I agree that that might've been neater. Though to be fair, the three timeline thing is kind of the point of the story, as meh as it is.
I've tried figuring out a good way to rework the story, but it really doesn't work well any other way outside of completely rewriting it to not resemble the old one.
That said, that was the issue with a new hero. He has no clear ties to anyone, and one partner was new enough to work, while the other wasn't related to him at all(Amy), but was still written in a way where she at least made sense in the narrative(since she's always searching for Sonic, though at least this time it wasn't badly done when specifically related to her relationship with Sonic. ...Shadow's game otherwise didn't have that issue, but you know, she has no real dialogue with Sonic anyway, so).
I get part of why; he was based upon Trunks after all. Which means the time travel thing was a given. I even like the point behind his gameplay(despite it clearly needing some work, but all the gameplay suffers here and there anyway from bugs, etc).
What I otherwise would like to see is Mephiles' true natural form that wasn't looking like another person.
Shadow?Had Blaze been built up as a supporting character to Silver, it would be no problem.
But she wasn't. She was the Deuteragonist of another game, entirely unrelated to Silver at all. I know one of the writers said the intent was to make them related but it never came through.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does. That's my point. They didn't communicate right, which is why Blaze's two first stories are so weird.
If they were two different Blazes, it'd have been less of an issue. But that's just the problem with her storyline being really bad in this game(Elise's might honestly be better, yeish).
Now if only someone else could've been in her place, things could've been easier to work with. They did revive Chaos Gamma in Battle in general, so that could've been a neat option, I guess?
Shadow?I mean, the story itself wasn't so much a problem as Silver's core story got a proper finish. Blaze was already used anyway in future games while Silver was not beyond Rivals(he had cameos at best, but not a true story role).
So it really didn't affect Blaze at all. Her story was finished in Rush Adventure, and since she's not from the regular world, her showing up has to be actually be better justified. She's not a common appearance by design. She might've been if 06 was her only appearance, as she was still from the "regular world", but introducing her own world is more detrimental than 06 was in the end.
It's a problem with writing alternate universes. Those types of characters often get far less appearances than the main universes. Unless they spin off into their own full series of works, which did not happen at all. The closest we got is a revival of Classic Sonic to a degree, and barely that.
Shadow? And we have a scenario where a secondary character somehow has more restrictions in use than the literal main character lmao. This fucking company.
Gonna be real interesting to see how the movie reinterprets him given Sega has no creative control there.
Here's the part I can't get, when/why did they get so protective of him to begin with? Was it something to do with his game being so-so and his campaign in Sonic 06 arguably being the strongest of the three, but it's left Sega thinking "well shoot, where do we go from here?"
It's very puzzling.
But yes, in an ideal timeline, Sega will want to take notes when the third Sonic movie comes out to have an idea on where to take Shadow.
Now that I'm curious about. What could they use from his game? Having the Black Arms would be one massive case of tonal whiplash...
Black Doom alone might be kind of usable(even if it's a minor backstory point at best), but not the whole story with the Black Arms, since that was well beyond what the first two movies did(which at worst had Robotnik as basically a terrorist. But not a worldwide panic kind of thing). Albeit, having it more widespread around the world is plausible, but being everywhere is way too big of a leap. The Resident Evil movies did that and it was jarring. Like, where's the step of the world slowly going into chaos due to the infection? Nope, it was "one city, and then suddenly, everything's gone nuts".
However, focusing more on Adventure 2's stuff is way easier. Since it could still be a worldwide threat(like with Space Colony Ark), but not with the world entirely taken over(which works for a fourth movie, sure). Regardless of whether Robotnik would come back or if they used Gerald.
Shadow? If you take out the devil imagery... you'd still be left with a Hedgehog made from the blood of an alien species. That SEEMS like it'd still be dissonance, but we're also talking about a Hedgehog apparently being the Ultimate Life Form.
Sonic's universe is weird.

