Frontiers so far have justified it's level start through the hub world better than 06, that had random portals not explained in Game. It was a Game Mechanic, but whatev
I don't remember how Unleashed did it
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.It had stands in different parts of the level hub...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. Each continent had its own hub for the stage acts (and that hub was separated from the town, which is just a town, not really a hub at all).
The PS3/360 version of Unleashed also introduced new abilities through these hubs. Sonic would find shoes that give him a new movement, and have to use that to maneuver to the entrance to the stage. (The Wii version, Sonic just has these abilities naturally from the start of the game)

Those aren't the only things that matter to people, you know. That was kind of rude.
Well, I for one will take portability over 1080p 60 FPS any day. And I'm not getting a steam deck when the only games I'd even have to currently make the trade off anyway are still at least available on my preferred portable platform.
It was mainly the "you do you", in combination to just saying the PC version is "better", no qualifiers, that I had a problem with.

My musician pageI don't know if it was rude, they were just listing the pros of the PC version. But you're right that the Switch has its own pros that might weigh more to certain people.
My take would be if you're uncommitted to either, hang back and wait to make sure none of the versions suffer from notable performance issues.

Same boat, though probably not to the same extent. At least, I can't play the big AAA titles on my PC.
For the crowd saving a click: Flying in the Tornado, Sonic and Tails come across Amy evidently fighting Eggman in a giant crab mecha while spewing lines from the Sonic Adventure games. Sonic and Tails are quick to help out but Sonic quickly realizes that Eggman's only saying stuff from before and wonders aloud why. Resolving to wrap the battle up quickly, Sonic forces the cockpit open...only to realize that the pilot isn't Eggman. To be continued!
Off to a great start IMO!

I’m torn between getting either Switch or PS 5 version.
Usually for Sonic games I go for the Nintendo version.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!The video has helped clarify what I think the biggest difference is between my own way of playing Sonic and that of various younger fans (ones often fond of the Adventure Era). While I think a lot of them play for the overall experience; the characters, the setting, the emotional significance that comes from the journey in it.
The contrast with me is that I'm just looking for something fun. Give me some decent level design, enough speed, and replay value of some sort and I basically set. That's essentially why I retain such fondness for the likes of SA 2; yeah, the story didn't do much for me, and 2/3 of the gameplay styles were kinda meh, but I played Sky Rail countless times, so it was an overall plus.
Sonic's arcade like roots are almost ironic in that sense. That sort of enjoyment & expectation of replaying levels softened a lot of potential antipathy towards certain 3D titles because I could get so much value from even a portion of the games. The overall experience wasn't something I would necessarily gush about, but by being (for lack of a better term) economical, I could maximize my enjoyment out of it.
Its probably the biggest factor why I never could finding myself lamenting the major shift after Unleashed (other than an basic artistic sense that its good to have ambitions). Sonic probably could be argued as being a less overall experience in the last 12 as defined by many younger fans, but certain games were allowing me personally to just have fun with them without as many caveats. A Tails acting wimpy in Forces was unfortunate sure, but with no gameplay with him (either good or bad) it was never going to be something I'd have as strong an opinion on.
It also probably why I'm cautiously optimistic about Frontiers; I have no idea how the overall emotional feel of the game will be or what grand plans it might achieve. There is enough there to get some fun out of it, and that's enough for me, even though obviously that's not the case for the likes of King K.

Most Sonic fans are artists, not too shocking a lot of them are more invested in the artistic stuff like lore and characters. Its like that for most children media.
Ironic thing about this is that I just had a debate on another forum of someone accusing me I don't have standards about Sonic because I don't get "overly passionate" (i.e. being a dick) about it.
So its not just "Adventure fans". Its pretty much anyone who deeply identifies with the aspects of Sonic that personally resonate with them, gameplay or otherwise.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Kinda sad to see that dude in the video lament that even if Frontiers is successful (and even if it's a good game on top of that), that the franchise is no longer what he fell in love with.
Him noting how 06 came to 100% define Sonic, even retroactively tainting past stuff as well as damaging even the better future games through the lack of ambition because people just wanted to squeeze every ounce of life out of the Sonic sux now meme basically sounds like a lot of what we've talked about here. I kinda hope he ends up playing it anyway and enjoys it somehow. Like, for a dude who actually seems to like 06, it would be nice to see him get to enjoy the franchise again.
I know there have been a few here who're apprehensive about Frontiers. Again, even if the game knocks it out of the park, it reminds me of previous arguments about how certain eras of the franchise alienated people who preferred a certain play style (Classic Platforming vs Story based adventure vs Modern Boost). The success won't matter if people feel the game has compromised what made it good (to them) in the first place.
It's the same argument we've had before: Sonic being so many things to so many people has been both it's greatest strength and it's greatest weakness.
One Strip! One Strip!

Too bad they missed the part where the Action stages were the main things people liked.
