Booth babes for a Sonic game.
This is a first for me.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Seems like a natural step after that thing with Hooters last year.

Get a load of this.
One joke can cause so much trauma.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Did Sonic X ever explain Shadow's creation? If humans live on a separate planet/in a different universe from Sonic's kind, then where did Gerald get the bright idea to make an anthropomorphic hedgehog that just so happens to look so much like Sonic's species?
Sonic X in general is just weird. Mostly because it follows all the stock Japanese kids anime plots in its episodes when it's not shoving Chris in a useless role or adapting one of the games, or shoving Chris in a useless role to adapt one of the games.
"No will to break."There was an episode where Eggman convinced everyone to play baseball. Freaking. Baseball.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!To be fair, baseball episodes make everything better.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I know it follows his game origin but I thought maybe there was a throwaway line explaining how Shadow works when Sonic's World and Earth are two separate things. There was a line about Eggman being from Earth in X, but they never revealed how he ended up on Sonic's World.
Maybe it's an Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole. Adventure 2 goes with Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My! (I'm still not buying the "They had the split planned since Adventure" quote) while X does not.
It seems like a pretty large thing to miss though. Shadow is obviously not a human.

Hell, why is Shadow a hedgehog in the actual games? Gerald could have made his ultimate life form any animal he wanted, so why a hedgehog?
I don't know if this is canon or just a fan theory, but it's because he went to Angel Island and saw the mural of Super Sonic.
Because hedgehogs are cool.
Somebody once told me the world was macaroni, I took a bite out of a treeThere's a lot to support that idea, he directly copied the layout of the Master Emerald Shrine and has robots shaped like Chaos.
"No will to break."But doesn't that mural depict the golden hedgehog fighting the guy with the mustache? Like, if you have an epic mustache and look just like the guy in the mural, do you really want to make a hedgehog when the mural depicts a hedgehog fighting you?

You know come to think of it, Rise of Lyric had Sonic as part of some "ancient mural" as well.
It'd be cool if Boom had followed up on the idea of Sonic being part of some kind of ancient prophecy.
But, no.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!There's always the comics.
I see the "Shadow is based off the mural" mentioned a lot. It'd be interesting to see that confirmed when the series eventually goes back to more serious stories (I can't see this light-on-plot trend lasting forever, especially with the backlash it's had).
I need to reread Sonic the Comic – Online! but from what I remember they just completely redid Shadow's backstory to fit a World of Funny Animals. He's a robot, no Maria or ARK needed. It's not the most amazing change but at least it's an attempt at rearranging his backstory. It works better than Forces and Xs "Shadow exists just because".
I don't know if Sega gives them enough wiggle room to canonize the theory in the new comics.

I meant more that if you want a good, serious (in the sense that the story is sincere, not grim) story you're more likely to get it from the IDW series than any actual game.
But then I like the goofy Saturday morning cartoon feel Unleashed and Colors had.
Unleashed felt pretty serious to me. It's no Adventure 2 but it has some weight to it.
Takeshi Iizuka talks about Team Sonic Racing at Tokyo Game Show 2018!
And yes, you can hear Shadow saying "Deal with it, Sonic!"
