I'm pretty sure it's on at least one other trope page already.

Where? It's not on this one, you were there when it didn't get put onto Mask of Power, and I can't think of any other relevant tropes for it.

Admittedly, I've never played that Zelda game, but there's nothing about it that seems very cool to me. It's just plain ugly.

Yeah, the problem here is that the trope is subjective.

Isn't the trope actually about masked characters being really powerful and possibly cool?

-rereads the trope-

Apparently.

...so why the hell is it called Cool Mask if it isn't about masks that are cool?!

Idunno. It was called Mask Power, but that's been relegated to a redirect.

I think perhaps Masked Power would be best, to distinguish it from Mask of Power.

Should we take this over to the TRS?

I'm not a fan of the Zelda one because it just looks like part of a costume. It would be similar to saying batmans mask is a cool one.

Isn't the trope actually about masked characters being really powerful and possibly cool?

Isn't that what Meta Knight is? At any rate, I fail to see a good reason why the current image "doesn't quite fit" the trope based on the objections made at it, or lack thereof.

For me, the Meta Knight image captures the trope better than the other suggestions. He's pretty much a Masked Guy iconified, and the character himself fits the trope.

[up] True. grin

Other Masks I can think of that are iconic like The Phantom of the Opera or The Man in the Iron Mask aren't really Cool Masks as described in the trope. Doctor Doom (like in this image) might work as an alternative - but I still prefer Meta Knight.

The not human thing is a big strike on Meta Knight how do we know it not just part of his face? (From the picture)

The Zechs one its very clear that its a mask, the Victorian style officers uniform is very clear that he holds power, + the sword and then there is the Mech with the big ass Dobergun (seriously that's the guns name)

Yeah. We can't see what's behind Meta Knight's mask, so how is anyone looking at the picture without prior knowledge of the character suppose to know that he can even take it off? I vote for Zechs and the Talgeese.

That doesn't put much emphasis on the mask, the way I see it.

But the rest of the setup is perfect. He does look like he's boss.

Might as well end up in a crowner. What about V?
