You can easily handwave it with Eggman trying a different type of Robot Sonic after the first one got defeated by crashing to a door that the actual Sonic can easily shrug off (Metal dies to the door, Sonic to the laser), so he went for a bulky type of Sonic Robot.
Silver Sonic was a prototype and Mecha the completed version, then he decided "You know what? Fuck it, I just get Metal back and upgrade him to keep up with the current Sonic" and Coloring Colorado, esta historia sigue.
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"I've always taken it as "Metal got left behind after CD, so Eggman builds both the Silver Sonics (the 16-bit and 8-bit versions I believe are different robots) and Mecha Sonic."
Considering that Tails is absent in the original version (and I don't buy that Sonic and Tails would willingly split up), it seems to me that CD takes place basically after both the 16-bit and 8-bit versions of the original and Sega Sonic.
3&K has to be the game that is immediately after the 16-Bit version of 2, seeing as Eggman gets stranded on Angel Island after Sonic knocks out the Death Egg.
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!Tails' Adventure is a solo adventure "after" Sonic 3 btw.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice."long time no see" came to be specifically BECAUSE Sonic was willing to go and have adventures without Tails.
Anyways yeah Sonic R is canon
My theory is that Metal Sonic was from the Bad Future; either Eggman stole/was lent him by Future Eggman, or he used future technology to make Metal Sonic. Mania/Forces implies that Sonic has DBZ timeline traits.
Whoa, Sara's VA from the Sonic OVA is on Reddit! https://www.reddit.com/r/SonicTheHedgehog/comments/i1cxtv/i_gave_my_sonic_obsessed_nephew_8_the_og_sonic/
So let's see: game that is styled after the older games, but uses a design that a portion of the fanbase doesn't care for which creates division.
Am I talking about Sonic 4 or Project Hero?
Context: The next build of Project Hero is going to streamline a lot of it's old content, including switch to more classic styled models...much to frustration of some Modern fans

I guess because Modern Sonic hasn't had a solid game since....Generations....or Colours? What?
One Strip! One Strip! Also, Robo Blast 2 comes off so much like an attempt to remake Adventure without the Homing Attack (for better or for worse, it definitely needs to find better ways to deal with the hole in transveral eschewing that creates) that it's a little surprising Modern fans would shun it.
Is it literally just a character design thing?
SRB 2 is probably one of the best bridges between Classic fans and certain Adventure fans. I mean yeah the core concept is based around a pre-1999 aesthetic but in 3D, but there's so many mods based around Adventure Era concepts that its got genuine appeal for that particular fandom.
Both Classic and Modern are associated with two separate philosophies and aesthetics.
Classic fans are generally more concerned about the game play and how it functions, with the most annoying only accepting nothing less than "authentic classic gameplay" but generally its gameplay above anything else.
Modern fans seem more focused on the secondary elements; like music, graphics, and especially story and characters and that's the biggest distinction. Naturally, they are mostly associated with the Adventure series.
So when Project Hero initially used the modern designs. Modern fans felt validation because someone finally was showing that the modern designs CAN function in a proper 3D environment. So when the switch to the classic designs happened, it felt like a betrayal and regression. Most modern fans associate the classic design with regression and stagnation because most classic fans don't seem to care for those secondary elements that Modern fans do.
The irony here that this was literally reversed ten years ago, with Classic fans moaning at Modern Sonic being put into Sonic 4. Because Modern Sonic represents when the series focused more on those secondary elements at the cost of the games actually being functional, so having it in Sonic 4 left a bad taste.

Very much agree here.
The reasons why I tend to enjoy the Classics differ from why I enjoy the Adventure games.
I like Classic because of how good the gameplay generally is (3&K, Triple Trouble, and Mania moreso than the others).
While the Adventure games do have overall good gameplay to me (barring Amy and Big in SA 1, and some of the Treasure Hunting levels in SA 2), I more enjoy things like the stories, the character interactions, and the music (which I also enjoy in the classics).
AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!

Metal Sonic was according to Sonic 4 left behind at Stardust Speedway for a while.
