It's weird how the Zeti are supposed to be thousands of years old.

Wuh? Where'd you get that from?

Official bios, though now that I look at them, Zik is the only one over a thousand, all the rest are just over a hundred years old.

They're based on a type of Yōkai that's why.

I have to say watching that video I can totally understand why the Zeti are unpopular. They are unbelievably one-note & tropey.

Ya got the leader, the crazy one, the old master, the goth, the fat idiot, & the girl whose design just happens to be the most technically humanish & that is literally all that can be said about each of them. No nuance, not complexity, their name doesn’t even sound right since it doesn’t have the alliterative appeal most team names have like Sinister Six, Fearsome Four, & Terrible Trio.

And once you combine bare characterizations with uninspired boss battles and ya got a bunch of scrappies right there. Like the simple AF personalities would be alright for the most part as long as they all have epic boss battles but they don’t sadly.

I don't think it helps that their visual aesthetic just doesn't feel like it fits Sonic all that well. Inspiration from Yokai mythology always seemed more like a Mario thing, and even the more fantastical creatures the franchise has used have always more of the large scale abomination variety like Perfect Chaos, the Biolizard, or Dark Gaia.

It's so strange that SEGA saw it fit to bring Zavok back for Forces.

The thing that sticks out most to me is their lack of context for...anything; there's no background information for who they are or where they come from. I can take a Non-Standard Character Design, but the game never really calls attention to the otherworldly nature of it.

The Simple and unmemorable characterizations are just the icing on the cake.

They made that character and by god, they are going to use them.

So i gotta ask, did Shadow kill Eggman in his self-titled game? Or just knock him out?

Also the racing game. I think their trying to turn him into a thing I’m not sure. Well it’s better than Zeena, shows their not completely obvious.

I believe he only kills Eggman in one of the darker routes where Shadow goes off the deep end.

Imagine you spent all of this time designing a character and their role, only for nobody to like them. DO you really think they're going to just scrap the D6 altogether because a few people don't like them :V

Like all but one Eggman ending, Shadow just karate chops Eggman, and then there's a NOOOOO from him before cutting to black.

That was disturbing as a first ending.

But fuck, if kid me could see how ridiculous Shadow thinking he's a robot was, Sega really needed to think that story through.

The hard boiled heavies are waaay more popular than the deadly six, and they aren't getting much marketing.

Maybe they just think he's a good punching bag.

He does provide a foe who's not a robot for Sonic to beat up.

Also, I found this video on the topic of humans in the Sonic franchise.

I do agree that even if it took a while, Sonic 06 is likely the reason they cut humans. That game is such a massive black mark on the franchise that it feels like it shapes a lot things about the future of Sonic. I also agree that they overcompensated. They didn't really learn anything from the mistake of the game. They just decided to pretend it never happened at all (which is easy since it kinda didn't).

I will counter that outside of Eggman (and his immediate family), humans haven't really been all that important. Our boy Robotnik is the only reoccurring human. The rest of them are background characters or one-shots, so that could also justify it, but considering how tightly Sega is gripping and dictating things in the franchise, I'd say it's just them overcompensating.

Well that explains why Silver pulled a Rachel Summers at least.

Well Eggman could just be being over dramatic.

The D6 stuck around for the same reason Silver stuck around post-06. They already made the character and had plans for them, reception be damned. So they appear in everything. There are just less Sonic games in general now, so we've only gotten three playable Zavok appearances, though.

Yeah, but Silver's character was actually decent after '06, even if he is still just a worse Future Trunks.

The Deadly Six have gotten NOTHING to make them better, and them appearing constantly is a very unpopular decision. And especially when another villain group (the Hard-Boiled Heavies) are far more popular then them.

Doesn't help that Zavok got a boss fight over Chaos and Shadow in Forces, making people hate him even more.

Think the hard boiled heavies may show up since they actually are popular?

Ya know just saying, the fact Silver stays behind winds up making him more X-Men’s Rachel Summers cause she did stay behind to permanently live in the past unlike Future Trunks.

No because Sega is insisting on seperating Classic and Modern.

So we won't ever see them with Modern Sonic characters.

And Silver doesn't stay behind, he always goes back to the future after he's done. As well, he's apparently immune to the changes in the timestream, considering he's never affected by forgeting anything outside of '06, which only two characters remember anyways.

yeah the prequel comic for Forces shows him going back to the present.

And this is what annoys me about future characters.

Just have them live in the past if your gonna keep using them.

Huh. So outside of 06, Silver always remembers changes to the future.
