I do like how in Sonic Adventure, in English, Eggman is explicitly an insult. But then in Adventure 2 he's calling himself Eggman now. Like he's just owning it.
Adventure 2 is the one I played first, after having only ever played Sonic 1 and 2 and seen some of the Adventures of Sonic cartoon before that. So I only knew the name Robotnik, and when I first heard the name Eggman I thought "Oh, Dr. Robotnik's been replaced with this guy?"
My first Sonic games were Adventure 2 Battle at a friend's house and Rush by myself, and I remember said friend also had some DVDs of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog we would watch together and I remember being confused by the name "Robotnik" in the cartoon, though I was easily able to tell it was the same character.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonSonic 2 was mine, but Sonic Adventure 2 was the first one I ever beat as a kid. My sibling showed me episodes of Sonic SATAM and I wound up getting really hooked on Sonic X, or at least when was able to catch it. Somewhere along the way I picked up Sonic Advance 2, 3, and Battle, and some episodes of Sonic X that were watchable on the Gameboy Advance (so I could enjoy them during roadtrips). I ended up with Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic 2006. Picked up Sonic Generations and then Mania much, much later.
Oh, forgot about Sonic Riders (bullsh-t 2nd level) and Zero Gravity (A-ranked all the side missions to unlock Super Sonic). Good times.
I first saw him referred to by both names in a magazine, so I guess I just assumed that he went by both.

Oh God! Natural light!Strong disagree on the Classic Games being completely plotless, the overarching backstory of the Chaos Emeralds ties every major Classic Game up until Adventure together, with the collection of ancient ruins, lost civilizations, prophetic murals, and the dangers of tapping the emeralds for power leading up to Perfect Chaos's eventual appearance.
It's why Labyrinth, Aquatic ruins, Marble Garden, both Hidden Palaces, and Hydrocity have so much in common, why warnings about the Chaos Emeralds exist in multiple islands, and why I suscribe to the hypothesis that Angel Island used to be the eastern half of West-side Island.
And then Adventure 2 reveals that Robotnik has been chasing his Grandfather's incomplete research on ancient civilizations and their use of the Chaos Emeralds all this time, which continues to bear fruit until after Shadow the Hedgehog.
Heck, even the Kukkus (Tails Adventure) and the Babylon Rogues (Riders) seem to have a connection that I'm surprised they never got around to exploring.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! So, I got Origins.
Playing the story mode is a bit interesting and I so far like the cutscenes.
Only played 1 and CD so far, and got the bad endings of each.
Tomorrow I’ll play 2. 3&K will likely be started on Sunday.
BTW, is the version of CD in Origins only using the US Soundtrack with no option to play the better Japanese soundtrack?

This

It was missing before...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. The story mode solves an issue with the classic games, and that the relevant backstories of the characters were only in mannuals, so now you can see Tails being bullied (thanks for nothing, Movie 2), and see Amy's affinity for magic (thanks for nothing, Adventure games), and Knuckles getting tricked (nothing, you showed this)
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.Sonic 1 does have an option for a 7th Chaos Emerald, complete with Super forms! Unfortunately, just like the mobile version, you have to do it through level select, and can only use it on a No Save run.
Enable level select (up-down-left-right on the Sonic 1 title screen), and the option will be there, as well as some other fun things like Sonic 3 shields!
Sonic 2 has a similar menu in its level select (up-up-up, down-down-down, left-right-left-right on the title screen), by playing song 00 in sound test a few times.

It takes all types. People like what they like; it's not a competition.
