Looks like a Sonic game alright.

Truthfully I don't know why we needed to see Sky Sanctuary again but seeing the Death Egg in 3D is always a treat, and seeing the stage gimmicks in three dimensions too.

Being an architect in Sonic's world must either be a high-paying job or an absolute nightmare.

I think I recognize the stage elements here, which kind of worries me. But I think the first half of the stage is mostly one of the Tropical Resort acts from Sonic Colors, and the second looks like Skyscraper Scamper from Unleashed.

I could be wrong though.

Spoilers/Leaks/Theories/Nonsense? Opinions about the "spoilers"?

I think that maybe there is some form of truth in them, but i don't know completely for sure.

The Starfalls Islands actually being digital alongside Sonic friends being digital copies would be great material for Angst, so maybe that means that isn't true.

Well, if these "leaks" are true, what truly matter is the execution, so we will see.

Opinions about the "spoilers"?

I think that maybe there is some form of truth in them

I think they exist mainly to create outrage and negative preconceptions about the game.

    angry rant

I wish we didn't live in a time where nearly every video game gets some form of "leak" and I wish companies had tighter NDA's when it came to this level of product. Blizzard and Activision no problem, but every body else really needs to start locking this stuff down. Further I wish people weren't hunting for leaks and jumping to get thoughts on them, but that seems to be an intrinsic part of human behavior and overall gaming culture these days.

I've gotten really tired of conspiracy/theory/leak videos populating my Youtube feed. Sometimes they're admittedly speculative, most of the time they're "somebody posted a weird thing on Twitter" or "a random guy who works for the studio/is an inside/my uncle works for Microsoft and knows when Halo 3 is coming out!" And nowadays they're usually somebody with a passion for complaining using their plot leaks to prematurely butcher a game's reputation.

I mean case in point this leak promotes the idea that this game could have actual angst character depth, so it's probably not true. What kind of false positive BS is that?

Nothing against you. Venting.

I doubt any of that is true. Not just because Flynn denied it but because Sonic games tend to have narrative patterns and having a big Tomato in the Mirror plot would be a jaunt from that pattern.

[up] I feel like what you're asking would entail several factors that would be impossible bar specific government regulations (mandatory ND As with a higher level of strictness than current). Specifically a shift away from building hype (and world a mouth) and in the extreme scenario, towards outright shadow-launching. Something that wouldn't guarantee profits bar from the largest of I Ps and would guarantee as much profit for those.

I suspect that it might also entail a shift away from seeking out or giving spoilers, which is a problem for the discourse side and might cause gatekeeping issues.

I feel like games used to release without a massive leak of the plot a few months into their development time, and developers would release information on their own terms. We accomplished this for literal decades and it didn't prevent building of hype or require massive government action.

I used to think certain companies had it coming, some disgruntled employee deciding to screw them over. That's fair enough. Now though it feels like any triple A game is likely to have some incredibly resourceful leaker. Meanwhile indie developers don't have this problem and manage advertisement through trailers, Patreons, word of mouth, and Steampages just fine.

If we're at a point where leaks are a good thing/game companies rely on them for hype then that's just kind of sad. There's something fundamentally wrong with gaming culture/the industry in that event.

TBH I have a low opinion of AAA devs and as such am predisposed to thinking those aren't mutually exclusive. That said the internet didn't exist for roughly half the lifetime of the medium and social media was even more recent. Both of those are what is causing leaks to get out of hand.

I'm also willing to argue that is something fundamentally wrong with gaming culture, but that is for reasons unrelated to leaks.

I'm playing the Japanese version of Sonic Battle, and there's something a bit surreal about seeing Sonic yell "Jesus Christ!" in katakana.

Is the Japanese version fitted with a different English script, or are they the same internationally?

Though I did notice some of the katakana can be hard to read with the way it's displayed. I saw a similar issue with Quest 64's Japanese version at times, heh.

The broad strokes are the same yea, but the language is fitted to the region. Like there's a slight difference in how Japan writes Sonic versus Western territories as we discussed.

But the English thing is a Sonic thing lol. He's always had a lot of Engrish in the Japanese script, and its him specifically who uses a lot of english phrases lol.

The Japanese version of Battle does have its own English script you can switch to that's different from the script in the American and European versions. I think it was translated directly by the Japanese side of Sega. I don't know exactly how they differ, but I do know the Japanese version's English script uses a fair amount of profanity in it. Kind of beating Shadow's game to the punch on that.

I'm playing the game in the Japanese script though, Sonic was just doing his thing of saying random English. I think it looked particularly weird because the subtitles in 3D games usually write his English out as is, while Battle's script seems to be more kid-friendly, it uses less kanji and write's Sonic's English phrases in katakana. That makes it look less like Sonic using funny foreign words and hits more like if Sonic yelled "Jesus Christ!" in the English dub.

Because even out of character, one can only imagine Sonic the Hedgehog saying that.

Ah, thank you.

And I have noticed Sonic can sometimes be a little more profane in some games etc. In Sonic X he says Shit in English in the Japanese version, for instance. The time it appears in(as in when the games were made) does seem to give the characters a bit more attitude than other ones.

Though really, it's only Amy that's just a bit much. While she has a couple moments in Heroes, for the most part, we see her caring nature pretty well. Battle makes her beyond obsessed with Sonic to the point of materializing an overpowered version of him as her battle partner. That's... concerning. Same with the massive Boxercise stuff. I can understand a little mistaking Sonic's phrasing of his relationship with Emerl, but not her massive crazy responsible to the situation. Made even worse when she antagonizes Rouge in Rouge's own chapter to a crazy degree. The bat was given permission to lead Emerl at the time, so.

...Albeit, Rouge was using him for nefarious purposes(only one to do so besides Eggman, no less), but even then, Amy was completely delusional during the game. I am glad we got to see some major character development from Cream though. That was great. For the most part, the writing is fun and interesting, bar one character overall. Now imagine if Chaos Zero could actually talk? XD
