...
(Blink looks down at the gleam of the Master Sword.)
("Too many ruins.")
>("Quiet.")
("I was asleep, so...")
(It was both a good and bad kind of quiet. 100 years after the Great Calamity, most of Hyrule was reclaimed by the wild. And the wild could look very idyllic - almost as if Ganon had never touched it. Definitely worth a picture or two!)
(But if you looked closer, this was a wilderness that was too difficult for people to reclaim. Blink had been to more town ruins than actual towns, populated by monsters rather than people. Traders were still out and about, but it was a dangerous venture. And at the worst spots were pools of Malice... physical signs of Ganon's taint, even through the seal placed on him.)
"...Hm."
He straightens his posture.
"I've only heard stories about the years directly after the Great Calamity. A historian I know has tried to piece things together, but the most she has to go off of are transaction sheets from merchants, like the ones you mentioned. And even those are rare. Even with the old states — like Zora's Domain and others — we can barely find any records that date before the provisional republic."
dead devotion(hammers and coals and tongs, oh my...!)
...
(Basically... Blink was at ground zero of the Great Calamity. He fled with the Queen - then Princess Zelda - to Fort Hateno, pursued by hundreds of Guardians. He and what remained of the Royal Guard did their best... but their best wasn't enough. And they died.)
(...But his death was enough to awaken Zelda's divine power. And with that power, she could hear the spirit of the Master Sword, who knew of an ancient Sheikah chamber that could revive the dead. It took 100 years, and brought him back in a weakened, amnesiac state... but he returned.)

Hmm...
(Blink looks down at the shine of the Master Sword once more.)
("Doesn't the hero reincarnate?")
>("Maybe that's the nail.")
(Maybe the Shrine of Resurrection broke down. Maybe Zelda's power failed to activate. Maybe Blink's body was too damaged by a Guardian's beam to revive, or the Master Sword was lost in the struggle. Maybe Calamity Ganon awakened a month too early or too late, changing events as drastically as the Hero of Time did... or maybe the ancient Sheikah never built the Shrine of Resurrection in the first place.)
(But whatever happened in Redlink's world, it was definitely caused by Blink's failure to revive.)
(you know how they say that metal sings when you hammer it?)
(well... you can sorta hear that)
(except instead of singing it's screaming, and instead of metal it's Muramasa running at you from behind)
KISAMAAAAAAAA
Mm...
(Blink ain't saying that it's his fault. In fact, his resurrection was practically out of his control - he didn't know what the Shrine of Resurrection was until it got marked on his Sheikah Slate's map.)
(...And by then the only other things he knew were his name and the fact that he needed pants.)
What's the hammering away at my forge for?
(Blink nods, looking down at the Master Sword... before nodding at the polishing job he's done.)
Yosh...
(He sheathes the sword in that iconic gilded sheath on his back, standing up as well, before inquiring...)
>("Where's the Master Sword?")
Yeah, and the way you're forging that shit is gonna make the whole thing break down! Like, yeesh...

>("Well...")
(To Blink, it's a force of habit. Before he got the sword back, he resorted to more mundane weapons - and since most of them were salvaged from Moblin camps and the like, they weren't cared for very well, and would get bent or chipped irreparably if he didn't take care of them.)
