Honestly this is like red sirens going off in my head
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniI'm suspicious of Sumo Digital in general after what they did with LittleBigPlanet The third game was horrendously buggy, including at least one game-breaking glitch that may or may not have ever been fixed, and was obviously unfinished on top of that.
Was it already known that they were involved with this game, or is this new information?
Edit: Never mind - sounds like they've worked with Sega a lot with these types of games and done just fine. I missed the point entirely. Ignore me.

It's probably something to do with DLC. The main game releases in a month, so it's very unlikely this has anything to do with it.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It's been pushed back to May
Even so, that's still not enough time to do anything major with the base game. This most likely is something DLC-related, if it's anything to do with Team Sonic Racing at all.
Is it just me, or do a lot of people seem very pessimistic about this game? I don't get it. All-Stars Racing and Transformed were fantastic games, but I've seen a lot of people acting like this game's just doomed to fail for some reason.
Yes.
I don't think there's any sudden surge of people willing to be pessimistic about Sonic, nor are those people entirely wrong for being that way. Sonic isn't a franchise that's only recently faced criticism. It has a amount of Unpleasable Fanbase, Artistic License, Negative Continuity, and Development Hell problems in general.
This franchise has a Broken Base. I like to joke about the cycle this thread goes through every couple of months. Someone will point out the latest bit of news and express their discontent with it, and someone will launch on a rant about why Sonic games are bad and propose their halfway solution to Sega's woes, and somewhere down the line someone will claim that SEGA needs to stop listening to the fans. We do this quite a lot and we're civil. I can imagine it's much more frequent on other forums.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!My personal problems with it, though?
- Racing games are hard to get excited about to begin with when they lack an interesting gimmick or a plot, unless it's Mario Kart
- Transformed outright looked better than TSR
- Reducing a "SEGA All-Stars" game to "Sonic and friends" is a questionable move
- Still don't care for racing games where Sonic drives a car and no "Sonic wants to play fair" nonsense can convince me otherwise
- They're not even attempting to be creative with it - give Sonic a hoverboard, Shadow a bike, Tails a car like the Tornado, put the Master Emerald in Knuckles' car, etc
- Yes, Sonic did use an Extreme Gear in Riders - because he was entering a contest specifically for people that used them, and because hoverboards are freaking cool
- it's not Sonic Mania 2 or Sonic Adventure 3
I say they should have just stuck with Riders. That would have been an easy counterpart to Mario Kart. Instead they're going back to cars because... cars are cool I guess?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Eh. I did not get much enjoyment out of the first Riders. I dunno if Zero Gravity improved on anything, but Free Riders was DOA.
Free Riders was doomed because it was on the kinect. Zero Gravity was at least pretty fun, but needed more tracks.
I don't really care for the rider series, maybe because i'm a noob
I always preferred the all star racing series (more the first game rather than the sequel)
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"Riders was a great racing game and one that fit Sonic's world pretty well, thematically speaking. Sci-fi skateboarding races? Yes please!
While I have only minor doubts about TSR's success, I think it would've been a much better fit to take the concept of Riders, and refine that some more.
I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniFunny enough, there have been times where I wondered what a brand-new Sonic Riders would be like. I'd have it either take a "back-to-basics" approach or start completely from scratch to see what works and what doesn’t work.
If they start from scratch, they’d probably need a developer that’s got experience in racing games...
(And also all of the Chaotix. Not just Vector.)
Man, Team Rose really can't keep a consistent lineup.
"No will to break."I always answered the "Why is Sonic in a car?" answer with "Maybe he just likes cars". I would like to see another Riders though. Kart racers besides Mario Kart tend to be seen as just cheap gifts, but boarding games are not something you see everyday (plus the outfits were so nice).
Plus the comics already explained why he uses a car, there would be no race otherwise
Honestly? At this point I wish a racing game where they included Sonic running on foot as an unlockable character...he's the instant win character that wins the race the second it starts
That way people will get through their heads why he uses vehicles in racing games
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"While I admit I never got past the second level with Tails in that bullsh-t jungle level in the first Rider, I did enjoy the heck out of Zero Gravity. Maybe just because I went all-in and finished the Mission Mode in that game to get the Chaos Emerald Extreme Gear.
I never played Free Riders but everything I've seen of it on Youtube makes me agree that it was DOA. Feels like it probably killed the series, which is a shame.
It's also the only hoverboard, sci-fi racing game that I know of!

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!If I recall correctly to beat that level to had to touch the fly rings or whatever you can call those to get yourself flying. Fly type racers were actually kind of OP in some races (although speed types could keep up with them).
I was no good at it and it's literally the reason I stopped playing the game. >:<
Tails cannot keep up with anybody in that race and I guess those Flight Rings were necessary. I don't think I was particularly bad at the game, but that race is still That One Level for me.
Zero Gravity I did just fine with. Even went some races without gravity-drift/shifting just to make it fair for the AI. Super Sonic was just me being a jerk.
Weird because I prefer the Air Gauge to the Gravity Shift one, or whatever it was call. I like the idea of managing "air" to "manipulating gravity" but I hated Riders and loved Zero Gravity.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!My personal headcanon for Vector being in Team Rose in Sonic Free Riders was that Big was too heavy to use any of the Extreme Gears and Amy had to improvise with the second-biggest guy she knew: Vector.
Meanwhile, to explain why Cream isn't in Team Rose in Team Sonic Racing, I headcanon'd that she was either too young to drive or came down with a fever. And the only reason the Chao brigade got in is because there was nothing in the rulebook that said Chao couldn't drive.
Doesn't Kirby: Air Ride count as a hoverboard, sci-fi racing game?
Then there's Sonic Runners were Blaze is part of team rose like the dozen of fan works out there
Team Rose at this point is any group with Amy as the leader
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"I figure Cream has been recast into another role in Sonic Team Racing, which is why she isn't playable. Like, maybe she got kidnapped in the game's plot (if it has one) or something, or she's now the host of the game's menus, etc.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. She'll join the flag-waving squad with poor Ristar.
"No will to break."I'd not be surprised if she's just waving flags this time around; Sega seems to have forgotten that she kicked all kinds of ass when she was actually playable.
Some fans are still doing Cream speedruns of Advance 2.
"No will to break."
Like, I Don't see what would change if that was the case, they just aren't there to cheer Shadow up
Like maybe Shadow is angrier, but honestly he doesn't seem to be particularly attached to them for that to be the case, (I think it takes until next gen for him to consider them friends)
He maybe feels bad because he feels it's his fault, but that's about it
¡PONLE QUE DIGA!:"¡HUMONGOSAURIO HASTA LA MUERTE!"
