I don't think y'all understand that this isn't just some mediocre Sonic game that nobody gives a fuck about.
This is Sonic 3, the Magnum Opus of the series. A game where even the most contrarian of Sonic fans agree deserves its rep as the best game.
....And they fucked up the music.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Regardless, it's only one part of the game. Classic Amy being essentially teased hard to us, coupled with a horrid pricing deal, and the music not all being great? It's not exactly the best way to do it. Albeit, licensing is a thing, and just because money talks doesn't mean people will say yes to licensing all the time. There's probably some reason why we didn't get the original music. Could it be laziness? Sure. But if licensing is a huge amount of money for the song, that's also a turn-off. Business are trying to make actual money with products, so they have to keep to a budget to make sure they get money back.
I'm more interested in why they couldn't actually get all the better songs in. But it's still the least important part to me overall of it. With Classic Amy being pointlessly teased just slightly above, because she'd actually be interesting to finally see use again.
Shadow?I wasn't really interested in buying the game, but since it's all anyone could talk about I figured I'd check out the music.
I'm legitimately a bit confused. For all the doomsaying I've been hearing I was expecting the tracks to actually be poor, but the worst I can say about them is that the soundfonts are off and on occasion they sound more akin to the musical variety of something like the Master System.
But the Master System sound was still fine (just not as robust as the Megadrive), and these replacement tracks aren't badly made music-wise or anything - just simple on occasion. They definitely don't deserve the comparison to Chronicles. You could pick far worse across Sonic's music library than these five tracks.
I'm especially digging the Carnival Night replacement.

Act 2 or Act 1 or both?
Act 1 is the only one most people are complaining about.
Even people who liked the original version of it.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Error...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I don't have much issue with the Carnival Night Zone tracks but my god the Ice Cap Zone tracks replacing the originals sound utterly horrible. The upbeat atmosphere doesn't really fit the area at all.
"Punishment is not the answer. Punishment is easy. It's lazy. Redemption is hard. Redemption makes you work."-Skulduggery PleasantIt's a fine track (the original)...
Randomness would say it fits in the Advance games Ice Levels...
But youtube commenter compared it to Ristar, which is pretty fair.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I mean, we already were expecting the prototype/PC compilation themes for a while, because, again, the first re-release in 1997 already had that approach. What else is to expect? The original music has rights issues, the prototype themes were agreed upon to be inferior anyway, this has been expected to happen for a while, this had already happened 25 years ago.
It doesn't really tarnish the game. What were you expecting, to Jun Senoue to revisit some "meh" themes he worked on almost 30 years ago and make them good while emulating software/hardware limitations? That would have been dope, ngl, but, let's be honest, it'd feel inferior ANYWAY.
Speaking of the Advance games, a collections of those might be something they'll think about depending on how Sonic Origins performs.

Iizuka said in interviews that Adventure remakes wouldn't really be on the table; one sec lemme find it.

The only disagreement I have with your statement Enio, is that Tv Tropes is chill, most of the complains come from Twitter. And yeah, Iizuka is not interested in remaking Adventure.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back.I mean, Twitter is toxic for fandom discourse of any kind (or hell, for most things), and one ought to curate their experience.
TV Tropes in general has this tendency to go "ruined forever". Just because it isn't as extreme as Twitter, doesn't make it level-headed on a vaccuum.

There's plenty of other things to criticize.
- Scummy price tag
- Denuvo
- No save state function
- Widescreen limited to Anniversary mode
- Paywalled hard mode
- Unimpressive extras
