I don't know if you'd know them as Romans though.
But- hey.
They're not quite important.
I used to be part- of a secret order. Known as the Aurelian Scholars.
We followed, and were to uphold- the tennants of the work of Aggripa- Chrysos Utopia or- Golden Society.
They were pacifists- our goals were to realize the nicest and best society that could be achieved, as set out as this- Golden Society.
Primarily through indirect means, such as small changes in laws, influence primarily- no violence, or force.
However- I, and a few others in the order- became... impatient- and decided that we would only see the Golden Society- if we acted upon it. To bring it upon through force- We split from the Scholars- and I formed the Knights of Aurelius.
We were militants, our goal- to bring forth the golden society by any means necessary.
Including conquest.
1.5 imperial gallons of tea were consumed during the writing of this post-nods- Especially when one of the key parts of the philosophy of all that we tried to preach- was the emphasis on pacifism.
But... it gets worse from there. We knew of the Latin Crusade- to conquer Alexandria- I suggested that we sign ourselves up as one of the orders- to have our own army to march with us, for we knew that Alexandria could be a good opportunity- if we were there- to set up a Golden Society, using the means of the Roman Emperor and his followers.
It would be a good plan- we disguised our intents, to be true Latinists- and some of us were followers of a kind. Like me.
But even so- we kept the Aurelian notion away from the knowledge of our fellow Crusaders.
If we were found out and deemed to be traitors, and the Golden Cross a sign of our heresy- I disguised my, and the other masters of the order's cloaks like this- -he waves his hand over the golden cross, turning it red, before back to gold again- Through magic.
But- regardless... we took upon this march- to take that city.
1.5 imperial gallons of tea were consumed during the writing of this postWell- assuming we took Alexandria, we were to ingratiate ourselves with the common folk, and try to keep our rebellion alive, I'd guess. We were- idealistic, to say the least.
Almost... blind.
But it got worse- for my army never marched on Alexandria.

...Heh, yes. The French martial art derived from military obstacle course training. Basically just a lot of running and jumping, with some other acrobatic trickery thrown in here and there. Hhh...
make it through this year if it kills you yet | 2001-2019On the way- I heard that Athens- a city in our path- was under the rule of a Tyrant.
Naturally, since it was but a city state- we diverted our path only slightly- to lead a campaign with my army to liberate Athens instead of Alexandria.
... It was a mistake to do that. What I thought would be an easy campaign turned out to be...
Grueling.
1.5 imperial gallons of tea were consumed during the writing of this postWhat I thought would take a month, turned into two. When I thought it'd only be a week until we were victorious- two weeks would pass by with nothing to show for it.
Athens held us in the countryside- their armies were resisting us, we who believed to be saving them from their tyrant- yet they withheld.
Standing against us.
When it came to the siege of Athens- they held. Stubborn. With no surrender.
When we finally got over their walls in an assault upon the city...
My men- destroyed in their morale- massacred the people of Athens in revenge.
They raised it to the ground.
The- image of that School of Athens is still in my mind...
And Athens... was the home of Aggripa all those years ago. We were- spitting upon his grave with our action... all whilst holding a banner- saying that we were following his memory and teachings.
We destroyed the birthplace of the Aurelian Scholars... all whilst holding the golden banner of Aurelius.
And that pacifist god I talked about... was the Mentor of Aggripa- and I knew- that I had made a grave mistake when I saw it burn.
Because they were- as Aggripa wrote- extremely good friends- he knew the Golden Mentor when he was a child- and he sourced his beliefs in the Golden Society- through talks with that mentor.

I'm not sure what you just said. But- when i was much younger- I was a believer in the Latinist Church of Emperors.
This is a Latin cross.
But- it's not quite to do with that. It's to do with what color it is. Gold.
And an old philosopher.
