things tie together canonically for the future. SEGA put together a small team of us internally, and along with the help of talented folks like @tyson_hesse, @IanFlynnBKC, and @SpiritSonic, we're working on making the universe and stories more meaningfully connected.
You may have seen examples of some of these changes in things like TailsTube, the Origins animations, the Knuckles Frontiers prologue (and the prologue comic!), and even Frontiers itself! That said, we are not the only ones involved in these decisions! With the help of Sonic Team, we all work together to ensure everything is airtight.
How does this position fit in? To set expectations, this position is not *the* Loremaster, but an important piece of the puzzle. This is a more managerial role, helping our Director of Lore schedule and collaborate with other teams. You of course will join creative discussions and brainstorms, but these decisions are not a 1-person job.
That said, it's an incredibly exciting role with a great team! It's also worth noting that this is not an entry-level position. The team is looking for someone that already has some solid project management experience!
I feel like this will be an absolute win.
Finally, anyone notice how Super Sonic has Sonic's normal shoes even when you equip Sonic with the Soap Shoes? There's a mod to rectify that!

Matt and Liam's Playthrough: In the first episode, Matt said they lost game audio. They considered rerecording everything, but they thought it was important to preserve their initial reactions to what they saw, so as not to lose any genuine "whoa" moments. They put up the first episode with their commentary and cobbled together game audio, which was easy for the cutscenes, but could not be done well for gameplay, aside from some music. Their second episode picks up after their first recording session, where everything is working again, but stuff was skipped over. However, they say they will be releasing the "lost" footage at a later date for completeness sake. The biggest thing lost in this kerfuffle is a bunch of Sonic and Amy scenes together. Those at least are fairly easy to find online.
Eh, it's on a case by case basis with me.
The USA Future tracks tend to blow the Japanese ones out of the water imo, whereas the Japanese soundtrack has consistently better Present tracks.
And of course most of the best songs in the soundtrack are in both, due to the Redbook issue.
I wish they would release a version of the game that let you toggle the soundtrack per level rather than all at once.
But does it fit...a Sonic game?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. Its done....
Ya know, I need to sleep to gather my thoughts.
All I'll say now is on my immediate feelings after finishing the game; I was already feeling exhausted by the time I got to the third island but kept trucking along to the 4th and 5th.
Then I played the final boss and the game just...pissed all of the good will I had for it.
Take that for what you will...
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I saw an interesting theory that the Phantom Ruby was a piece of The End that fell off and took a long time to make it to Sonic's planet.
The Protomen enhanced my life....Now you know why I can't stand Tails' section in Unleashed. They're not entirely Bullet Hell, but they're close enough to not be fun. Especially as you can't simply dodge by outright moving. You have to actually press specific buttons just right, which makes it way less fun, imo, of course.
Shadow?I see nothing wrong with a genre shift.
I see it as a way to vary up a game to prevent from being overly reptitive.
Plus, I like it as a homage, espeically since The End is as blatant an Homage to Treasure's final villains in their own Shmups as can be, especially the Stone Like, that I welcome it. That, and its hinted this isn't the last we'll see of The End, as it was only THIS incarnation we defeat, meaning we might have another reccuring antagonist other then Eggman for once.

Watch SymphogearGenre Shit to a Bullet Hell =/= Non functional Boss.
Some of the best action games out there have them, so I'm not sure why Sonic can't all of a sudden.
Watch SymphogearEdit: Nevermind, its not worth it.

Watch Symphogear

Finally managed to watch some (abridged) gameplay of Frontiers thanks to Matt McMuscles's Flophouse Plays channel.
I said "abridged" because they skipped some stuff like saving Amy and Sonic's first encounter with Sage. That being said, there's a perfectly logical explanation for what appeared to be amber-colored copies of Chaos 0, right? Am I right to assume the answer is a doozy and a half?
