Why Charmmy?

Partly curiousity and partly for Southworth to show off more of his silly side in his roles.

Oh man, Silver fights Trunks in Death Battle in 2 weeks.

Gonna go about as well as the two times Shadow tried to take on Vegeta.

Honestly after the Black Adam upset (jesus mary and joseph) I'm ready to find out Archie Silver accidentally rewrote the entire timeline.

Part of me is just uncomfortable with them using Dragon Ball Heroes as a basis.

Whatever, I'm all for hearing about Archie Silver. I like this version.

So…I decided to play Black Knight after 11 years, and it’s kinda fun.

Like I find this game to be fun. Helps that the controls don’t suck unlike Secret Rings.

Sonic with a sword works a lot better than Shadow with a gun.

It actually doesn't. Sonic doesn't use weapons because he's not for lethal force. He sticks out very sorely in Black Knight that way(at least compared to Secret Rings, which is more accurate to how he'd be). The other 3 Weapon users that are counterparts make some sense. Shadow is more than willing to use a sword to win. Knuckles loves fighting, and his glove is a weapon that gets upgrades to deal more damage essentially in Adventure 2(which means it's not that odd for him). Finally, Silver is from a crapsack world. ...Lethal force isn't too odd since his first primary gameplay goal is to kill Sonic, which he would've kept trying if he wasn't given the truth from Shadow. Ironically the rest of them stick to their characterization better than the only one actually from the real world. Funny that.

Shadow is perfectly okay with using lethal force to win, from the very start. A weapon is nothing more than a tool to get the job done. Besides that, he's surrounded by them while growing up in a military base. It never was strange for him to pick up one. He just didn't need to originally. The problem with the guns isn't the guns themselves, but how he's suddenly so weak. Especially against a regular slightly armored soldier. The bigger enemies were already more difficult as shown in Heroes, so that's consistent enough. It's kind of the only time where he's not immensely powerful, even. Could be attributed to memory loss(which can include how to use your strength at the fullest), but it's pretty odd even with that in mind. Especially since how he has immense strength isn't outright made clear. Like lifting up a car, etc.

That's all interesting. But.

Sonic looks better and plays better with a sword than Shadow does with a gun. It doesn't matter who's willing to use lethal force, Sonic easily blends into the image of a sword-wielding knight and an Arthurian setting.

Whereas Shadow never used a single gun prior to Shadow and for some reason liked riding in vehicles. Its easy to make fun of Shadow and his sudden gun use and it doesn't really add or figure into the plot at all.

Sonic using the blade in his jumps, stabbing walls, and fighting evil King freaking Arthur with it is a lot easier to digest, and its actually part of the plot. We've already had princesses and mythical locations and creatures too.

Therefore, Sonic with a sword works a lot better than Shadow with a gun.

Which I hate saying because I actually like Shadow but I like Black Knight way more.

It also works quite well with his fighting style that involves, well, spinning like a buzzsaw.

And still doesn't remotely become OOC for Shadow to use any of those. They all fit entirely within his character. It doesn't matter if he never picked up one before. There's zero reason he can't do so. He has zero qualms about it. That can't be said for Sonic, since he isn't a fan of using weapons. So only one is OOC overall, and that's Sonic.

Though yeah, it's weird for Sonic to pick up a sword regardless. It meshes somewhat well with the gameplay(but that's only cause they learned from the tragedy that was Secret Rings' terrible gameplay and actually improved massively on it. The rails works a lot better with weapons, as Star Fox has shown before).

Secret Rings is odd cause it actually is far more logical for Sonic(despite rails not working at all for his logical gameplay). Black Knight is completely OOC for him(the gameplay just works better because Sonic is forced to use a weapon OOC). Shadow is entirely IC for his own game, though it also helps it's a direct continuation of Heroes. The only issue with his game at best was the completely out of there swearing, especially when Sonic swore. While it happens a bit in the Japanese, it was a big eyebrow raiser in English. Shadow? He's always been a dark character, with his various music even bordering on it(especially the Final Chase, or was it Final Rush? I always mix those two up) with the lyrics. In the end, they just continued his dark characterization. It wasn't entirely odd for some others, like Rouge or Espio(a cat burglar and a ninja? Them swearing? Why, it's not like this isn't in tons of media). It doesn't help that both of them aren't nearly as characterized anyway before that, with Espio having two games. And that's not to say it was a good move. Besides, just like Black Knight's gameplay working, the guns work extremely well in Shadow, being actually a very good design that fit the darker character, his characterization, the world it's made from. As I said before, the only oddity was Shadow being too weak to take out regular armored Soldiers as easily. Otherwise? Nope, fit him very reasonably.

To be honest, when I'm having a good day, and now what I'm doing, Secret Rings can be more fun than Black Knight, especially with max upgrades for Sonic with the Wind Crest. He's even faster than in Unleashed.

Sonic and the Secret Rings's Leveling system was garbage. Like, getting better skills as you progress the game is fine in theory, but they gimp Sonic so hard in the early-game to do so.

But if you can make it through to the other end and get all the Speed-Up Skills and Aegis Slider (which I know isn't reasonable at all to ask people to do, so I don't begrudge anyone who just says "fuck this game" long before that), the game can actually be really fun... Just a really bad example of Earn Your Fun.

Death Battle: okay, but why are they using Archie Silver before using the actual games Silver? If they're gonna use a specific version of Silver why not use the literal primary version?

Shadow's guns: one thing that I feel doesn't get enough appreciation is the way that Shadow uses guns in his game. See, he doesn't actually keep a gun from level to level, he finds them laying around in the field and uses them until they run out of ammo or he decides it's no longer useful, upon which he'll literally toss it aside. To him, a gun is a tool that can be useful, not his entire strategy.

The reason is the fact that they want Silver to stand something resembling a chance.

Then pick a more fitting opponent instead of picking the not prime version of the character.

Its an odd comparison, but Shadow using realistic guns is a bit like the faux-romance between Sonic and Elise. On paper there's nothing inherently wrong it but the visual of it is so silly that for many its impossible to take seriously.

I'd say that... if Eggman didn't use a realistic one earlier, or that G.U.N. didn't use them with their soldiers. Realistic guns were already part of the world. If he's using weapons, they should be from the actual world they're already introduced in.

It was neat he used some alien ones and other silly stuff like the Omochao Gun, though. They were hilarious.
