This is not a thread for bashing on religion. The forum rules on civility and complaining still apply.
This thread is meant to be a welcoming and inviting place for Atheists, Antitheists, and Agnoists to talk about their beliefs and experiences.

Fair enough 'n' agreed.
Been approached by a Hare Krishna and some Mormons today and don't know why I even bothered being courteous. Normally I just pass by.
I tried recommending some other reading, some of it Hindu-influenced, to a Hare Krishna in the name of Jnana Yoga. Don't know if I got through, maybe not, but I can't know really. Didn't buy anything from him, though, or take an invitation card to the bhakti yoga lecture. He didn't seem to have a problem with me mentioning other gurus or Hindu writers.
The Mormon girls were annoying. Let me wait my bus in peace. That "How's it going?" is obviously a lure. My, felt exploited before anything else was even said. How nice. I didn't wait for long and the traffic drowned out much anyways (good). They just didn't know how they're different from jehovah's witnesses besides one of them knowing their views of salvation are different (and the other one just didn't know period). Look, disbelieve me if you like, but at least I got to ask. Maybe some other Mormons do better? I've read many different religious views anyways, so maybe I'm ripe for being brainwashed into TM which I've personally tried without any instruction, so there's that....
I have not been approached by any missionaries for many years. Like yours they hung out at bus or train stations. I just took a pamphlet from the Mormons and got on the train. With the Jehovah's Witness I tried talking. She didn't answer. Oh well. I've learned so much since then anyway. Assuming it ever happens again maybe I'll try a discussion.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.-Philip K. DickIf it's even worth it.
I've never talked to any TM-practicioner, only read some random internet comments pro, anti, neutral, mixed, tried it myself at times. If I've had a shitty day, repeating some mantra amongst other thoughts and letting it dictate its own course (as opposed to more actively repeating a mantra like I take it other mantra meditation's supposed to be?) has helped me feel better and so has the more standard (?) mantra repetition.
I'm suspicious of the potential fraudulent capacity of religious movements (yeah no kidding), so there ought not to be any too compelling a reason for me to enter any such organization.
I think religious and quasi-religious (?) practices are better off private.
It won't happen with the ones whose tenets require seeking converts. Besides, we act on our views-so do they. There are plenty of bad nonreligious movements too even if they kept it private I really doubt this would help much.

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.-Philip K. DickIn my country, Jehovah's Witnesses just stand quietly in front of magazine stands. Which led to the incredibly awkward moment when I picked one up, thinking it was about the future of the universe and then said out loud: "Oh, it's just about Christianity".
Life is unfair...It's the Mormons that come bothering when you're waiting for a bus. At least briskly walking by and ignoring their greetings works when on foot.
New Pew Research religious study out. What I love about these annual publications is the detail in them, you can see just exactly how every group's views have shifted over the years. Spoiler alert, it has moved towards irreligion, which the US could benefit a bit from.
Life is unfair...I borrowed a book from a buddy. It's Atheist Answers by David McAfee.
Like how he says why bother worshipping something that doesn't want to be found.
Oh hey I'm an atheist. I don't believe god exists.
And that's all I have to say on the matter.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Hello there.
I have to said, being atheist kinda is liberating in the sense I read diferent religion to see what it have to offer in a intelectual level.
Like im reading about satanism and aside of some pretiousness and elitism is pretty intersting in general.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I think that's mostly there to troll christians.
So my college's chapter of Cru is getting creative with their tactics to get people to join. A couple of weeks ago they had a thing outside the university union where if you took a survey you could get a free muffin (spoiler alert: It was so they could talk to you about Jesus in exchange for a muffin you could literally get from a vending machine). No real indication that this was a religious thing expect for maybe a small sign most people would miss. A couple of days ago on my way to the cafeteria I passed by them doing an event called "speed friending" that was basically musical chairs but for meeting people (thankfully 6 feet apart). Again, no indication (other than a few signs most people would miss) that this was a religious thing. Sneaky, sneaky.

Hey how you doing well I'm doing just fine I lied I'm dying insideHi! I'm an atheist. I don't really have anything else to say about my atheism right now, I just thought I should post here to note that.
Ah, indeed. I've encountered those things before. I usually take the free costco/vending machine muffin and pretend to be interested while they talk if I have nothing else to do, but they really should be more up front about the fact that they're bribing you with vending machine muffins so you'll stand there and listen to them tell you about why their way of thinking about things will improve your life. It's kind of like those timeshare pitch things, where you get free stuff if you spend an hour listening to someone trying to sell you something, except they're even less upfront about what they're selling you while they lure you in with the promise of free muffins.
I am an atheist, and I outgrew the militant edgelord atheist mindset years ago. I despise the Hollywood Atheist trope so fucking much but I also dislike people who fashion themselves after it.
I simply do not believe in God. It's like... it's so simple. I am just annoyed when some religious people try to think atheism is a religion when it's simply absence of it.

Oh, you'd be fine. He doesn't do shit these days.
Hi, I'm an agnostic who's functionally an atheist. I don't know whether God exists, but in the absence of evidence supporting His existence, I act as if He doesn't.
Trimming the hedges, one trope at a time.Oh hey, this thread is active again after being dormant for so long.
I guess since there isn't a mythology behind irreligiosity, there just isn't as much to discuss as with other religions...
Life is unfair...Yeah we're kinda just getting
"I'm an atheist"
"Yeah me too"
"Same"
Despite being atheistic, I have a tendency to say "oh my god" or "holy shit". Guess it's just some exclamation habit you say without any meaning? I am not covertly religious or in denial, I truly am genuinely atheistic.
I've been trying to substitute it with "oh my voids!" recently.
I usually replace it with "fuck".
But I wouldn't worry. I've been a atheist my whole life and I still say stuff like that sometimes.
I think that exclamations like "oh my god" or "bless you" have become so common that they now have little to no religious meaning anymore. Kind of like Christmas evolving from a religious holiday to a commercial one. God has been commodified, so to speak.
Trimming the hedges, one trope at a time.
Religion has done good shit.
Religion has done bad shit.
Personally, all I really care about is whether it's true.
