Why is tea so commonly served as a welcoming beverage?

I think it's just something that was considered polite manners to do in high society, then the middle class while pretending to be high society adopted it, and because it was the sign of having class, everyone else steadily adopted it more and more...
Until everyone and their granny drinks tea.
Why tea? Eh- probably because it's more commonly found than Coffee I guess?
There's a load of different kinds of tea, and not that many coffees.
And it's more widespread across the world, I think...
At least, that's what I think is the answer...
To be honest, I haven't gone on Sophopedia in ages.
