-An invisible line has been crossed-
-Quietly finishes his tea. Removes his glasses, folds them neatly, and places them in his pocket. Gets up, goes into the kitchen, rinses out the cup, and places the glass in the sink, all in silence-
-Comes back and sits down on the sofa-
...I haven't learned my lesson, you say?
Warning! Angry, bitter, fatalist rant incoming.

MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon Alchemist"Learned my lesson"? What are you, my mother? No, she burned to death. And since that day, I've had to deal with this little Legion in my head telling me to wipe out humanity, because I was so much of an idiot that I bought into my stupid best friend's "happy endings and heroes" bullshit. And look where it got him. Look where it got my son! Look around, see where it got anyone! If there is one lesson all the centuries and millenia and aeons of complete and utter shit have taught me, it's that life is cheap. Honour is cheaper still. And when it comes down to looking out for number one, our pathetic monkey brains can't handle being isolated, so we expand it out to a select few that we depend on in some twisted way, where we depend on being depended upon. Every time someone tells you what you'e fighting for, because your monkey group needs you, "They need you, Cloud! They need you, Tony!" ...then you can look them in the eye and tell them, "No. They don't."
...Because when it gets right down to it, everyone is pathetically fucking expendable.
Challenge mode: Cloud inadvertently revealed why he is so pissed off. Can you spot it?
MY SOUL IS DARK BUT MY HAIR IS COLORFUL — Brahian Pokémon AlchemistVery, very close, all of you, but no cigar. It's sort of a combination. He's mad because after all that effort he expended because he believed that his family needed him, he finds that not only did his absence not make a bit of difference at home, but that they actually were better off without him. He has this weird dependency thing, yes, where he needs to have someone to rely on him, instead of the other way around, and he just had that punched in the face and spat on with the Jareth/suicide combo thing.
You'd think there'd be more to it, wouldn't you?
I'm old, Mr. Stark. I don't look it, but I am. And dear god, do I feel old...
And I'm tired.
Actually, that was the main theme of FFVII. Granted, it wasn't delivered quite as angrily, but they did have the "everyone dies as a chump" thing going.
