The internet didn’t accurately say what the problems were. The problem wasn’t that expanded casts were a thing, the problem was many felt their gameplay styles often didn’t mesh well with the series or we’re not fun to many fans. I’d say Tails, Knuckles, Mighty, Ray, Shadow, and Blaze were pretty well liked when they play similarly to Sonic but have some differences to them. Note that I’m someone that likes Treasure Hunting and Mechs.

Oh, by the way in part 2 of Pariah's 06 gameplay video (Yeah, early, I know) he started off by mentioning how people were complaining in the comments of the 1st part that he was playing the modded version and said his opinion is invalid because he's not playing the actual game. ... That wasn't a bad choice of words on my part, was it? Anyways, I can't remember what he said, but he did say something about people should be playing a game that's fun or something like that, so it doesn't matter whether someone is using mods or not when reviewing a game. Now I'm not gonna voice what I think about that, mainly because I can't play mods, but what do you guys think of that?

This person is reviewing a game conceptually based on fixes from mods...

At the end of the day, he's reviewing the idea of the play style, and the mods (and the P06 remake) don't really change much, so I say he is completely on the right. He's not a retrospective reviewer despite what he is doing, he's only judging the gameplay styles and being the most honest Sonic story reviewer I have seen after Roger from Sonic Dissected.

The final result I'm sure will be an informative analysis for a lot of people, though personally as far as reviews of 06 go, the ones from Some Call Me Johnny, The Great Clement, and Geek Critique still remain the benchmarks for me in terms of really looking at the game.

But that's not what he;s really trying to do; he just wants to play the game and say what he thought about it essentially

Origins is up for pre-order on the Switch with the base version at 3.7 GB size and the Deluxe version somehow at 7.8 GB.

Heck of a lot of uncompressed audio tracks I suppose.

Josh’s review is my favorite ‘06 review because he focuses purely on the gameplay.

If you're talking about the video above, it appears that stories are covered in separate videos.

Which is fine I guess, if that's makes it easier to focus or organize thoughts.

Beyond explaining the broader context of 06's release (and its major effect in the years afterward), I think Geek Critique's look at it is effective in illustrating that one can have fun with the actual gameplay. Granted, it's from knowing exactly how broken it is and utilizing that to your advantage, but it demonstrates to me why there is some real value beyond the major ambitions of it I so often see praised.

Pariah uploaded the second and third parts of his 06 review detailing Silver and Shadow's gameplay. He came to the conclusion that its essentially the culmination of the Sonic Adventure style of games up to that point as it adds almost everything from that era.

Hub worlds from Sonic Adventure, the multiple campaign system from SA 2/Heroes, and in Shadow's case, it has his combat and weapon based gameplay. Even in the story, you have things like the Egg Carrier returning and Shadow's campaign overall just being a victory lap for his entire character arc.

He completely agrees with the sentiment that 06 is in fact Sonic Adventure 3 in all but name, and that its unfortunate the end product doesn't reflect the game's ambition.

That was one of the weirdest discourses about the Sonic series to me. "They should make Sonic Adventure 3." Even though 06 was clearly it.

But no Chao Garden, so no it isn't! *eye roll*

Its more like Sonic 06 was so fucking bad, that people kind of want an (official) version of it that doesn't suck.
