It really isn't. The story treats itself as a complete joke, and it almost constantly undermines any sense of drama with poor attempts at humor at the worst possible time.

Boom Knuckles is the funniest version of Knuckles, don't care what anyone says.

He's what you'd call a bad idea used well.

He still thought he was doing his duty, though. He may have been gullible in SA1 but he wasn't some dimwitted hothead as later portrayals of him are criticized as being. He thought Sonic was keeping emerald shards from him, so he demanded them back so he could restore the ME. Besides, Sonic and Knuckles both got punked in that scene, let's be honest.

This also doesn't detract from how the entire game his only focus is putting the ME back together and Angel Island back in the sky, and he works his ass off to get those shards back.

I love Boom!Knuckles but can't see him used in the main continuity.

SA 1's Knuckles seems the best. He's cool and stoic. It's redundant with Shadow but I think that's the point: they're both foils to the enthusiastic and bombastic Sonic.

True, but if Knuckles had some common sense, he would have known Eggman was full of shit. You know how the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me".

Knuckles was completely at fault there. He had good intentions sure but...yea, he's kind of dumb lol.

This is also the fourth time in the franchise he's tricked (there's also Triple Trouble and Pocket Adventure), so the joke was tired at this point

Also since we're listing them, there's also Sonic Advance 2, where even Sonic's tired of Knuckles getting fooled

The point is that Knuckles isn't very bright and is easily manipulated due to naivete and a short temper.

He's not a bad person and tends to redeem himself...but yea, he's a meathead lol.

I went to buy Tales of Vesperia and my game store had a copy of Sonic 06 that I oought for some reason.

Perhaps, but Boom takes that Up To An Eleven and runs with it. It works with Boom because it's a 15-minute cartoon with Negative Continuity and a comedic focus, but in the main series that sort of character would get irritating fast.

Yea...that's kind of the point. Boom's a slice of life comedy, so more comedic characterizations work there.

Games are more action adventure, so an incompetent dumbass is a liability.

I'd agree that Boom Knuckles is a really bad idea that exaggerates perceived traits of the character to the point where he doesn't actually resemble the character any more, and of all the Boom characterizations he's the one that absolutely shouldn't ever make the jump to the main series (Boom Amy, on the other hand...)

I'd also agree that, eventually, he becomes funny. He really starts to make up for the ridiculousness of his concept in the second season, where the gags surrounding him become a bit more witty.

Eh, Boom!Knuckles isn't that different from his main self. Certainly exaggerated to the extreme, but they are traits present.

Boom Knuckles is a prime example of Flanderization and how that's not always a bad thing as he's one of the funniest characters on the show.

Boom!Amy...hmm, kind of ambivalent but people seem to swear she's superior to her main self.

I guess being a naggy feminist-like is better than crushing Sonic with her bear love.

Also fake compassion instead of genuine compassion.

Also being gullible doesn't mean that he isn't smart, it means that he is naive.

It's always bugged me the way they flanderized Knuckles, starting with Adventure. They turned him into a gullible meat-head, a stark contrast to the guy who was constantly setting traps for you all over his island. And because Eggman tricked him one time they made him into a character who falls for all of Eggman's tricks, even though he should definitely know better by now.

Traps all over "his" island.

People should start stressing that part more, since it's the only time his "cunning" matters.

Starting with Adventure, no, it started with Sonic Triple Trouble.

Though meat-head isn't accurate to anything outside of Boom.

The fans that go nuts over Knuckles' characterization I find to be far more annoying than anything the games or Boom ever did. Mainly because he was the first big rival character and people got attached to that.

I mean, Adventure had him as serious and a temper, but in his first game he was a Loony Tunes-esque trickster who showed up to hip hop beats, set up a trap, and laughed his ass off. at Sonic and Tails' misfortunes.

Also the guy that can some how knock out Super Sonic in one back-handed punch and snag the Emeralds while Sonic just stands there.

A lot of people grew up with Knuckles, so its only natural they'd grow attached to him.

If anything, there are so many interpretations of him that nobody can tell me who he is. You can get three different versions of Knuckles depending on when the person you asked grew up.

He definitely gets hit the most in terms of inconsistent writing tho.

Like:

• Sonic 3 - an obstacle and eventual ally
• Sonic Adventure - a guy protecting his jewelry
• Sonic Heroes/Riders - ditches his jewelery to hang out with Sonic and helps out when Eggman causes trouble
• Sonic Forces - resistance leader?
• Boom - feminist

You'd think Knuckles would ask Tails to make him a barrier for the Master Emerald precisely so he could treasure hunt, see the world, and help fight evil in the intern.
