Do we have any statements from Sonic Team with how they feel about the series?
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!If I could have one Sonic spin-off, it'd be an RPG that doesn't rely on a poorly designed Action Commands mechanic, doesn't have enemies become immune to dying every so often, doesn't make running from battles a chore, has decent music, and doesn't end on a cliffhanger.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Honest ones or ones with the metaphorical gun held to their head?
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Like, anything. Because I think we've all at some point said "Sonic Team is a mess" but we're always basing that off how we feel about each game and the direction it's gone in, so there's no real correlation.
I've not heard of any significant firings or fallouts, or any sexual harassment or assault charges. For all we know it's still a group of people passionate about the franchise being hamstrung by deadlines and mandates.
The metaphorical gun can't stay loaded forever. You'd think by now someone would have spoken up about Sonic Team's working conditions/atmosphere being awful.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!They're Japanese. Barring absolutely decrepit conditions ala those allegedly found at Konami, we wouldn't hear about it.
Yeah, good or bad, it's Japan. There's no way we'd know. Either way, I'd be up for another stab at an RPG. this time not halfassed by Bioware thanks.
"No will to break."Its surprising to me that a company that technically owns Phantasy Star and Shin Megami Tensei/Persona somehow can't get an actual mainline Sonic RPG going. Beyond gameplay mechanics to incorporate, its an easy place to dump all the character and story points they don't feel like doing anything with in the main games. Forget how specifically they're utilized, there'd be loads of people thrilled that the likes of Blaze or Omega are actually getting something to do beyond racing cars.

Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...After the failure of Chronicles, another Sonic RPG is about as likely as Half-Life 3.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."Sonic Chronicles wasn't bad all things considered, just really really bland.
Wouldn't mind another Sonic RPG if they made interesting
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.It still wasn't looked on fondly, which is all that matters to Sonic Team
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."I don't care what they think, I care about what I think :V
I don't think Chronicles had any advertising to it either iirc
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Chronicles probably would have been fine if Sega had let the game finish development before they released it. Like, every area map song in the game is a cheap midi file of a song from another game. It's all placeholder stuff that sounds bad and was clearly meant to be replaced down the line, but they never got that far. The song for the the Nocturne is the final boss theme from Sonic 3, but the placeholder they stuck in the game during development was an ear-splitting nightmare. If they had been given enough time to replace the music that could have been a great song, but it wasn't meant to be. Also, I'm not sure the fact that the game wasn't well received is as big a deterrent as the fact that the game brought about that lawsuit.
I'm probably wrong but didn't EA buying out Bioware lead to Chronicles, basically being rushed out as is even though it was uncompleted? That's the story I heard at least.
Frankly, none of this matters. Sega's way of dealing with poor mechanics/writing/gameplay/what-have-you is not to try it again but better, work out what went wrong, but to throw the baby out with the bathwater and never look back.
We ain't gettin' a second Sonic RPG.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."Yeah, but that doesn't lead to fun discussion. :U
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Man, don't even remind me of Phantasy Star. There's not been a core, single-player JRPG from that franchise since 4. But I mean, we're getting a new Sakura Wars, so I guess anything's possible.
"No will to break."The amount of references in that Sonic-OK KO crossover. Damn. They even looked back at the Sonic OVA.
- Huh. I'm enjoying all of the visual nods like Sonic in the beach chair and Metal T-KO saying There Can Be Only One. Maybe I'll check out the rest of the-
- OK-KO has been cancelled after it's third season.
- o_o
Games take longer to produce nowadays, but maybe Sonic Team should let other companies make Sonic titles. The PS 4-Xbox-U gen is almost over and we have less than 5 main titles.
The creator got to know ahead of time enough to make the finale episode at least. It's worth watching.
"No will to break."Just chiming in to say that chronicles had advertisement. I clearly remember seeing tv ads for the game back in my childhood.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."You know what game does Amy Rose really well? Sega Heroes. Story is minimal (Not nonexistent, just minimal) but she's basically the one that gets the team off the ground.
Bleye knows Sabers.Anything else?
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.A fun comic I made for fans of Sonic, Mario, and their movie counterparts. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/beK4nZU59YU
I had a dream where Big the Cat had a spearfishing option. XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.
I’m suprised we haven’t gotten more spin offs recently. Like if nothing else Sega has finally slowed down on there needing to be a major release every single year, but not counting mobile games we still get the same Olympic Game every couple years with the odd racing game thrown in.
I think we’ll at least get a TSR sequel at somepoint (mainly just because Dodon-Pa was specifically designed as “future proofing” so they’ll always have an easy device to set up a racing game which implies they want to do more), but it’d be nice to get another party game or RPG or, something.
They could even outsource them! Like I think a LOT of the Modern games’ problems would be fixed if Sonic Team just had to make a main game every like, 3 or 4 years and the rest of the series’ games were done by other teams (Christian Whitehead’s new studio, Sumo Digital, etc.)
Like if nothing else it’d give them the chance to finally work on something else and help with ST’s obvious burnout.