Did Penders even write anything notable with Shadow? Knuckles and his extended family of OCs are mainly the ones Penders gets weirdly obsessed about.
I think Yakuzu just meant though that the Penders thing caused Sega to generally be more protective of anything outside writers like comics and cartoons are doing.
Yea basically, sorry if I worded that badly. Penders had no direct involvement with Shadow.
I was referring to the fact that the legality battle that broke out as a result of Pender's lawsuit put Sega's eyes on the comic and decided to double down on enforcing their influence to keep the book more in line with actual Sonic canon...
Unfortunately, that also means Sega basically bar any creatives from making any significant changes with the cast that removes from how they are established in the games. No it doesn't matter that Sega themselves have no plans with most of these characters at all, and they're gonna make damn sure nobody else will either.
That said, they're doing their best. IDW isn't revolutionary in its writing but its entertaining enough in the guidelines they're given. Sure would be nice if they could do anything with Shadow, but I'd rather just not see him at all if they're not allowed to do anything with him.
Did you know a recent arc had to be rewritten because Sega said "Shadow doesn't hang out" and so they had to add Amy.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.I just wanted to post that I really hate Sonic special stages because I'm no good at them. I didn't get Last Story for Sonic Heroes until after I beat Shadow the Hedgehog. I'm even worse at them in the classic games. But the special stages I hate the most is probably Sonic Advance 2 because:
1. You to find 7 collectible shit in a level each time and not die just to get to a special stage
2. There's a multiplier for rings when you do the special stage, and if you aren't quickly getting rings so you can get a high multiplier, you'll fail the special stage
3. You need 28 Emeralds just to unlock Amy. That's 7 emeralds for Sonic, Cream, Tails, and Knuckles. Getting the final 7 emeralds bringing your total to 35 for Amy is just bragging points. You also need to get 7 emeralds with any character (say 7 emeralds with Sonic) in addition to beat the game to unlock Tiny Chao Garden.
I felt relieved in Sonic Generations where you didn't have to do special stages to get the chaos emeralds, but on the other hand, Super Sonic burns two rings per second instead of one, can't use any other skills, and the aerial boosts that autopilots through the stage uses up too many rings, so I ended up disappointed anyway.
Sonic advance 2 had my favorite special stages of all time*, would regularly get 100s of rings. I did use a prima guide to tell me where the 7 collectibles were in each act but the stages themselves were a breeze.
- I have only owned the gba and Game Cube games and played the hellish mess that is chronicles on ds.
Sega's approach to Shadow seems in their mind to be a desperate attempt to prevent Knuckle's fate from befallen Shadow.
Unfortunately it seems that in their attempt to save Shadow they've taken away the things that made you like the character to begin with.
____
Pender's and Enchida love was ironically caused by yet another Sega mandate
He couldn't go into depth about Hedgehog history.
Praise be to the absolute QueenSpeaking of Amy I have more concrete predictions on how the 3rd movie might turn out
- I prolly made a similar post like this before, so apologies for the redundancy, but anyway I think it might try mixing plots and elements from CD, Adventure 2 and Shadow and would thus introduce hedgehogs Amy and Shadow and local cutie pie rabbit Cream and her pet chao Cheese
- The general idea would be to have Shadow be in Metal Sonic's role as well as his own since Baldy Mcnosehair's apparent demise preempted Metal Sonic, and such a move would make things more concise. That is to say Edgy Hedgy will be the one to kidnap Amy. the reasoning would be different naturally (an ironic possibility would be mistaking her for Sonic, but that assumes the people that discovered him didn't specify beyond "fellow talking hedgehog")
- The Shadow game bits would be the least prominent of the source material due to being a kids movie (so no assault weapons, the motorcycle would also prolly be out due to redundancy), its mainly gonna do with Black Doom and his role in Shadow's backstory, and maybe GUN employment.
- For Amy and Cream's roles she would be introduced either:
- as someone already captive, in which case part of the story would be them escaping by themselves, fining Sonic and getting captured again
- as already being stalked by Shadow assuming she is Sonic, in which case she would actually find Sonic first and neither wouldn't be captured unless Sahdow's handlers are stupid or Amy ends up intercepting the kidnapping willingly (the possibility of which is probable)
- Cream may be targeted either by bad luck (being near Amy at the time and ended up captured) or because of Cheese, the latter case serving as a possible setup for adapting the skipped Adventure 1. Either way, Cheese's presence would pique Knuckles' interest and give him an in to the plot
- As for Amy's crush on Sonic, expect the usual dynamic (toned down in Amy's case) and expect the hedgehogs being teens in this continuity to affect things somewhat.
- No time travel shenanigans, but the locales would be based on CD and Adventure 2 locations, with Stardust Speedway being on the Space Colony ARK and serving as the site of the clash between Sonic and Shadow. Basically the ARK will double as a Little Planet ersatz
- GUN's role would be simple, they unearth Shadow and try to learn more about him, Sonic and Chaos, as such they will be be using the former to get Sonic and Cheese, this would serve to explain why Amy ended up mistaken for Sonic in the first place, as Shadow would had assumed that Sonic would be connected to Chaos somehow and would consequently be near a Chao (Cheese and by extension Cream), but again it assumes his knowledge of him was too limited to have the details such as color and gender, and that GUN dropped the ball (that might be addressed by Shadow leaving prematurely).
- Rouge may or may not appear, but if she does, she will serve as an antagonist come ally involved with both Shadow and Knuckled, in this case, GUN would hire her to look into the Master Emerald and Chaos as a secondary plan while they try to get Sonic and Cheese. She might also have a role in the Knuckles spinoff.
- The movie will end with the ARK destroyed and Shadow being Spared by the Adaptation in a sense. And will end with teases of Chaos awakening for the next movie. Amy and Cream end up living with Sonic and Tom (much like Tails and Knuckles)

Broli's "idea" was doomed from the start in a series like Dragon Ball.
It was executed about as well as it could be for not being feature film length.
Then they made 2 more which had nothing to do with the original concept.

Silver's not like that at all.
His concept is fine and can be attempted again (mulligan), but he can't keep coming back because of it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Well, here's a surprise.
Sonic Frontiers won Best Upcoming Game in Tokyo Game Show 2022.
I almost want to think it's a big deal because, if I'm not mistaken, Sonic isn't nearly as popular in Japan as he is in the West.

Ok. I thought it could work, but I admit it may be trying to force a round peg into a square hole.
I agree that she needed a better role. I still think she should have been the third story instead of Silver, but then we'd have less male hedgehogs.
And I don't even hate Silver.
