I dunno. A lot of RPGS these days have fun with things like speed and turn order. The standard wait to take your turn combat gets spiced up all the time.
One thing I see a lot of is that instead of regular turns, character actions take time that the player can manage by choosing what actions to take and how fast your characters are, leading to things like party-wide momentum combos or cutting off the momentum your opponent is allowed to have, etc.
Sonic could work well with that.

There's no point in the last 4 games where Sonic breaks the 4th wall to lampoon the story...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.TL;DR: Blaze is good, the story is good; 06 is crap, Sonic Team didn't care about the continuity and whatever nonsense you make in your head is giving them too much credit, and Silver and that weird doppelganger that resembles Blaze are garbage and folks should put more focus into Blaze and Cream as the true friendship they have.
Anyway, time for another topic:
A New Venture is very good.

To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.If you notice in the comments of the Sonic Rush story video, I make a completely rational and not at all impassioned rant about the story and how Blaze has been treated in recent years.
I'm not bitter, why do you ask?
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Regarding Blaze... I dunno, I just feel like she works better as Silver's sidekick than as Sonic's AU counterpart.
Sonic character design tends to go that the simpler a character's design is, the more important they are. Sonic and Tails have simple-ass designs, they're the most important. Knuckles and Shadow have slightly more complex designs, but they're still pretty simple, they're the second tier of importance. Amy has a bit more complexity, she and the Chaotix are at roughly the same level.
Blaze's design is complex as fuck, her outfit looks like she's from a whole other franchise. In contrast, Silver has a fairly simple design, about on par with Knuckles and Shadow, denoting him as more important than her by the series' design philosophy. When I look at Blaze, I just don't see "super important character who is a direct counterpart to Sonic". I see that in Silver, Blaze looks more like "mage princess who is mildly important to the overall story".
Going by Sonic design philosophy, Silver has a much better design than Blaze for a major character.

She has the most complicated design of the female characters...which doesn't mean anything.
In comparison the only thing that makes her design complex is the fact that she's wearing a jacket that extends to the side.
She has unique cuffs on her gloves and socks same as every other character, and she has a jewel on her forehead.

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. If you can't explain it very well then its probably not a good point.
Its one thing to say Blaze's design is "complex" (when she's really not anymore complexly designed than any other Sonic character) but then use that as a justification to say she doesn't "feel" important is certainly some logic.
But you're entitled to your opinion, even if its wrong :P

A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Modern Eggman has a complex design, and he's literally the second most important character in the entire franchise, even moreso than Tails.
And regardless of what "works better", it's inherently extremely disingenuous to make a character who's meant to be an alternative universe counterpart to Sonic, and then completely chuck out her backstory for something new, while the team that created here were (presumably) working on Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure at the same time that 06 was in development.
Though I do remember that there was plans to connect the two games up properly, so I presume this is actually just an unfortunate side-effect of 06 getting cut in half, the head of the project quitting, and the suits above the dev team refusing to delay the game for any reason.
Overdesigned or not, from a practical standpoint Blaze should be featured in more games give her play style is similar enough to Sonic's that there's be be virtually no backlash to her being prominent. The two of them and Shadow being the main playable trio in a title is such an obvious move, its almost baffling it hasn't happened.
Given how Sonic Team currently develop their games, it feels like its a matter of assets. Frontiers and Forces use assets from Unleashed, Generations and Lost World respectively. When Shadow was a boss fight in Generations, complete with his own Boost, he was essentially future-proofed so to speak since now he could play like Sonic if they wanted to add him and they did with Forces. Blaze doesn't have that since she was only an NPC.
That's partially why I think we had the Avatar playable in Forces. All they had to do was just take Sonic's model and mess around with it. Bam, new playable character.
This is why I said if they do eventually have another playable character, it's either gonna be another variant of Sonic or its just gonna be Shadow. Since the assets are there.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does....huh, yeah. If not in the most iconic songs for the series "His World" still has to be one of the most beloved.
Which, it's rightfully deserved, but it's still surprising given the reputation of the game it's from.
...Part of me wants to give Sonic 06 a chance, now. I actually have a PS 3, unlike when the game came out.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.If you go in with the proper expectations - that it is broken in a lot of ways, and the story (especially Sonic's Episode) isn't particularly well crafted, and that the Town Missions the game makes you do are silly padding and where the biggest case of Loads and Loads of Loading comes in - I think you can have fun with it.
I concur that you just play the modded version, because we do not, under any circumstances, 'gotta hand it to' Sonic '06. It's a corporation pushing out a broken product. I will not tolerate thinkpieces or three-hour video essays about how it's secretly genius.

On the idea of another Sonic RPG, even though Sonic has a lot of character which would work great for the concept, I feel like a lot of people find the idea a bit odd because Sonic's focus on speed doesn't really gel with turn-based combat. I think that's why Chronicles tried to do the Paper Mario-style timed hits type thing and had those awkward overworld movement abilities.
I once thought about whether you could make a Sonic action RPG where you control multiple characters at once, but wasn't sure how that could work exactly. Then Neo The World Ends With You came out and it's exactly that, an action RPG where you control your entire party at once, and it's great and would actually be perfect for a Sonic RPG. Too bad nothing like that will ever happen.
