...Launching it traditionally might draw unnecessary attention to it. Having it brought in manually eliminates the chance of further intervention.
That doesn't solve the problem of what'll happen if this Cudgeon figures out that we know about the bomb and attempt an assault to keep us busy until it's ready to fire.

"We all fail. We all make mistakes. That is what makes us human.""Uh...thanks..."
"...I'll see if I can talk to someone to delay anything like that. I've got a friend in the Retrieval squad. And Foaly might be able to, but Cudgeon's watching him like a hawk."
"Naturally they won't let you near it, Mr. Strife...but another fairy?"
-Artemis picks up an LEP helmet and holds it near his own head-
"'They' might have a better chance."

"Yeah, it really is..."
"Captain Short is a grunt."
"Hey!"
"Good with a gun, but terrible with machinery."
"Standing right here!"
"I am aware. Naturally, someone with technological prowess is needed to disarm the bomb. Someone who can pass for a fairy. The only two candidates I can think of are Mr. Strife in his current state, and myself. As we both lack pointed ears, we would have to be wearing one of these helmets."

"True but if I were a betting man, I'd say they won't risk firing it from too far given this place's dimensional instability. Best to keep things uncomplicated."
"...I hate to admit it, but he's right. Foaly's enough of a nerd to take that into consideration."
