The beings tasked with enacting punishment upon the souls of the wicked were shown to be far more insidious than anyone possibly had imagined, and as they showed more and more that they were unconcerned with justice, morals, ethics of any kind... this idea of Hell eventually met its end, and it was colonized by a new group of people who wanted to go down a different path than the first inhabitants.
