Well, it was.
We were a secret society, after all.
I only stayed because I knew that I was safe among them.
Staying with them had less chances of me being discovered.
I could actually live in peace, save for a few requests here and there.
I couldn't be a surgeon, I had to live in near-isolation, away from society but...
At that point, it was preferable than to be a killer on the loose, or a killer in jail.
Of course, it is because of that same society, that I was led into a path where we were opposed, you and I.
One of the newer members, some jumped up asshole with a face that didn't survive an explosion graciously- wanted me to kill The Third Invisible Man.
It was called in as a favour- one that I wasn't allowed to ignore, or well- risk banishment or death. Both of those weren't good options.
Between killing the descendant of a good friend, who seemed poised to uncover and thus destroy the society, and myself dying and being banished... the former was more attractive.
Of course failing in the attempt and my identity becoming known to him, led to the collapse of the society anyhow. The connections were made by my involvement, and by clues unrelated to myself.
