...Yeah, that's how modern magecraft works. Background mana field and stuff. And while I figure "no, it could be different in other worlds", I also figure "it should work more often than not because said field is already thin as hell in the 21st century". We're moving into an age of science yet magic's still up and about.
Mm... oh! Yeah, that reminds me. Sayaka's new legs - to replace the ones that got, ahem, pilfered - operate on something similar. Once she's synced up, they can draw mana from the air, but if that source can't be accessed or if she needs to exert a lot more energy, then it'll draw from her Soul Gem. Which, again, should only consume as much as she would normally spend on walking.
Really, it's meant to be more dextrous. And stronger. Something to help her get back on her feet as a swordsman - like, my host remembers her being pretty good. And it's a shame if her not having real legs got in the way of that, y'know?
