Whelp, I guess the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase is easily the best look we got at Sonic Frontiers so far.
If you listen to the music, you can hear some legit electric guitar-ing alongside the orchestral bits. Great news for the crowd who thought Sega was ditching Sonic's penchant for kick-ass rock music!
Thanks to Tails Channel, we have deep threads on what we got so far for Frontiers:
- The Story
- Sonic and Sage:
The latter is looking real creepy. I'm betting she'll be looking like the Infinite/Chaos stand-in, but it turns out she's the Tikal.
- Kronos Island and Cyber Space!
- Battle System:
(Looks like it'll come with an Auto Mode for the crowd who are here for the running.)
- The Cyloop and Puzzles:
That circle-y thing that Sonic been seen doing that kinda reminds me of Okami? It's officially called the Cyloop and it does pretty much the same thing it does in Okami. Also, puzzles will help expand the map and make Sonic learn new moves, but we already figured that out.
- Gameplay Styles:
Frontiers will feature Action Style and High Speed Style gameplay. Action Style sounds like it's more fitted for Adventure stans while High Speed Style will cater to the Boost stans.
- And now, enemies! We got Soldiers and Cyclones!
Finally, if you think that'll be it, think again! Game Informer magazine announced
the game will be the cover story on their 347th print issue! Check out the covers!
Plus, not only are the covers done by IDW Sonic artist Evan Stanley, but the Gold Variant (the one in white) is actually based on the cover of the very first issue
of Game Informer, which featured Sonic!
EDIT:
Ye gods, imagine if Sage ends up like that in the obligatory villainous breakdown...

It may sound incredibly ridiculous, but it's not out of the realm of possibility in the Sonic world. Even though I don't want that to happen, I fear they're gonna shove in Infinite for the sake of a "plot twist bad guy", like how Zavok suddenly appeared in Sonic Forces and Team Sonic Racing without the rest of the Deadly Six.

So Infinite and 2B had a daughter, whose now going to fight Sonic. Though I doubt it, I kinda hope that Sage has multiple forms like Chaos because I can't really see the executives at SEGA being like "We approve of Sonic hitting children".
Unless of course Sage isn't the final boss and hopefully it's not another Eggman final boss (unless they make it far better than the last few we've gotten).

what's Knuckles up to then?
Title's supposed to link to Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?! but that just breaks the title instead. -_-Eh, I still hope this game's soundtrack will be more atmospheric than anything else. This series has only done it once in a spinoff (albeit, a spinoff I love) and to this day I question why they've never done it again. I wanna get a similar feeling as when I'm playing Legend of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon flying around in the Valley of Avalar.
No rain could douse the flames that burn within me!Why would they do it "again"...
Platformers aren't typically known for their atmospheric OST.
Sonic also doesn't venture into genres where that sound would be fitting.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Seconding the desire for an atmospheric OST.
I love me some City Escape and Knight of the Wind though.
I don't want Eggman to show up and mess up any pretense of seriousness this game might have. I feel like the second he shows up he and Sonic will go back to their usual tired dynamic.
If he does show up I hope he's equally befuddled by Starfall Island. I really hope this isn't just another Eggman plot.

What dynamic is that?
Sonic & Eggman's longest string of interactions was in Sonic Lost World.
They don't get to do that much.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Likewise there are also fans that became such through Archie's comics (which had its own rouges gallery with Scourge, Ixis, Fintivius, Mammoth Mogul, etc) and I expect history to repeat with IDW (Starline, Rough and Tumble, and Mimic being the starting point, as well as having the Zeti get more of a role in general)

My ignorance of that fact is only bolstered by my coming into the fanbase around the same time and not feeling the same way.
Only because it's handled badly whether or not Eggman is in control.
If Eggman is not the villain, that would be neat...but if he was, then I can only hope this new character is at least fun.
Doesn't look fun, but dialogue can be.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Just a reminder that in the many polls done by the Japanese crowd, Eggman is not in them.
This, in hindsight, makes me think the 2000's were just...using new villains because the folks at home think Eggman is kind of dull.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. Many a echo...
It still sounds like an ice level.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I feel like Eggman is at his best when he is Affably Evil and competent but not vile. He IS an asshole, but a fun asshole.
